It's a great achievement to make a show about our debts seem so exciting, but it could have been edited more carefully. Remove the repetitive pictures of people walking down halls--they're a total waste of time. Put more emphasis on what can be done to get us out of this mess--this is limited to the last few minutes which, incidentally, are the best!

The story was well told and interesting without being sensationalized. I would have liked a little more discussion about what we can do to solve the four deficits we are facing, although there was some of that in the live panel discussion after the movie. Dave Walker is to be commended for taking up the task of sounding the alarm, and the sponsors, especially Agora Financial, for having the courage to produce this film.

Well done on the difficult subject of economics. It entertains, and informs without dwelling too long on boring details. It gives the lessons of history graphically and perhaps moves a bit too fast through some parts, as I would have liked to absorb the information. A DVD would have allowed for a pause to discuss various points in a group situation. It should be shown in all high school economics, civics and history classes. The makeup of the audience was quite on in years to benefit from the movie, but definitely agreed with its content based on comments made by those around us. I look forward to promoting my fellow citizens viewing this movie. Thanks for a great attempt at educating us on the problem at hand.

I.O.U.S.A. is a documentary that every citizen must see, especially those who personally subscribe to deficit spending. It reviews the economic situation of the US Federal Government, and it is one big fat Deficit. The graphic presentation of the inertia of the budget deficit since our country was founded is well presented and shows the the wide swings that can only lead to disaster. David Walker is depicted as a courageous man and the US's top accountant for almost 9 years. Most alarmingly shown was the trade deficit and Warren Buffet simplifies the ramifications of this problem. One needs to see it a few times to really understand all the concepts presented and internalize the problem and do something about it!

Exceptional! A rather financial neophyte, like me, was able to grasp and appreciate the very real truths being told. Excellent inllustration of what happens when anyone or our Country is indebted to another: Whomever we owe controls us...whether personal finances or our tax dollars. Save and stop borrowing. Simple concept. Steve Martin was great! When the panelists spoke of the need for ciitizens to govern they needed to emphasize the need for informed involvement and not simply involvement. We have been dumbed down. This point was very well illustrated. An exceptionally well-made movie on the most important "issue" for this Country today!

The topic is of utmost importance and therefore not to be missed. That being said, the execution was average at best. The message was not packaged in a way that I think the average American can understand and skipped back and forth between showing how ignorant the average person on the street is and the facts of the problem. I think all the street interviews were useless distractions and detracted from the focus of each point (making me forget what point we were on). The two main people focussed on in the movie were less than great communicators. Nevertheless a must-see to stir up the kind of movement we need to save our country.

I have read Empire of Debt and recommended it to several people-all of whom were scared to death. But the film fails to adequately address the depreciation of our currency over the last 45+ years as a result of profligate government spending. The film also fails to adequately place the blame for our fiscal problems on gutless politicians and a politicized federal reserve. Last but not least, the film incorrectly blames supply side economics and tax cuts (which are largely responsible for all the good things that have happened in the past and those Buffet imagines happening in the future to save us) which allow men to keep what they earn for fiscal and monetary irresponsibility.

David Walker was absolutely fantastic - smart, articulate and visionary. This movie must be seen by every congressman and candidate for office. Would love to see one of the presidential debates around this movie. How can we get the candiates to stop overpromising and undelivering? Let them share with us now , before they enter office, how they will deal with this problem. Was a little bit disappointed in the turnout. The theater didn't even have the movie listed on its marquee. Where will this movie be distributed and advertised? I recommend this movie to those who are completely clueless about monetary policy. Caution: this is not the whole story, and do not be seduced by the notion that the biggest problem is Social Security. The huge problem is Medicare, and that won't be brought under control separate from overall health care insanity. Next biggest problem is consumer spending on imported goods. Get a grip people and get out of the mall. Connected to overspending on imports is our negative savings rate. We all need to slow down the spending and step up the saving if we want to hang onto the assets of this nation. And finally, we absolutely must demand fiscal discipline in Washington.

Overall a good movie to describe how bad the hole is. Trouble is it seemed the filmmakers had to hold back when it came to describing the Federal Reserve and the impact the Fed has on our financial system. As the Fed's shareholders include not only the US government but also member banks, it would have been nice to see how they benefit from the national debt and how these same banks are the banks that we all owe money for our cars and houses to. Just seems like the movie wanted to go further to be a true "conspiracy" type of film. Perhaps they were influenced to temper the discussion about the role our banking system has on our financial system. In any case go see the movie if you missed the hour TV spots of Ross Perot in the early 90's.

The movie could have been more forceful on why debt is so bad for the country and how other countries could and can manipulate the political policies of this nation. A very good movie and discussion. For folks who are "political junkies", you probably won't hear anything that you didn't know. However, for folks who aren't, it's very informative. I am the type of person who glazes over at discussions of the economy. Not only did this movie make clear the sources of our national debt, it also made clear the potential consequences over time, as well as potentially feasible solutions (including the political will to hold our politicians accountable). It was the first time that I ever almost cried over our economic situation. The colorful characters and clips that were included throughout the film made the process of understanding this problem engaging and entertaining at the same time. I laughed more times during this movie than in a lot of comedies that I see.

The content of this documentary is extremely important, however the documentary itself was disappointing. The documentary was a straight to DVD quality. The content and the Panel were it's saving grace. Still this is a "must" view for all Americans. It should go to television next for general consumption.

This is the most important movie in our lifetime because of the infomation it contains. Our educational system is so poor we are given no information about the financial world - and not much of anything else either - how many "have went" and "have came" do you hear?? The discussion after the movie is facinating - David Walker and the man from the CATO Institute have brilliant minds. This movie is a "must see".

My wife and I attended the showing of I.O.U.S.A., and found the documentary informative, a bit disconcerting and even entertaining. As the "Pollyanna" of the group, Warren Buffet tended to take a little of the sting out of the message (a shared cheery economic outlook would tend to help his investment interests), but all in all the message was powerful. I actually will be calling on the local school superintendent to suggest the inclusion of this film in their American Government program. When it sinks in that the kids are the recipient of our monstrous debt, they may take a keener interest in the workings of their government.

Such an important film to watch if you have any desire to be an informed American. Unfortunately the film only tells you what you can do for yourself - save more and cast your votes for candidates who make our national debt a priority. It does not help you share your concerns with your network of family and friends, which is a major opportunity lost. That aside, the movie is an excellent presentation of the situation - a situation that all of us will have to reckon with, and one that will only get exponentially painful with every elected candidate that defers to the next generation of leaders.

Copious appreciation to those who have worked and paid to raise the issue but film is way too long for most of the public to focus; an overkill on the problems, short on solutions. We need leadership but who??? In the discussion that followed the five “leaders” disagreed amongst themselves! And the average Joe is supposed to come away understanding the solutions, his role and how to vote for the “right” leadership?
