I went with my Mom to this movie and we had equal amounts of fun. The cast is brilliant and singing was impressive as well - esp for the actors in the movie who aren't know for being musical (Brosnan, Streep, etc.). You can't sit still through the musical pieces and Meryl Streep really hammers out quite the performance during "Winner Takes It All." Tip to the future movie goer - stay through the initial set of credits - the surprise is well worth it. I would recommend this movie to woemn young and old - bravo!!!

I saw the Mama Mia with my granddaughter and it cut across the time barrier to bring us emotionally and joyously to the same place.
We laughed and sang and danced in our seats throughout the whole movie. She had seen the play in VEGAS and I never had seen the live show, but the music and the acting were superb and I will go see it live the next chance I get.
I will definitely buy the movie and the sound track for my collections.
There were a couple scenes I felt were too sexually explicit to prevent it from being one of the best family movies of all time, but for adults I think it was great.

We saw the Broadway show in NYC 2 months ago and LOVED it. Couldn't wait for the movie to come out! The movie is just as fantastic as the musical. You'll be dancing in your seat and singing along with the music through the whole thing! Meryl Streep, Pierce Brosnan, and Christine Baranski are hysterical in this as well.

We've been watching the previews for weeks, and just the fact that the music by Abba was being featured was enough to get me hooked.
But the trailers didn't do justice to the real deal! Oh my, what a group of supporting talent. I could go on, but then you might not go see it and miss what I feel will be the "Blockbuster" this weekend, and be up some some serious awards this year.

If everyone broke into a happy song at the drop of the hat it would be a better world. The cast is pretty, the islands are pretty, the villa is funky and colorful and even the extras seem happy to be there. I love the older cast (Meryl, Christine, Julie, Pierce, Colin and Skars) with their windblown hair down and the minimal makeup . They looked fabulous. I read a review that the songs were shoe-horned into the script, but really the songs are the script. Definetly worth the price of admission

I think we all understand that this movie was never intended to be Oscar material.
And I have to admit, I'm not a big ABBA fan - I didn't recognize half of the songs in this movie, so it didn't mean much to me.
But it was much worse than I expected - the acting wasn't great, the singing was sometimes unbearable, and the storyline was ridiculous.
That being said - everyone was having so much fun making this movie it was hard not to get caught up in the enthusiasm. The actors clearly knew that this is just a bit of fluff, and that they are not great singers, so they just had fun with it.
It was quite refreshing to see people willing to make fools of themselves (and that they did!). We had some of the best actors in the world in this movie, and they just let loose and had a good time - I enjoyed that!
There were moments that were just painful, too - but they pass fairly quickly.
I've seen excellent movies that I could never bear to watch again (ie, Shindler's List) - this is the opposite - a terrible movie that I would see again in a heartbeat!
One hint - during the credits - GET UP AND DANCE!! Isn't that what you're there for?

Not usually big on musicals but willing to try anything. Good cast, if a little older than believeable. Streep is always worthy. Baransky is always fun, although her Rasta-like suitor was ill-advised and frankly "icky" since he was young enough to be her grandson. Brosnan's "singing" and lip-synching weren't as bad as his complete stiffness in "acting" out his singing whatsoever. Yet, it was almost charming in a vulnerable sort way, suggesting he was so in love with Streep's character that he would even torture himself (and us!) this way to get her. Firth was understated but fine in a secondary role; an ability more big names should try to emulate. And of course the classic ABBA songs are the whipped cream folded into it all. I felt the need to brush the sugar off my teeth afterwards, but so what... (B-)

Although this movie does not compare with seeing it on Broadway, it's full of full and great performances. Meryl Streep surprisingly has a lovely voice and is great in this role. Pierce Brosnan can't sing for beans but is great as Sam. Colin Firth is just drop dead gorgeous. Non-stop action although I found it unbelievable that the natives on the island would get up break out in song and dance. No insult intended, I love the Greeks. A fun movie for all. I think a new generation of ABBA fans will join the rest of us. Everyone will enjoy the scenery and wish they were there.

Mamma Mia was fun to watch. The singing and dancing was very well done and the Greek Islands were beautiful to see. The view of the Greek Island made you feel like you were there as well. Meryl Streep and Pierce Brosnan did a fine job entertaining the audience. The costumes were a great added touch to the dancing and choreography. A must see!

This movie with all the beautiful scenaries, fun charachters, and delightful reminiscence of music that makes one feel young and alive was just the ticket to revisiting a youthful time and validating maturity. What fun they must of had making this musical. I enjoyed this story so much that it made me want to dance and sing without age being a factor. The young and the mature will find something to love about this movie. It was great fun and entertainment well worth the ticket price to see it on the big screen. Hands down the most fun I've had at a movie in years. Much of the audience was actually standing up and dancing towards the end, and the majority of those who weren't were clapping along enthusiastically. Disregard the reviewers intent on over-critiiqueing individual performances, they are missing the entire point. The message and indulgence of this joyous production is to let go, have fun, and maybe come to the realization that most of us are far too rigid in this brief journey we're on. The charismatic cast is so obviously having a blast, it is utterly infectious and irresistible. And Meryl Streep proves, yet again, that there is apparently no role she can't completely nail. Let yourself get swept away for a couple of hours, and realize it's also a fun-filled spoof of traditional musical theatre. It's a vacation-- enjoy!

Talk about a feel good movie-Seldom does a movie impact the full audience in the theater. Everyone stayed for the credits and chatted about parts of the movie while exiting. Primarily a chick flick (certainly the mom-crowd more than the teen crowd) but plenty of men would get a kick out of it. This is a great movie! It’s stunning and joyful. You will want to sing along and cry. Amanda and Meryl stand out among the rest. I have seen it twice and plan to go again. You will not be disappointed.

My partner and I saw Mamma Mia yesterday, and the critics are basically right--the show is a mess. It does have several fun and funny moments, but there are too many close-ups and not enough scenery; the singing ranges from fair to almost unbearable; and the whole thing has an unpleasant campy feel until the final two numbers when it becomes a parody of disco and we wanted to crawl under the seats. Many of the audience members seemed to enjoy it, but we came out feeling vaguely depressed. We hope it makes money, so it will encourage making more movie musicals, but it was not a memorable film (it actually makes The Producers movie look good in comparison). By all means catch the film, if you can see it at a second-run house, but if you like the stage version, be prepared to be somewhat (?!) disappointed.

AFTER HAVING SEEN THE BROADWAY SHOE I'M SPOILED. IT SEEM LIKE THEY HAD TO CREATE THE SCEENS TO FIT THE MUSIC SORT OF A CUT AND PASTE JOB. WHERE THE SHOW WAS GOOD FUN , THE MOVIE WAS SLAPSTICK.

I guess it would have been helpful if I'd have seen the broadway show first. I thought it was nice and lighthearted, but that was about it. The acting was pretty bad, but the scenery was awesome. Beautiful islands.

Fantastic!!!! Much better than I expected, and I had high expectations. The element of comedy throughout the move was a great. Meryl Streep was amazing, and the "three Dad's" were perfectly cast. I took my younger daughter and her best friend and they loved it, except when I'd start to sing....!!! The dancing and costumes were a hoot!!!!! I will be seeing this again, and again!...and will buy it when it's out for sale. Enjoy!
