'Sherlock Holmes' is a good example of why movies are in trouble today. Robert Downey, Jr. and Jude Law were great as usual, otherwise I would have rated the movie 1 star. First of all, it was a very boring movie. Everyone was dirty all the time. Sherlock Holmes was a super sleuth detective, but all the other stuff was silly.

Great period piece, Director Guy Ritchie did an excellent job of evoking Victorian London. Robert Downey Jr was fabulous as Holmes. The story had enough twists and turns to keep me interested. However, I would have enjoyed the movie more if there were less blood and guts.

Frankly, I did NOT need to, nor care to see a movie that had SO MANY Satanic outright tones and undertones in a movie - not ever, and NO LESS on Christmas Day - yea, sure, acting was fine - STORY LINE was rancid - I could care less that they 'explained' it all as trickery in the last two minutes. TOTAL THUMBS DOWN TOO BAD - it 'could' have been a good movie

I went to see this movie not expecting to enjoy. I was surprise and very pleased to be completely wrong about this movie. It was spectacular. The action scenes were great and the dialogue was excellent. The relationship between Holmes and Watson was well developed and their interactions incredibly funny at times. Great way to spend Christmas Day. The movie was far from disappointing.

Another great performance by Robert Downey Jr. and Jude Law is at it's best. Missed the Cap and Cape from original versions. Very good story with surprising ending. Go see it.

I should have went to see a Batman and Robin movie. Since when was Watson so athletic and mobile.
The director has attempted to create his own character and called him Sherlock. I wish they would have added a "WHAM" or a "POW" when Batman and Robin (Sherlock and Watson) were fighting the Joker (Blackwood).
This movie was awful. I could not hear the lines of the performers. Downey should receive an Academy for trying.

My family are Sherlock Holmes fans so we had low expectations of the film. We were impressed with Guy Ritchie's visual take on historical London. The cinematrography was awesome. It was an action packed interpretation of Holmes and Watson, and great fun! I loved the chemistry between Holmes and Watson. Robert Downey Jr. and Jude Law were excellent as well as Rachel McAdams.

First there was Basil Rathbone, starting in 1939, a classically trained actor - and he set the baseline for our perception of this great character. Then there was Jeremy Brett, with the Granada TV/PBS series in the 80's and 90's. He continued on this memorable, and quiky character. Now, we are treated again, to, while not a unknown actor, a great actor, nontheless. Guy Ritchie, Downey, and Law are just what is needed to transition a whole new generation to this everlasting character. btw. the Irish music /gypsy style arrangments in the new movie are fun and are blended wonderfully to the story.

I was very dissapointed in this movie. After seeing the trailer at other movies prior to Christmas, I thought it would be a great movie. The trailer was awesome....the story line was shallow and slow, the acting was just ok..wich is too bad..I like Robert Downing Jr's movies.I am even a fan of Guy Ritchi,, He just isnt a "blockbuster" director and it showed.

I agree - the chemistry between Robert Downey Jr, and Jude Law was great. Okay action. The plot could have been interesting but fell flat. I kept dozing off and it was not due to staying up late. Overall would recommend to wait for the DVD.

A fun & entertaining film. It did leave you hanging at the end with the introduction of "M" to lead into the next film, which was a little annoying, but you knew through the whole film that it was happening - that was a little distracting. The chemistry between Downey & Law was awesome. The chemistry between Downey & McAdams was ok, but not as good as between the other two. At times it was hard to understand some of what Downey was saying in his accent because he was speaking so fast. But it was an enjoyable movie and engaging.

Now I loved Snatch, but Ritchie has proved to me with this work that he indeed deserves to be in the big leagues. RDJ=Perfect per usual; no new news there. Not a fan of Jude Law, but he was wonderful. I had a great time; fast, smart and full of visual beauty. Great acting, terrific plot and a thinking man's movie. Great ride!

We were very much looking forward to this Sherlock, and the "just OK" movie was a big disappointment. Robert Downey Jr and Jude Law were both fine in their parts; they were the only strong parts of the movie. The story line was sophomoronic (yes, sophomoric AND moronic). The "think it through" device use to demonstrate analysis was mainly bothersome. The directing seemed to be driven by a desire to show off, rather than by telling a story, or anything at all resembling intelligence. The action movie effort was particularly wasted. This a character about thinking, not dodging explosions. Ritchie should stick with high school audiences.

The rapport, chemistry, and dialogue between the actors was superb but the plot left a lot to be desired. I think we just expected so much more of a story line. Perhaps since they chose to leave an opening for a second film, they will take a little more time on the next one and make it more of a psychological thriller. The movie was watchable and it certainly was not the worst movie we have ever seen, but it isn't one we will see again or purchase on DVD.

This was a fast paced, witty action packed adventure. Acting was superb. It is great to see Robert Downey Jr. at it again. Jude Law was a quite charming tough guy. Rachel McAdams had that twinkle in her eye that had you screaming for more. The actors were able to keep the movie with the people and not have it drift off into total special effects boredom.
Well worth seeing on the big screen.

I enjoyed the movie very much. A few laughs, a few gasps, and a few surprises !! Robert Downey Jr and Jude Law do make for a great pairing of the Holmes & Watson pair, even if this pairing is very different than what I would have imagined those two to be depicted as.
All in all, it was a fun movie, and left me wanting more of this Sherlock Holmes & Dr. Watson!

The chemistry between Law & Downey Jr was a perfect match for this movie! Lots of fast-paced action, plenty of laughs thrown in, and a movie in which you couldn't completely predict what would happen next! While set in 19th century London, the special effects brought it into the 21st century without taking too much away from the story's integrity. I'd definitely see it again!

I guess I expected a lot more out of a big budget Sherlock Holmes movie. There was a great dynamic between both Robert Downey Jr. and Jude Law. The movie on the whole was acted well, but the plot left something to be desired. I walked out of the theatre with mixed feelings about the movie. The action scenes were fun, but were they necessary to make a good Sherlock Holmes movie?
The entire movie felt like a setup for the next one, and that I didn't like. I thought it should have concentrated more on making this an awesome movie.
