Julia Child, a character in her own right and in her own day could easily have been played in over the top, camp. Thankfully Meryl Streep captures Julia in all her goofiness, but gives the character warmth and grace. Amy Adams plays blogger turned writer and gives a sympathetic turn as Julie a woman who not admires her cooking hero, but one who shares many of life's big questions (who am I, what am I doing, how will I make a difference). Stanley Tucci & Chris Messina both are excellent in supporting roles that support support extraordinary women. Both marriages are portrayed with grace and touching kindnesses. A complete charmer of a movie and one that is a must see for the end of summer.

Went to the movie on Sunday afternoon, air conditioning was down, theater was packed, but no one seemed to notice, they were enjoying the movie too much! Both Meryl Streep and Amy Adams were terrific as were they're husband counterparts and other supporting actors. I wish I'd thought of doing what the author of this book did!!!

Meryl Streep did a wonderful job as Julia Child. Actually wanted more of her and less of the "julie" character (though of course I understand that was the intent of the movie/book). She was played well by Amy Adams but unfortunately found her to be way TOO NEEDY. The back and forth between them lacked a contiguous theme, and became somewhat annoying.

Watching Meryl Streep inhabit Julia Child without slipping into parody is like watching a great performer juggle fire, walk a tightrope or play a piano concerto one handed.Evryone else is clearly support but credible. Amy whats-her-name does a good job in an essentially morally dubious role. Her talent obscures the chasm between a woman who trained for years then spent 8 more yrs. writing a classic and a woman who basically achieved fame for a stunt. If more effort had been put into the question of what constitues fame, this could have been a great rather than a good movie or...( it could have been boring as heck.)

Julie & Julia was a two thumbs up full fare babysitter five star dinner out flick! Ms Streep was exceptional (as always) and Amy Adams' character was respectful. Forget the negative nellies out there in review land. The idea is whether you are 15 or 50, you can accomplish whatever you set your heart to do. Who can make an argument against that? The movie was heartwarming and inspirational. It was funny, thoughtful, and utterly delightful as attested to by the uproarious applause in the theater at the end!

I loved Meryl and Amy in Doubt, and I loved them in this movie. What great performances, and what a great script! Not only was the story funny, but it was well written and extraordinarily acted. I thoroughly enjoyed getting to know the story of Julia Child, who I vaguely remember from childhood. And it becomes even more interesting as the story is shown in opposition to a modern-day version. There are places where it lags just a touch -- but not many. I will go see it again, and I will buy it. Something I only do about once every two years. Excellent movie.

This movie was a poignant love story on many levels; both funny and touching. It was an excellent representation of how two people used their situations to discover their passions. Then allowing those passions to lead them into fuller and richer lives.
When one is led by their passions and they fulfill their dreams they can touch others lives and make them better. Our world would be a better place if more people lived the example these two women portrayed. They show what drive, hope and love can accomplish.

Julie & Julia is a film that celebrates the sensuous delights of food ~ the selection of, the preparation of, the eating of, and the communal blessings of. Contrary to many reviews, by men, I found the weaving together of the two stories of Julie and Julia integral to the film's theme -- that Child, in searching for her own work in life, had an impact on the way others found meaning and community in their own lives.

The drawing card of Julia child played by Meryl Streep will sell tickets. Having read her "My Life in France" which is a rich, informative autobiogrpahy I was irritated by the movie's silly stupid premise about a young simple minded housewife who showed no true understanding of food and what she was doing all all becasue she was bored. Even Streep who has mastered accents and impressions of people performance was a bit over the top- Bill
No, I do not recommend this movie.
