Loved it...but it seemed too short even after 2 1/2 hours! My 12 yr old sobbed, 10 yr old was a bit scared. I want the rest of the movie. Feels like so much is still to come.

this Harry potter movie was AMAZING! best one yet, definitely. some of the events were out of order, but it worked for the movie. i thought it included everything it needed to, the acting was phenomenal and i cannot wait for the next part!

Book fans will love this movie. Other than perhaps the first movie, this was the closest to the book than any of the other movies. It had a wonderful mix of darkness, terror, humor, sadness, and suspense. All of the crucial scenes were included and brilliantly brought to life. The few added scenes added to the overall suspense and general vibe of the movie, instead of feeling pointlessly included. Emma Watson's & Rupert Grint's acting is phenomenal. The ending was perfect and set up the final movie wonderfully.

I have really enjoyed the HP movies. Yes, yes, the books are better and die-hard book fans are gonna nit-pick on what's in and what's out, but really- let's enjoy what we've got here. And what we've got here is a good one.
There's some great humor in this; it has to since we're dealing with some Dark magic here- Voldy's taken over and our trio's on the run. The special effects are always good, but the story/plot line is what really keeps me coming back to this world again and again. The Harry/Hermione/Ron dynamic really comes into its own here- the scene of the fight between Ron and Harry shines as well as the aftermath. The lsword/locket scene actually had me cringing- for Ron's obvious dispair magnified by the evil inside. The Godric's Hollow scenes had me chewing my fingernails waiting for the blow.
All in all, the heart of Harry's world is still here. The climax of the movie isn't in the fight sequence, it's really the scene afterward that pulled my heartstring (you book readers KNOW what scene I mean). And the end left SO much unfinished- I actually yelled "WHAT?!" at the movie screen! Can't wait for Part II!

Took my 2 children (15/19) to this movie we have been to every one as a family , they agree that its a good movie but not a great movie in true harry potter style, many discrepancies from the book, but the overall idea was intact.
Of course you must see it because you must finish the series we hope part 2 is better

I went to see HP 7 knowing it was the set up for the second movie and thoroughly enjoyed it. It was a good setup for the ending of Harry Potter. I cannot wait for the last part, but will miss seeing new installments. Overall, I really enjoyed it and am looking forward to Summer 2011.

Harry Potter was outstanding and mesmerizing. David Yates pulled off what he missed with twice already, in making a memorable and stand-out film. Everything was phenomenal, from the almost always-gorgeous cinematography (the gorgeous landscapes-tracking shot montage and one of the best chase scenes I've seen in years come to mind) to the enchanting score that stayed true to Harry tradition, but still pulled it into a more beautiful whole of a composition. The actors and actresses have come into themselves and their characters in ways I couldn't even explain with simple keystrokes. They have grown with us and we've grown with them. It's fantastic to see them close their story so great. Even little things, like the clever pun towards Twilight were well-received and warranted. I'd be hard-pressed to find much negative criticism towards this film. If you have not yet seen it, I highly suggest you do so RIGHT NOW.

My kids & I went to watch the premier of Harry Potter 7 Part 1 and like always, the movie leaves us wanting more & wondering what the next movie will bring next. We look forward to viewing Part 2. I spoke to a friend about how excited I was & how I was anxious to attend. She asked why? She hadn't seen any of the movies. I let her borrow my collection and she absolutely loved it. I only just saw 1-6 this summer (watched 1-4 with rifftrax). Movies 1-4 are terrible, 5 is tolerable, 6 was okay. Deathly Hallows part 1 was okay, but it doesn't stand on it's own. It's not a movie of its own, its basically a two and a half hour prologue for Part 2. I'm not sure it was worth even seeing this movie in theaters, I could have easily waited for the Bluray to come out. I still plan to see Part 2 in theaters in Summer 2011, mostly because all the cool stuff in the Deathly Hollows preview... WASN'T IN PART 1. Part 1 is just a long prologue, the real movie is Part 2.

HP7 was definitely a step up from the 6th movie, but I would think that splitting the final book into two parts would allow them to cover essential smaller plot details, and the pacing was incredibly fast. If one only looked at the calendar for the book on hp-lexicon.org, one would see that very little actually happens after Voldemort steals the Elder Wand. Much of the events in the 7th book take place before then, and some of the smaller details like the death of Pettigrew were just breezed over. It didn't even look like he'd died. Dobby looks odd in this movie; I much prefered him in the second movie, but what's done is done.
I stand by my initial stance that it's a step up, but that's it. It is only a step up when it had the potential to be several times better.

Having seen all the other Harry Potter Movies, I personally feel that this particular production was very well made. I've read all the books at least twice and am very pleased at how the movie (at least for myself) captured the essence of the book.
I am aware that there are some parts of the book that had to be either cut or changed to adapt to a 2.5 hour film but even with these changes and cuts, I thought the movie was not only exciting to watch with some dramatic, action-packed, and even comedic moments, there was continuity.
The ending of the movie left me with a sense of anticipation of part 2. I would say that the movie gave me a sense of satisfaction that all through the movie I could recognize what parts of the book I remember reading.

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows was amazing. The action in the movie was suspenseful and yet there was a nice balance of a focus on the relationships within the movie. Hermione's relationship with Harry was revisited and shown that even in tough times, even when Ron and Hermione were going through a rocky time, and Hermione was weak they still stayed best friends. It was amazing also to see Ron and Harry come together and no matter how mad they may get at one another they are still best friends. That was the part of the movie I liked best. I did however love the action, and the CG. The movie almost felt real and I had a hard time leaving the theater. But Amazing!

The movie was pretty good compared to the other Harry Potter movies and it follows the book A LOT more than the other ones. The writing and acting was really good, and the comic relief was invited openly. The darkness of the movie was really intense, but in a good way. I also really liked the way they ended Part One.

I've seen 7.1 three times now, and I've enjoyed it more each time. Lots of details to set the stage for the final movie next summer. While the overall tone of the movie was dark, there were moments of humor, which I really appreciated. I'm looking forward to 7.2!

I was a little disappointed in the fact that it seemed a bit slower than the other movies and could've had more to it. I expected it to have more than just a lot of filler/travelling. I wanted more action and more of the books therein.
However, all in all, I enjoyed the movie, but I hope that part 2 is better. I put this on par with Empire Strikes back. A needed middle part that needs the rest of it in order to have full enjoyment.

The IMAX is horrible. It is digitally projected and the pixels are so big that they look like blobs. The contrast ratio is awful. There are traces of other frames all over the action scenes.
I enjoyed the movie, but don't waste money on IMAX.

Part 1 of the Deathly Hallows was great but did notice some parts that strayed from the book and in the beginning if you didn't read the book you wouldn't know why the Dudleys were leaving or Hermonie casting the spell. The movie however did keep my attention the enitre time and I would recommend this movie to anyone who is a fan of Harry Potter saga.

As avid Potter fans, my 9 year old daughter and I thought the movie was absolutely flawless and stayed so true to the book. We shared so many knowing nods and whispered asides about references to horcruxes, hallows, and why Bill's face was scarred. But if this were your first Potter movie, or if you've only followed the story to date through the cinema, you would be lost. My advice to first-timers: Do see it but only with a Potter fan, then go to a coffee house afterwards and let us regale you with the richness of the backstory and what we anticipate will come in July (and it BETTER include the Prince's Tale!)

I was dragged to this movie by my GF... I've never seen any of the Harry Potter movies or read the books... I really had no idea what was going on... I was able to take a little nap during the movie not fearing that I would miss anything... I guess if you're a fan of this kind of movie you might like it but if you are a heterosexual male such as myself, it's just not my cup of tea...
