If you read the books, you are fine. If not, don't waste your time. I love the series and the characters - so it was enjoyable to watch them develop into young adults, etc. If you are not invested in the series, this movie would leave you wondering what was going on.
I loved the movie (have seen it twice). It's missing some of the most emotion-filled intense feeling parts of the book. It has beautiful imagery and some parts made the audience laugh out loud. Can't wait to see what they do with Part 2.

This is much truer to the book than previous Harry Potter movies. Even though it is slow in the middle, that is also true to the original...a time of darkness and waiting, uncertainty and, at times, despair. Not a "fun" movie, but neither was the book. I can't wait to see part. 2.

Long & dark, but entertaining. I was a bit confused at the end because I was expecting to see scenes that are in the trailers, but obviously belong to part 2, which I didn't understand.

I thought this movie was great but it was a little scary and sad at the end. Please if you don't like seeing things get carved into skin, don't watch the end because one of the death eaters carves something into Hermione's arm and it is a little scary.

When a movie takes a story to a higher level, you have to call it a great success. Although not true to the book in every detail, this movie carries the first half of the book well and sets us all up for the grand finale. Go Harry!

As usual, the movie is not as good as the book, but it is an honest attempt at a true adaptation. I recommend this movie to anyone who enjoys action or the Harry Potter series, and cannot wait for the next installment. Just don't drink a lot of soda or you may miss parts of this amazing movie!

This movie had some inconsistencies with the book, ie Harry was not in disguise at the wedding or at the cemetary, but it still was absolutely fabulous. The snake and other special effects were great. I can not wait to see what the second part has to offer. This movie will be hard to beat. Too bad there is only one more to go.

Wow. This movie was fantastic. Watching it brought everything from the last book back to me. As bleak as the situation is for Harry & friends, I liked that there was humor thrown in alongside all of the chaos. I did become a little sad over certain situations. In all, it was done very well and I can't believe we have to wait 8 months for the final part. The countdown, for me, starts now.

I grew up with Harry Potter. Started reading the books as soon as I could read! I have such a vision for the characters and settings.....but all of my unreasonable expectations were met and exeeded! Wonderful acting, meaningful moments, and any and all changes were logical...and in one situation, adorable. A wonderful movie. Go see it RIGHT NOW!

I felt that this was the best of the Harry Potter movies thus far. I just regret it is the last movie that will be made. I also very much regret that it won't be till next summer before we get to see part II. As far as the movie itself I felt it came the closest to the book of any of the previous movies.

I was wondering how they were going to translate a very long and intricate book into a movie - the filmmakers have done a wonderful job! There is a lot of action, but also a lot of opportunity for the young actors to shine as they display a range of emotions. The movie is dark, as it should be, and gripping. Now I want to see it again to savor it more slowly. Can't wait until next summer for Part 2!

Anyone going to see this movie is in for a treat. The action is almost non-stop, the special effects are flawless, and the music fits the film perfectly. Radcliffe, Watson and Grint carry this movie just the way they should, and I for one would pay to see it again (something I never do). It's well worth the $10.00 per seat.

The movie did an excellent job of staying true to the book and including important details. Even the slow parts of the movie kept me enthralled and the action scenes are very well done: exciting and fast paced, but not confusing or overdone. I plan on seeing this movie a few more times, and you should see it as well.

Okay. So the movie was very good. Intense, funny, very scary at times... all kinds of emotions. Good plot line and was impressed with most of the movie, however...I was very shocked and disturbed when I saw the scene harry potter and Hermione embracing each other. I went to this movie thinking it wouldn't have anything of concern in it, however I couldn't imagine if I was there wth my kids watching it. Not trying to get on a soap box here, but I thought it was completely inappropriate that they just through that filthy scene in there. It just proves that the world throws so much trash and worldly things into hollywood and movies no matter what it is... Being a Christian in this world - its crazy when you can't even watch a simple harry potter without a nasty scene like that and some filthy words thrown in... Parents - you who are trying to raise your kids against the things of this world - be aware of these things when you are thinking about taking your kids to see this.

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1 was a movie that contained long, overdrawn chase scene after chase scene. I agree with Maverick 99 that some of the scenes were very unrealistic. I felt that the movie was geared to IMAX - lots of pretty outdoors, even great winter images - but I did not see it 3-d so I might have missed the "magic."

I thought this was very well made and stuck close to the book's storyline. I did NOT like the dream scene that Ron had. I would not take anyone younger than 15 or 16 to see this movie because of that scene.

This Potter flick is exceptional. The story is solid, acting is the best of the series, and the characters are engaging; plus, "The Tale of Three Brothers" could stand on its own as a short film à la the first 10 minutes of Disney•Pixar's "Up." In the end, this film leaves much to be desired which is a good thing since this is only part one of two.

It's a reminder that the end is near - and it's sad in many ways. But I AM glad that the actual reason that they needed to break this book into 2 parts IS so that they are able to stay as true as possible to the book - of course it's still an abridged version, but there's not SO many missing pieces as there are in other HP movies.

I'm an avid Harry Potter fan so I would have loved this movie no matter what, but it was truly amazing. The costumes, set, lighting, special, effects etc. were all great and contributed perfectly to the story that I know and love. I was disappointed about a few changes from the book and I thought that they movie lost the tediousness that the book described so well. Can't wait to see part 2!
