I liked it: great cinematography, good directing, acting was pretty good, but I "just liked" the story rather than loved it.
The "realism" factor was missing for me so as long as you can watch this movie as part fantasy, then you're fine. Just don't walk away from this thinking living in a slum and enduring the injustices our hero undergoes would not greatly harm a human soul much more than was shown in the film.
Also, the story kind of unintentionally suggested to millions of poverty-stricken people that the only hope to happiness is money and a hot girlfriend or wife...
