Richard Yates' novel is on my top 5 of all time list; it's a brilliant character and socio-class study of the 50's. I was thrilled to see that a film version was being made, but, after seeing the film, wish-oh-wish I would have skipped it. I guess the lesson is - never see a movie if you hold the book in such high regard. One bright spot, and why I give a recommend - the controlled rage of Leo DiCaprio is breathtaking (literally) to watch, and I'm usually no fan of his. I love Kate, but this was way over her head. Her subtle performance in The Reader was much more effective.

After seeing the trailer several times, my wife and I were anxious to see this movie. My sentiments echo some of the other reviews. Very slow at times, I thought I had an idea of how the movie would go (I was WAY off), didn't seem to be any climax, no moral (doesn't have to be to be a good movie but it might help a BAD movie) and my wife and I couldn't ever really get the movie. It was a tough 2 hours. I like the actors alot and I think the acting was great but the movie was really bad. That said, it will probably win a ton of awards.

While I did not like this film as much as I wanted to I certainly think that it is worth watching—I went to see it primarily because I adore Kate Winslet. With a two-hour running time, there were a few instances midway through that I felt the story dragging, but the conclusion had my rapt attention—I went in thinking that I knew how the movie would end but was mistaken. Overall, a thought-provoking and entertaining movie.. Just don't expect to feel like going out and partying after you see it!

This is a well-executed realization of a weak script. The acting was good to excellent, with standout performances by Kate Winslett, Kathy Bates, and the actors who played the roles of Kathy's husband and son. I would have preferred an older actor than Leonardo di Caprio, who tended towards "overacting" his part, giving certain scenes the impression that we were watching theater rather than film.
The problem I have with the script is that it leaves many of the side issues under-developed, resulting in a rather two-dimensional movie. On the positive side, the movie's 1955 setting was beautifully done and entirely credible. Beautifully shot and edited, great music.

After all the pub Winslet received for her thespianiasm, I was fairly optimistic about going to see this show. Problem was, there was no show. We almost walked out 30 minutes in, but I figured Winslet and DiCaprio get their choice of screenplays and can't fail. Why they chose to do this movie together I'll never know. I'll admit, the acting and production was excellent, but man what a boring, predictable "show" this was. Save your money.

My husband and I watched this movie together and we were taken in by it immediately. We could relate completely to the truth of this couple and the problems they faced in their marriage - even though it takes place in the 50's. Winslet and DiCaprio were amazing in their portrayals and we were really upset that Leo didn't get an Academy nod for what we think is his best screen performance ever! Yes, it's depressing but SO true! We are very happily married but we could still relate.

I had a difficult time finding out what this movie was about from the previews and synopsis I had seen and read. All they could say was this was a couple, that didn't really give me anything to go on. I adore Kate Winslet, but I've never been a huge fan of Leonardo, so needless to say I went in with some prejudices. The journey you are brought on is harrowing, depressing and wonderful all in the same. I really found myself wondering, faced with the same obstacles, what would I have chosen? I won't give anything away - but the ending just tore my heart out. Wonderful performances all around from Kate Winslet, Leonardo DiCaprio and the amazing Michael Shannon. Try not to miss this one, but be sure to bring some tissues.

This picture puts into queston whether the American Dream is what you really want or is the comfortable aspect of it make you stray away from exploring new avenues. The emotional volatility of both Frank and April creates a quiet yet slight mumur from viewers. Michael Shannon's performance is key in creating more tension between Kate and Leo and provide some (dark) comical relief. Ultimately, this score really makes you think about how important it is to "feel things". The ending was surprising and made me stay seated for an extended period of time and really think about what had just happened. I truly recommend this movie as it is a testament to extraordinary acting within such a simple yet riveting story line.

This movie and it's musical score reminded me of "American Beauty". If you want to be depressed for less rent "American Beauty" or "In the Bedroom". Both are better! The acting is deserving of praise, however, I could never reccommend this movie to a friend. Well, maybe an enemy. Rent "Tara Road". It is about a house on a certain road but the ending and story are enormously better. I agree that this movie is for "thinkers" but you may "think " yourself straight into therapy. Very depressing, but realistic. I am sure there are people out there just like this in suburbia all over the place. However, this seemed more about a vehicle for acting, than it was a great movie to watch. Acting was great by all, but I go out to be entertained - not depressed.

The acting was excellent, but the story lead no where. Basically, what was the point of making this film? This is not entertainment or great film making. This film is not a new version of Death of a Salesman. Was this movie made to show that Leonardo DCapro can act in a serious film? I have seen a lot of films and this ranks as a waste of time.

If you've read the book, you'll be GREATLY disappointed. The screenplay completely deviates from this beautiful novel. What a pity, too. The story is very relevant - but it's lost in the bastardization of the screenplay. At least it was nice seeing Kate and Leo together again. But as far as the movie itself - skip it and read the book instead.

The movie itself was a little depressing, but it really truly made you think. I have found myself thinking about it a lot. But most inportant, the acting was incredible. Both Kate and Leo deserved Academy nom's for this movie. If the nominees for best actor and actress were better than this, I would be amazed.

Revolutionary Road appeals to the "thinking person." Amidst all the action movies, violence, and feel-good movies, this one really forces you to take a sobering look at your own life and happiness. I was captivated by each actor's performance and their ability to portray that character's flaws with great perfection...very believable and honest. Would I pay an extra $20.00 to add this movie to my DVD collection...Yes! I highly recommend Revolutionary Road. (A+)
