As much as I like Downey, Law and Ritchie, I felt that most of the movie was an overblown testosterone CGI-off which dissipated the talents of all concerned. As an example, the totally absurd meeting and fight in the shipyard destroyed both the spirit of fun and the sense of danger that any Sherlock Holmes outing needs to keep the thoughtful viewer interested. I really really REALLY wanted to like it, but I don't. I wish that I had seen "Avatar" instead.

Sir Doyle might not recognize Sherlock or Watson, but this is fun. More James Bond than Sherlock, Doweny and Law have a great time and so will you. An excellent action movie, a little violent for kids, but very entertaining. Sequels are clearly intended and I can't wait for the next one.

I was truly expecting a wonderful movie. It was great, but not quite up to my expectations. Truthfully, I don't know if it would have been worth watching had Robert Downey, Jr. not been the star. But he was and he was fantastic as always.

I thought that this movie was excellent. Robert Downey and Jude Law were convincing as Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson. The chemistry between the two actors was terrific. There was a great plot line with plenty of action. The humor throughout the movie tended to break up the tension, and was greatly appreciated.

Excellent work by both Downey Jr (Holmes) and Law (Watson). This is star quality entertainment and they have earned every penny this movie will make. The action sequences are intense and the storyline infecting. Those who are avid book readers, though, should not seek it out, or thus be disappointed that it "does not follow." However, well done, old boys, well done, ole chap!

This was a really enjoyable movie. There were a number of fighting scenes, but not nearly as much or as graphic as many action movies. Years ago I read all four of the Sherlock Holmes novelettes and the 40 or so short stories. The movie took some liberties. Sherlock Holmes was a boxer, not a Kung Fu expert. I was glad to see the movie portrayed Watson as a doctor from the military, not a bumbling idiot like the old movies showed him. The two were great together.

It is often hard to find a movie that my husband and I will both enjoy, but this was it. We both loved it. There were several scenes that could have a minute or two chopped from them, but overall it was a great movie, with great acting, special effects and period settings.

Well the game may be afoot, but the movie is a bit of a snoozer. The cast of characters is strong enough and the story is very Sherlock Holmes-ish, so what's the problem? Could probably do without the weird special effects they interject sporadically to show what the character is going to do next, kinda matrix meets Sherlock Holmes, which didn't do it for me. They also could have shaved about 30 minutes off the movie and it would have been fine. Not terrible, but more potential than they carried through on.

I took my husband to see this movie and we both loved this movie, Robert Downey Jr is at his best, Rachael Adams is beautiful and Judd Law fantastic! it kepts us on our the edge of our seats while giving us some laughs too, can't wait to see it again

We went with a large group and everyone enjoyed the show. It is a bit different than Sherlock you expect, but we enjoyed the added twists. We hope they do another.

Very different from your typical Sherlock Holmes. Full of darkish humor. One of those rare movies were I could not figure out the ending ahead of time. Robert Downey Jr and Jude Law compliment each other very well in this film Will be buying the DVD when it comes out!

This was a different interpretation of the Sherlock Holmes character than I had envisioned while reading the books. However, I think it was very well done.
The cast's performance was excellent. The film managed to keep me intrigued and engaged in trying to pick up the clues.

This has a new dimension that can be built upon. It aliegns itself with the intrigue and adventure found in the original versions by Sir Arthur Conan Doyles writings. Can't hardly wait for the next instalment!

It's horribly inaccurate (the Thames was an open sewer you would never jump in and the houses of Parliment are nowhere near the Tower Bridge), Sir Arthur Conan Doyle must be spinning in his grave, and it felt like a CSI episode at times, but it was good fun to watch. What can I say, I don't have grand expectations from Guy Ritchie-at least it was entertaining

I was squirming in my seat halfway through the movie hoping it would be over soon. I mean it's Sherlock Holmes -- give me less of those overused stop-action scenes and more pithy dialogue. It felt like I was being forced to read a bad comic book. If you're an old-school Sherlock Holmes fan, you won't like this movie.

This is a pretty good action movie for many of the reasons that people have stated so far. If you suspend knowledge of the original source material, it was a fun ride. BUT, the clothing/sets seemed to say 1880's England, the time of the original stories, but there is a clear reference to the ongoing American Civil War being waged, and that was the 1860"s?? It sort of ruined it for me. Perhaps the screen writers' grasp of American history was a bit weak!

Was not worth the money to see it on the big screen. I'm a big fan of Downey and Law and would have liked to see a much better production done of this movie. My recommendation is to wait for to come out on DVD. Ironman Looks good though.

Pros: Scenes portraying Holme's logic and deduction techniques were very good. Robert Downey Jr. & Jude Law worked well together. Their banter was delightful! This Sherlock Holmes was truer to the real man and not the character most of us know from Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's stories. Cons: Dialog sometimes hard to hear/ understand. Storyline was jam-packed and full of complexity, making some parts difficult to follow easily. Other: Ending left wide open for a sequel. Overall: Charming and entertaining!

I found the movie fun and the special effects were very good. I did however find understanding what the characters said with the british accents difficult. Furthermore, the sequence of scenes was hard to follow...I'm glad that Holmes did the review at the end...which is the old "trade mark" of the Sherlock Holms I remember as a kid...just wish it moved a tad slower then it would be easier to follow.

I love Robert Downey Jr. & Jude Law and thought that this was pure entertainment. I am not big on special effects, and this one went a little overboard with it at times, I felt. If you are looking for mindless entertainment- what you'd expect for this type of film- then go and see it. It was fun to watch! That's all.
