I was a child in the 50's,so it was enjoyable to see all the sets that were true to my experience. The movie was more than I expected and didn't end as I thought it would. I would recommend it. It does lead to discussion afterwords.

For fans who want to see how real acting is performed, it most definitely would be worth 2 hours of your time to see Revolutionary Road. Warning however: Do not expect to see Kate and Leo as "Rose" and "Jack", the two characters who fell in love on that ill-fated ship in the movie "Titanic". This movie has depth of character, emotion, and is very thought provoking. Michael Shannon, who portrays Kathy Bates" son in the movie would be deserving of a Best Supporting Actor award for his amazing portrayal of an emotionally disturbed man. 5 stars for this movie.

I went to see this film on the recommendation of my wife and a good friend.
As I interpreted the film, it was about how many of us (as Americans) ultimately become our own worst enemies when we allow societal expectations - or perhaps our perceptions of societal expectations - to drive our lives in directions we don't necessarily want them to go.
The message I took away from this film is that to go through life without living it passionately is to die a slow and agonizing spiritual death.

Quite a cinema verite for the 50's. Lots of darkness and weak personality portrayal, but true representation of the conflicts of the time when the changed definition of the American family was emerging. Fine consciousness of America going post-war suburban with the new American dream. Good portrayals of characters, and wonderful costuming. Kind of a latter day Jack Lemmon APARTMENT. Perceptive analysis of people chasing dreams they're not sure about how to define.

I took my girlfriend to watch this movie for our 6 month anniversary. I was a bit hesitant at first because the trailers released were not very impressive. I made up my mind after reading some reviews and must say that this movie is definitely worth watching.
It is a though provoking film with a message. Kate and Leo are magnificent together; both have come a long way since their 1st venture together. Two thumbs up, must see!

This was a great movie, much of it like watching a painting. Everything to a "T" for the time period, right down to the ugly lamps and spice cans on the stove. I was surprised by the true storyline, however. I felt a little like I was force fed somebody's political agenda. It was brilliantly acted - and made me think about long afterward. That is usually a sign of a good movie. I would recommend but with a bit of warning while still not giving away the finale. Complex and beautiful, but disturbing.

After all the nominations I really wanted to see this movie so I brought a date - bad idea! This is quite possibly one of the slowest and most depressing movies that really makes you questions everything that you are doing in your own life that I have seen in quite a while. My date had nodded off within the first 20 minutes of the movie and I spent the rest of the time worrying about whether there'd be a second date. Acting was outstanding, however!

This movie, though dark, showed just what could and did happen to marriages and dreams in the 50's. I thought that the acting was first rate but what else would you get with a cast led by DiCaprio and Winslet?!? Costumes were amazing and the supporting cast was right on! This movie was made well but so depressing and full of angst. It was in line with what "hip" people thought of marriage I suppose in the early 60s. As if life has passed them by. I was born in 1960 and was the product of that era. If my parents ever felt that aggrieved by having me and my sister, they thankfully never showed it. Hollywood will rave about this movie, and the acting does deserve a lot of acclaim. The plot, however, is lacking, in that you keep watching and waiting for some dynamic change to occur, only to realize in the end that these static characters are stuck in a miserable existence. It is depressing to watch people who seek happiness in their external circumstances rather than finding true inner peace and joy. It's worth watching on video (if you like that "American Beauty" type of movie), but I wouldn't waste the extra money to see it at the theater.

From the trailers, it looked it would be a very good, moving film; however, we should know not to trust trailers, right? Thought DiCaprio was poor in this movie--it was as if he was his first acting job and just could not get into his character. Not a big Kate Winslet fan, but I've seen her in better roles. Revolutionary Road is one of the best movies I've seen to date. The acting from Winslet and DiCaprio is moving. The movie is better understood if one knows some history about the 1950's and has done some research on gender stereotypes during that time period. It is disturbing and will make you think long after you leave the theater. I would recommend to anyone who appreciates modern U.S. History and great acting!

Too long, too slow, unbearable. Love the actors and their acting was great, but the movie was no good.

The acting was great.....the movie itself could have been on lifetime. I was dissapointed and left the theater feeling sad. I can only say thank God I did not live in that era when women had such limited choices.

This movie is not one to simply be watched; it is to be experienced. It asks the watcher to "put yourself in my shoes". It exposes human nature and how people address the issues of living vs existing. This is where the characters come to an impasse. Living a life of mediocrity is not acceptable for some, but their lives are dictated by others. I loved how the director makes you come to the conclusion that all is not what it seems and that your peers/society have such an influence on how one defines happiness. I loved this movie! It was genius!

This was one of the most pointless movies that I have ever seen. There was no reason that I should have suffered through that movie for almost two hours. It could have been 30 minutes long and came to the same pointless conclusion. I would rather watch grass grow in my front yard that watch that movie again.
