As an avid fan of the books, I generally don't have high expectations for the movies. Mostly, I go for entertainment and to listen to all of the gasps in the theater from the people who haven't read the books.
However, I was quite impressed with what was included and what was not left out of the movie. It seems like the films improve with each passing release.
There is an excellent animation when Hermione is telling the story by Beetle the Bard about the Three Brothers. The animation was incredibly creative and oddly Tim Burton-esque for a Harry Potter/blockbuster film.
Daniel Radcliffe's acting could still use a little work, but Rupert Grint's has improved greatly since the first film.
As far as the ending goes (no spoiler), they could not have left it at a better place. If you haven't read the book, it will be a cliffhanger.

Considering they are making one book into two films, DEATHLY HALLOWS PART 1 (or HP 7, Pt. 1, as the posters say) actually still leaves out some interesting parts of the book, most notably the leave-taking does with the Dursleys and Dudley's actual friendly admission about how he feels about Harry. Perhaps it was shot and will show up on the DVD, but considering that they did add a scene in which Harry and Hermione dance that was NOT in the book (but does feel like a nice little breather in an otherwise grim film) and another more risque one in which they kiss, many Potter fans are probably wondering what will happen in the concluding part due out next year.
I still think AZKABAN is the best of the films (mostly because I feel that Cuaron was the best director they have had) but Yates has done a yeoman's job in the films he has done for the series, and it is so astounding in how Radcliffe, Grint and Watson have grown-not just in their characters but also as actors. I truly hope that wherever their careers take them they continue to produce great work.
The supporting cast is great, as usual, and the rating of PG-13 should be taken very seriously by parents. This is not a film I would recommend to young children-there are many disturbing images and scenes, and the death of a few well-known characters might leave some younger viewers a bit distraught.
All in all, a really terrific film, and I cannot wait for the finale next year and the expected demise of one character, which should blow the roof off packed theaters when it happens.

Ever since the first Harry Potter movie, they have gradually been full of less and less from the books. Part one of the seventh movie, however, stayed very true to the book! It was an amazing movie all together and included so many of the little (but important!) details from the Deathly Hallows book. And to top it off, this movie had some really funny parts too! So all in all, I laughed, I cried, and I absoloutely loved it!

It was obviously very different than previous Harry Potter films because it took place outside of Hogwart's. It is a lot darker than the previous movies, but it is a good different. We get to see the mature sides of Hermione, Harry, and Ron. It is really good film for Harry Potter fans and any adults looking for a magical action-adventure. The only suggestion I would make would be that this one is not exactly for young kids. Some of the scenes were very graphic and for mature audiences.

As a dedicated HP fan, I enjoyed the movie for the most part, BUT it is NOT for kids. There is a reason for the PG-13 rating! Several parents ushered their kids out of the theater after seeing the violence (not to mention the nude makeout clip).
Even though I believe the previous movies were okay for youngsters, I don't think most parents would want their young kids seeing this one without previewing it first!

Absolutely loved the movie! The only things wrong were the young girl texting in the row in front of me during the whole movie and the baby crying about three rows back about half of the movie. Very distracting. What is wrong with people! I guess they are not avid movie goers like me.

I really thoughtthat this movie was outstanding, it by far was better than the others as it made you think of just what was going to happen. The other Harry Potter movies were very see through and you could tell just what was going to happen.

Though this movie was true to the first 1/3 of the book, there was not much action or suspense. In my opinion it was the worst of the series so far. I took 5 teenagers to it with 2 of them falling asleep in the movie theater. They will need to kick it up a few notchs if they want the finale to go out with a bang. I was wondering how they were going to pull off making the last book into a few parts. So far in my opinion they have failed....

Knowing that every piece can not go into a movie, I felt David Yates did an outstanding job and kept the essence of the book. I had read some reviews and did not feel that the middle of the movie was 'slow' nor that the 'nude' scene was inappropriate. Kudos to Yates, the cast, and especially the author. Anxiously awaiting Part 2!

HP 7 Part 1 was good. Non-HP fans who have not read book 7 would find this movie a little confusing. However, I am an avid HP fan and loved it. It did a good job of going chapter by chapter. It is a good beginning to the end of the HP franchise. Good movie!!!

Although I've only been disappointed with portions of the past two films, I approached this one with fear and trembling. Could they truly divide the last book without spoiling its faithfulness to the story line or the series' overall charm?
They did it! This film is one of the best -- as well done as the first with only very minor story omissions or changes. Harry Potter fans can breathe a sigh of relief.

I'll begin by stating I've never read a Potter book, but have seen all the movies! And of course, it is necessary to set/build the scene for the finale, but I thought this movie was a bit slow moving with lots of weighty, script-less scenes requiring the maturity of the young actors to fill. My movie buddy did miss "the what" and "the why" in this movie (i shared what i knew). I did enjoy seeing them all grown up and yet I found myself recalling their youth longingly. I did like the idea of even though Harry was the chosen one, he can't fulfill his destiny alone. Certainly entertaining and necessary to complete the Potter series/movies...waiting for finale part deut!

The book was followed as well as possible - I wish Scrimgour's movie character was more confrontational with Harry, and the Kreacher subplot was more involved in the movie
I'll wait for the DVD - maybe they'll be deleted scenes - Hopefully! - Can't wait for Part II!

Saw it this weekend and loved the movie. I wanted to watch it again the next day. Nice job in showing how three main characters have matured. Looking forward to part II--couldn't believe it was really over!

This is a great movie. It leaves you hanging at the end so you are ready and waiting for the next movie. The acting is spectacular as always. The story line is increasingly exciting! Action packed. You don't feel like you've been sitting in the theaters for 2 and a half hours when it is over. Suspenseful and full of emotion. A must see movie!

I loved the first part of book seven. It started well and ended well, I was worried about the ending. Nothing important was left out my only complaint would be the sound track. i don't know if it was my theater or not but out of no where the sound would really go up end in a bang or a boom, like the movie was supposed to scare the audience but there was nothing scary on the screen. In fact the boom would usually come just as the screen went blank!! Other than that great movie would recommend to anyone who loves Harry Potter.

Thus far, this film is the best in the series. It manages to stay true to the book the best so far for all of those people who have read the series. There was Suspense, romance, a tiny bit of comedy in such a dark film and of course there was action. I was suspicious with WB for splitting the film into two parts, perhaps for financial gain; but it was probably the best thing they could have done. The part the directors and JK chose to end with was the best possible and left me wanting to stay for part II. July 2011 can't get here soon enough.

If you read the books, you won't be disappointed here. I always have lower expectations when it comes to books being translated to the big screen. The visuals in this film were well adapted and the plot (though a lot goes unsaid in film) did the best it could considering the complexity of the books themselves. Overall i think it was a great movie even if you aren't an HP fanatic.

The film meets it's very high expectations, is a faithful rendering of the book, is technically dynamic and leaves little out. However, it suffers from sequences that were filmed for 3D (which was not used), and the need to cut off the film in mid-book, without resolution leaves one leaving unfulfilled. From a personal standpoint, why can't we see more of the who's who of British acting greats who are relegated to 3 line cameos?

This is probably the best perception of a Harry Potter book that I've seen. And I've seen many seeing as I'm a devoted fan. I feel like it definitely takes a step away from what we're used to because it's such a different take on it. We are feeling every single thing that the characters are feeling because it's such a densely packed book. David Yates did a magnificent job in portraying this first part of the last installment of the series. I personally can't wait until July when I can watch the ending.

HP7 part 1 left me at the edge of my seat. I have read the books and I have to say I wasn't disappointed in the movie. The film was dark, and it may have slowed down at certain parts, but those parts were necessary because they built up anticipation. Where would they go? How can they find the horocruxes? Who will die next? I laughed. I had palpitations. I may have jumped out of my seat about 4 times and I definitely shed a tear. I had no idea what Part 1 would entail, but what I do know is that I CANNOt wait for Part 2. Help!

I expected part I just to have dragged out scenes that are just leading us up to the excitement of part II... and my expectations were right. It was still an entertaining movie but very long for no reason. Not my favorite Harry Potter movie but then again I'd rather read the books again. It's worth watching because I expect part II to live up to it's expectations. I hope...

Very dark movie and not meant for little ones...my 7 year old got a bit scared a few times. Personally I didn't think this movie lived up to the hype and while it was worth seeing I wasn't blown away. It's like watching the movie Rocky only Rocky gets beat up throughout the movie and never wins. It may be close to the book but both me and my 16 year old daughter left the theatre disappointed and we loved the rest of the series.
