Interesting look at the two sides of India melding into one. Face-paced with some suspense and a fair amount of violence. However, the violence is mostly left to the viewer's imagination rather than actually watching the complete act. Overall, a good movie worth seeing.

the acting is great, as a movie it is good art. however, the theme is twisted: every one who has anything in India is corrupt and bad, and the way the poor homeless child eventually makes it either: 1. become a prostitute, 2. become a hitman 3. become a multimillionaire by winning a TV show. it would be good to show the story of a family actually rising from poverty in a more realistic as well as wholesome way. i know it happens. this wold be a little more uplifting. this movie is tailored to cater to liberal guilt.

The movie met and exceeded the high expectations from the numerous awards. It captivated me more than I thought it would, and I found a feeling of being attached to the story and characters. I loved this movie and it is deserving of the five stars that many have given it. I will probably watch it again many times in my lifetime. However, with all the hype and Oscars, I expected more. My husband and I are Indians and we commented that it is taken from a non-Indian perspective, thus perhaps why it became maintstream enough to become a blockbuster and win Oscars. However, if an Indian movie was going to make it big, something like Monsoon Wedding was by far better, in our opinion. Having said that, it is still a great movie! The child actors who played Jamal and Salim were excellent!

It was a very good movie but I wouldn't say best picture. I also took my kids - 12 and 14 - wasn't sure if I could because it's rated R but I'll tell you the violence in any week's edition of 24 is worse than this. Music was great and a very good story.

This movie sensationalized the all-too-real misery of India's poor, adding gratuitous violence and a ridiculous "love story" for good measure. I'm disgusted by those who are responsible for recognizing quality - to the extent that they determine the winner of the Academy Award for "Best Picture!" Well made film and extraordinary actors all ( the children) they steal your heart. It is heart wrenching, to see this reality,this child abuse of children living in the slums, but it does make you laugh and In the end you realize you have seen a well directed film and thank goodness it ends on an upbeat note.

We sat in our seats for a good ten minutes after the credits ran, simply stunned. I can't remember a movie with so fresh a plot line, such great casting and character development, beautiful cinematography and score. But that sounds way too analytical. This is simply one of the most moving experiences I've had in a long time. The shame is, I probably wouldn't have gone to seen it if it hadn't so rightfully cleaned up at the Oscars.

You can't help love this movie, which is like a modern, gritty, tough fairy tale. It's got a definite Bollywood air (the credits at the end are worth the price of admission). The camerawork is powerful and gripping, the story wonderful. I thought some of the violence especially at the beginning (police), was unnecessary. The scenes of Mumbai (Bombay) were incredible. Having been there, I can tell you that the film captures the essential life force and energy that you feel all over India.

I am flabbergasted that this movie was chosen by the industry as the best it had to offer this year. I did not find it at all extraordinary. On the contrary, aside from the sensationalistic elements (most of the movie) depicting the horrors of life for street children of Mumbai, it was cheezy, poorly acted. predictable and schmaltzy. Obviously I'm missing something. I could see a few favorable reviews which I might disagree with, but 13 Academy Awards?

If I would have seen previews of this movie I would not have gone to see it. I can't stand to see children abused and violence and there is a lot of it in this movie. The story line is good but I came out feeling very sad. If you are looking for a movie to have a fun night don't go see this one. Like I said the movie is well done but very sad to see what children need to live like in other parts of the world.

The storyline here can be very much compared to "City Of God" and it tells the story of a kid who becomes a big winner on the Indian version of Who Wants To Be A Millionaire. He gets his knowledge on the questions he must answer to get there from recalling some very tough times in his life growing up on the streets. Slumdog Millionaire is indeed a must see!

I look foward to seeing this movie. After all the Oscars it won, I'm so ready to see it. I have heard that it shouldn't be rated "R" though, does anyone have anything to say to that?
