I haven't read the books, so I can't say how well it compares. My 7, 10 and 13 y old kids all LOVED it! So did I. My older son mentioned the story line is somewhat different than in the book, but still enjoyed the movie a lot. I give it two thumbs up.
Yes, I recommend this movie.
