This movie had all my emotions going,: laughs, crying, maternal, scary, etc. Saw this movie which I have seen twice so far, is excellent. Would recommend to any Harry Potter fan.

If you have NOT read the Harry Potter books, this movie will leave you feeling confused. If you have read the books, DH Part 1 is going to be the best of the series in many ways. It is dark, and has a surreal feel to be so far from Hogwarts. The scenes of torture and fighting are so real it is disturbing. Again, this film will completely bamboozle anyone who hasn't read the books - even the other movies don't give you all the information you need to understand this one. But for all of us who love the books, it is amazing.

This movie was EXCELLENT!! As I have read the books, I was very pleased how well this movie verision was to the book. Most excellent so far and I am very excited to see the second part. There is humor and tears, it is fast paced so you might need to see it a couple time to pick up certain things. ;) I believe if you haven't seen any Harry Potter movies, you should see this one. =)

As usual the Harry Potter films deliver when it comes to special effects, acting, and story line. However, I gave this film only four stars because I believe that one needs to watch all the Harry Potter films and/or read the books to truly appreciate the story, jokes, titles, and more. At the time I watched this movie, I had only watched the first and the sixth installment. Therefore, terms like "mudblood" were lost on me. Aside from that, the movie was fantastic!

Was a great topic for discussion how they could split the book into 2 parts without the ending disappointing. Although they stuck fairly loyally to the plot the playing around with the events was a perfect way to end part one. The dramatic scenes were excellent, much more frightening and complex than the previous films which suited the fact that the main characters were older. (Definitely not for younger viewers.) The emotions of the characters were shown fantastically both by the screenplay and the talent of the actors. I am sure that JKR would approve. MUCH better than the last film. Real fans of the books will agree, I'm sure. A must see!!!!!

As a fan of Harry Potter since I was in first grade, I can knowledgeably say that Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1 was the best Harry Potter film yet. Throughout the entire movie, I was enraptured in the intensity of the film and plot. I was captured in a world of deception, power, fear, love, and death. A world I didn't want to leave.
Directer David Yates perfectly captured the perils of the Wizarding World, and the attempts of the minority to save it.
From the scene where Nagini strikes, to the sad image of the death of a loved friend, (I don't want to spoil it for anyone!) to Ginny and Harry passionately kissing, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part One keeps you anticipating the next twist in the story, while evoking viewers' emotion and empathy.
This film is WORTH SEEING.
Continued, but SPOILER ALERT:
Finally, the different subplots perfectly round out the film. Ron and Hermione's blooming "mutual admiration"; Ginny and Harry's forbidden love; Lupin and Tonks' illegal matrimony; Harry, Ron and Hermione's quest for the Deathly Hallows. voldemort is played spectacularly. His long fingers slowly and tenderly wrapping themselves around the Elder Wand; carressing Nagini. HIs drawling tones, evoking terror in all, and haunting Harry's dreams.

This film was much better than the previous Harry Potter, it was very accurate and close to the book. I'll have to say that because it was so close to the book, Parent's should be cautious in taking young children as it definitely has scary and dark scenes that may be inappropriate for young children. This film is more violent than any other and also more intense and great. If you read the book you'll be surprised as to how far they made it into the book and how action-packed the following film will be. AMAZING film I recommend it to all Harry Potter Fans.

The movie was awesome and worth the wait. I took my eleven year old daughter and her friend and both have read all the books. They were engrossed throughout and the 2 1/2 hrs went by like it was nothing. There were a few scenes where they were a little scared but overall they loved it. We want it to be July 2011 now so we can see Part 2.

Okay, so it's Harry Potter, but they could have easily cut out 35 minutes and we wouldn't have missed them. Good movie, but doesn't live up to the previous movies. Good thing this one came towards the end of the series. If it had been the first, I don't know I would have bothered returning to the series.

This movie was awesome. The adaptation was pretty spot on; I literally cannot wait for the second part! I have personally read each of the 7 books tens of times and I still cannot get enough of them. This movie had action, love, suspense, disappointment, sadness, humor, and so many other different emotions. You laugh and you tear up (or like me cry) at parts; then at others your thinking or saying "OHMYGOD that was cool!" I would recommend this movie to Harry Potter fans and non-fans alike! ABSOLUTELY AMAZING!

I feel that the Harry Potter movies have gotten progressively better. I'm grateful for the fact that they decided to give the culmination of the story its due by doing it in 2 parts. It was as I pictured it in my head, only better. I think every element benefited from having more time and space. See it!

OK Chris Columbus directed movies 1 & 2 and he followed the book, after that the movies were a shamble. This movie, other than leaving out minor KEY information if you didnt read the book..followed everything as it happens in the book..some parts almost verbatim... the action sequences are all there... they could have added 15 minutes to this movie and then noone would be complaining at all...but 2.5 hours passed quickly unlike other movies ive seen when It dragged in the middle this one follows the book as true as it could in 2.5 hours but alot of crucial items you really have to look for or listen to from the radio broadcasts they are listening to when they are on the run... I would go see this one again..because i reread the book before I went and low and behold i felt like I was watching what I read (minus a few things but I can handle that)... If they would have just not cut or let some of things play out a few more mintes I would rate this movie A+ but since they did cut short some things Ill give it A- but very very good compared to movies 3-6.

Excellent movie beyond words. The director had it right on the mood of the 7th book with the darker tone. Never felt more sucked into the story compared to the other movies. Best of the 7 so far and there is still one more to go!

Per normal this director cut important parts out of the movie and butchered it just like he has all the others that he has had a hand in. I was hoping that since they broke the book into two parts that more of the details from the book and accuracy would be followed better. Not so. It was almost a waste of time and money to go see it.

I knew that it would not please everyone that Deathly Hallows was divided into two parts. I thought a better place to split would be when Ron returns, but that wasn't the case.
There were certainly slow parts during the Horcrux hunt, but I think they are necessary to show how frustrating that effort was. The actors playing the Trio worked wonderfully together (no surprise, having done so for 10 years!).
I found the moments with Harry & Hermione (the impromptu dance that wasn't in the book, and the scene in the graveyard on Christmas Eve) particularly touching. And as one who just does not see how Ron & Hermione belong together, I definitely did see Ron showing much more care for Hermione than the book gave him credit for.
The action scenes were great fun (I loved the wand battle in the diner).
It definitely had a very dark caste (just as the two films prior did), and the build-up to the ultimate conclusion was done quite well.
The theatre crowd I attended with seemed to really enjoy the film, though the abrupt ending left us all muttering somewhat. Bring on part II next summer!

Was very excited to go see this movie, bought tickets week in advance-not worth the $36(tickets and snacks)--was just ok, followed book, but there were too many slow spots in between the action. when there was action is was fabulous, special effects were wonderful-- you believed Dobey was real!! But could have cut out most of the forest scenes where they just waiting for something to happen

If you are H.P fan then you are going to love the first installment of the Deathly Hallows. This movie is very loyal the book. Unfortunately, this movie, as the last is much darker then the earlier installments, so it may not be great for the little ones. However, my own Little Wizard and Witch loved it! It is an emotional roller coaster of thrills and action. Can't wait for the final movie!

I haven't read the books, so I can't say how well it compares. My 7, 10 and 13 y old kids all LOVED it! So did I. My older son mentioned the story line is somewhat different than in the book, but still enjoyed the movie a lot. I give it two thumbs up.

"Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows- Part 1" was AMAZING. This movie kept my hands "sweaty";) throughout the whole movie because of its thrilling story. Big Harry Potter fan!!
The movie was very good! It was kind of slow moving but, I think the director wanted to be true to the book and kind of show those moments of slow moving desperation that the characters experience in the first half of the book.
They didn't add too much extra or change too much. Very true to the book.
