Great film. Very well shot; fairly well acted. Excellent script. The interweaving of the action captures us in the progress of Jamal's pitiable life from "rags to Raja", as if his life were flashing before his eyes. The emotions conveyed are gripping and enthralling: We cringe when Jamal throws himself into a cesspool and, later, when Salim witnesses the maiming of an orphan; we exult when Jamal and Latika are saved by Salim from the hands of the gangster, Maman, and when Salim releases Latika from bondage. We are rapt when Jamal answers the final question and gets the girl in the end. Sealed with a kiss, this story of lifelong love and devotion shows that Bollywood has finally come of age. It will likely sweep the upcoming Oscars.

I have now seen this film twice. It is an epic love story that informs the viewer. I found it enormously entertaining, provocative, and touching. Many of the shots are staggering in terms of both scope and content. It provides a unique look at modern India and many of its contradictions. As a Westerner, I was unfamiliar with most if the cast, and this made the experience that much better. The characters are engaging and revealing. I recommend Slumdog to anyone who has been moved by excellent filmmaking.

This was like any other average Bollywood film minus the song/dance sequences as far as the story and scripting goes. Simpe love story, well shot, worth watching once for the good cast of actors . The music scrore is great. There are many other worthier movies that have come out of Bollywood in recent years. I thought the narrative was very simplistic and very predictable in some ways.

I rarely go to see films, but so many people I know raved about this film that I went and am really glad I did. The way the story unfolds and thus gives the answers to the quiz questions to the main character is quite creative. I did not care for the LOUD music, but I suppose it fits the scenes. Once or twice I caught myself gasping out loud where cruelty was happening even if not visible. The acting was first-rate. Be prepared for scenes of abject poverty. I would actually go to see it again if time were no object, as I left with a feeling of "hooray, the good people win!"

I liked it: great cinematography, good directing, acting was pretty good, but I "just liked" the story rather than loved it.
The "realism" factor was missing for me so as long as you can watch this movie as part fantasy, then you're fine. Just don't walk away from this thinking living in a slum and enduring the injustices our hero undergoes would not greatly harm a human soul much more than was shown in the film.
Also, the story kind of unintentionally suggested to millions of poverty-stricken people that the only hope to happiness is money and a hot girlfriend or wife...

I was confused by classifying this movie as a comedy. There isn't anything funny about the plight of lower class poor people especially orphans in India or any other country for that matter. I thought it was difficult to watch the suffering of the two brothers and others in the story. I would, however, recommend seeing the movie, it is thought provoking. The well to do of this world need to realize how good we have it, and that we need to be more conscious of those less fortunate.

Absolutely one of the best films I've ever seen. The writing, directing acting and cinematography are sublime, not to mention the great musical score. The viewer is drawn in immediately and taken through a heart wrenching story of characters on the edge of survival in a modern world of haves and have nots.

Definitely worth seeing, but earlier reviews led me to expect a sweet love story. Should have listened to the guy who said "some scenes are hard to watch." Yes it's a love story and yes, Jamal's character is admirable. But it's India and these kids are poor in a way we'll never know here. See it like you saw Schindlers List, because we shouldn't close our eyes to some of the stuff that happens in this world even if it is hard to watch.
