Paul Rudd & Steve Carrell- could have been so good- such a let down --this plot has been done before-nothing new! Stephanie Szostak - terribly cast! Paul Rudd's usual cleverness wasn't utilized- he played "the straight man" and it was so disappointing. Steve Carrell's character was so bland- after the first 20 seconds it became monotonous! At times-some funny- but overplayed scenes-but wait til out on video.

Maybe it was the sold-out theater, but this movie had me rolling! I'm not saying it was the best comedy I have ever seen, but as far as this disappointing summer goes, this one is fun. See it with a packed theater because it really adds to the whole experience. The movie is nothing original (think Cable Guy meets Dumb and Dumber meets an episode of Three's Company), but who cares? The comedy and awkward situations make this one to see with your laughing buddies!

Steve Carell is sooo funny in this movie. I laughed out loud throughout the entire movie and so did everyone in the theater. The storyline could have used a bit of meat and originality. But at ;east they didn't waste to much time on building the narrative. It starts slow. But about a 1/3 of the way through the laughs pick up and the the movies a riot. Carrell and Galifanakis put it great performances. Perfect fun movie outing. This movie like won't stick in your brain (who knows maybe it needs another viewing) but it's truly worth 2 hours.

Complete waste of time and very disappointing. Started out slow with the mindset that the end would be crazy nuts. WRONG! Do not see the movie unless you want to live in a fantasy land about dressing rats up like drag queens (Steve Carells job in the movie). Poor theme that made a feeble attempt at humor. I didn't go in with high expectations. The trailers really don't do it justice. Whoever came up with the trailer should be demoted or something. You get the basic premise, but the level of comedic presence in the movie is lost. rather disapointing performance from Steve with red hair now. Does that mean idiots have red heair? Is that politically correct? Well the whole movie rotates around making fun of idiots, not shmocks... shmocks is really more like an A.H., a jerk,.. not an idiot, not a mentally challenged person. The jokes were sometimes rather stupid and the performance sometimes was reminescent of Jerry Lewis... funny for a 4 year old maybe... the adult jokes were as usual below the belt (litterally), not expecially funy... just stupid. There were a few good jokes and the whole movie could have been better if all the jokes were of that sort... like the blind guy turning off the light ... The finger cutting was irrelevant and not needed... etc.. I can continue a long list... but on the overall I have seen much better from Steve, for example get smart is so much better, and of course some of "the office" episods. Why do all the women have to be either sexy or naive in these movies? this is also obviously policitcally not correct... and just not correct. This is a movie that I put with a long list of stupid movies... like that one "hangover"... the jokes are at a very low level there is nothing "refined" in these movies just plainly stupid... I don't laugh when I see them, I start feeling stupid of watching them actually. I just don't get it how people make movies like that and hoe can people enjoy such movies. But of course everyone is different and everyone has a different taste and different view of the world... otherwise of course that would be boring, if everyone thought the same thing.

A very sweet and humorous movie. I am not always a Steve Carell humor style fan, but this movie does an excellent job on maximizing the capital of his type of slapstick. Plus an interesting social commentary on what is considered valuable vs what is considered laughable & expendable. Easily worth the full price of admission.

I tried so hard to like this movie. I love Steve Carrell and Paul Rudd. So, as the story moved forward I kept hoping that after a very slow start something INTERESTING would happen.
The premise of the movie, the "dinner", doesn't occur until 3/4 of the movie is over. And by then you are asking yourself, "what is the point?". Steve Carrell was unfortunately just sad. His caricature of a "schmuck" was embarrassing to watch. The teeth. Are you kidding? Just not a smart movie.
No, I do not recommend this movie.

I want to give this movie a 3 1/2 star. I love Steve Carrell and Paul Rudd and I think they make a good team. The movie was funny from scenes to scenes. The only thing that I didn't like was t oward the ending. But over all another great laugh movie..... way better than Grown Up and some other action packed special effect movies that I've seen.
