My husband and I saw this film on Senior Citizen Tuesday and throughly enjoyed it. We had seen the broadway show twice and were confirmed in the director's ability to capture the mood of the play. The scenery was breaktaking, and merits a trip to Greece! Streeps voice/acting was impeccable. I am a fan of Pierce Brosnan, so I forgave him his voice limitations, because he makes up for it in good looks. Fun show,highly recommended.

This movie is excellent, I have now seen it three times. It gets better every time, whether you are 13 or 34 or 56 you will still enjoy the movie and be dancing out of the the theatre! I highly recomend it.

I wouldn't wish this movie on my worst enemey. For only the third time in my 35 years of life, I walked out of a movie after 20 minutes of sheer torture. The acting was corny as opposed to funny campy, and singing was terrible! I am a huge ABBA fan, but this movie spits on the band's reputation. Anyone who like this movie has no taste! PS - I wasn't a big fan of the Broadway production either.

I was lucky enough to see the stage performance in London for my 40th Birthday. This film version was a lovely surprise. From the location on a beautiful greek island to the performances by the cast (who knew Pierce Brosnan could sing and still be sexy?), they achieved the same feeling you felt after seeing the stage performance - feeling good, light as air and still singing your favorite ABBA songs!!!! Stellan and Meryl were phenomenal!!!

My 30+ daughter and I went for a girl's afternoon out. We so enjoyed the movie we went straight out after and bought the Soundtrack. All the Stars were just great. Such entertainment. We need more feasts for the eyes at the movie theatres.

Great movie, great performances, and great music. Pierce Brosnan was excellent, and I very much appreciated his singing efforts (particularly in light of the Terry Gross interview on NPR wherein he admitted that he could not sing). Way to go Pierce!! Not to mention thank you for looking sexier than EVER!! (I had no idea how well Remington Steele would age!) Kudos to all of the cast. I particularly enjoyed Tanya (Christine Baranski), who was just too much fun. Definitely worth seeing, and a great one to see with sisters / girlfriends.

Having first seen the live performance several years ago, the movie, while amusing, paled in comparision. I supose the big screen can never rival a stage production, but it seemed to lack the energy, spirit, and humor of the live performance. I truely missed getting out of my seat and dancing and singing at the end!
The movie did not hold true to the original ABBA versions of the songs, which I personally found disappointing. The characters, especially that played by Christine Baranski, were not quite as rowdy and raunchy, and therefore some of the humor was lost.
To its credit, I attended with a friend who had never seen the stage show, and who is not a fan of ABBA, and she absolutely loved it!
I would recommend this film to others who are looking for a good laugh and a throw-back to some good music. But if you've seen the live performance lower your expectations.

Start to finish, this was the most uplifting movie I've seen in years. Of course, the music was fantastic, the location and scenery was awesome and if Meryl Streep isn't nominated for an Oscar for her "The Winner Takes it All" then we need to rethink what's important in life. Her emotion and gut performance in that scene was heartstopping.

I'm very lucky to have been able to see the stage show when it was in my area a few months back. It was *fantastic* and I fell in love with it.
When I went to see this movie this past weekend, I was very disappointed. Contrary to the previous review I read on this site, I felt like they left a *lot* of things out that were in the show, and cut a few things that were necessary to the plot. Because of a few cuts, I was scratching my head thinking, "where is the backstory for this scene? why are they behaving this way?" In the stage production, it made sense, but on the screen it left me thinking, "WTF?"
I would not recommend this movie at full price to a friend. It's great if you've never seen the stage production, but if you have, you'll be disappointed.

... We had not seen the theatrical production, and confess a certain ambivalence toward Abba's music. Put it this way: If you drink enough tequila "Dancing Queen" is the best watusi song in the world, but it's gone -- like the nutrition in a rice cake -- when you sober up. Still, the effort that went into the flick is impressive, and the actors -- who were NOT raised on musicals like MGM stars of the 30s, 40s and 50s -- get props for plowing through the songs and, awkwardly, posing and posturing their way through the numbers with eyebrows and arms and facial expressions typically used in support of more serious dialogue. For us, just when a plot development seemed plausible and a beat had our foot tapping in the soda-sticky aisle, we could actually hear some of the ABBA lyrics. Oh boy. "Just one look and I can hear a bell ring One more look and I forget everything" Forget the popcorn. Bring a bag of rice cakes.

I wasn't really familiar with Mama Mia or the music of Abba. Being a fan of live performances I decided that I would see the movie and I've been to see it 4 times since its release. I love the cast, the singing, just everything is amazing. You leave the movie happy and light. Though I know a live performance may not be as glamorous as the movie, I'm looking fwd to having the chance to see it this October.

Ok. I have never seen the stage version of this movie, so I have nothing to compare it to. But I did enjoy it. It was fun to watch and the setting of the movie is amazing. I absolutely love the Greek Islands. If you hate musicals, you will not enjoy this movie. I found it very entertaining. Not too deep, just a fun movie to watch for a couple of hours. The only painful part of the movie is Pierce Brosnan's singing. It was so bad!
In the end, a movie with Meryl Streep is going to be watchable because she is so fantastic.

Mamma Mia is stunningly beautiful in terms of scenery. The acting is okay at best...but it's the story and music that make it a fun romp through the lives of its principal characters. I am a big fan of ABBA , have been since the 70's so naturally I had to see the movie to figure out how they could use the music for a movie. I absolutely loved it! Great music on the stage or on the screen. Lots of fun, you really want to get up and dance. Stay to the end, do not jump up and just run out. The final two songs really get you in the mode to dance your butt off, but you have to see the men in the final costumes, they are a hoot. Young and old would enjoy this movie but you can really enjoy it if you have seen the play.

Great Fun Flick that has some good stars singing Abba songs in an okay fashion. Ruined my vision of James Bond for good and Meryl and company did well. Grandkids, parents and grandparents enjoyed the show anyway.

I have always wanted to see it on broadway and hadn't had the chance to but when I saw it was coming on the big screen .I thought NOW here's my chance!! SO I was asked by a friend of mine if i wanted to see it and I immediately said YES! When I was done seeing it I was overcome with WOW! and it was worth the wait of wanting to see it.i sang along with every song . I loved it! I loved it! I would see it again !

I absolutely loved the movier. It was first rate, positive experience. I heard the rest of the theater audience laughing along with the movie. The music was uplifting. I am planning to see if again. I took my mother and an older friend and we all loved the movie. Makes you smile just thinking about it.

Watching this movie was just a fun way to spend my time. It was funny and touching. You felt everything the actors were feeling. Who knew Meryl Streep could be so fresh and carefree? And she can sing! I left singing Dancing Queen.
