This is the kind of movie that I can't wait to have at home where I can bust out singing and dancing along with Meryl, Amanda and a bunch of girlfriends. The adaptation from Broadway to the movie screen was excellent and really made for an enjoyable and feel good movie. I too agree that Pierce Brosnan doesn't need to sing, but he's so dreamy who really cares? They can't all be triple-threats you know and so I digress and say that I felt the casting was excellent. Julie Walters and Christine Baranski were so much fun and there is no question about the quality of actress Meryl Streep is. Amanda Seyfried really held her own in the movie and is proving to be someone to really keep an eye on. Definitely grab your girlfriends and check this one out!

I had seen the stage show so I knew the story. I was somewhat concerned because I had heard the critics weren't very kind to it, but I loved it. I enjoyed every minute. I was amazed at Meryl Streep's singing. She is wonderful! I was also very pleasantly surprised at what a wonderful job Pierce Brosnan did. I would recomment it enthusiasticly.

What a refreshing movie experience! especially in a season of dark/serious movies. It was such a joy to see actors having fun in a movie that was just plain fun itself. When I heard who some of the actors were I had my share of doubts, but was ready to suspend disbelief, and I am so glad I did! From the beautiful opening to the rousing "rock" credits, I was hooked. Like many of the reviews here, I was thrilled to hear the audience singing along with the movie, and all the enthusiastic clapping as the credits rolled. I have not heard applause at a movie in a very long time. No matter what the critics say, "Mamma Mia!" has become my personal summer blockbuster. JOYOUS!

I've seen the play multiple times, love the music, and like many people have said, was a little concerned about how the movie would turn out. It's absolutely a blast. I saw it last weekend and again this weekend. No, the voices aren't operatic; no, the story isn't brilliantly written literature. But the music is great, the cast looks like they're having a great time, and I couldn't help but smile and practically dance in the aisles watching it. I heartily recommend it.

I absolutely loved this movie. I have seen the musical and loved it. The movie brings everything to life that the stage cannot. I thought Meryl Streep was great and was not a big fan of hers until this movie. I have the CD and have not stopped listening to it. The scenery was absolutely breathtaking. Ok, the 50-something women in the theater really enjoyed this movie. If you're not one of those, you should probably buy an ABBA's Greatest hits CD and see a different movie. Having absolutely no background of the show in mind, I was convinced to watch this instead of another movie at the theatre. Unexpectedly, I feel in love with the story, set design, cast, and soundtrack. I had no idea Meryl Streep was such an amazing singer, and was impressed by the production quality of the audio tracks. Not over-polished, but it matches the rest of the memorable character of the movie. I was so inspired that I bought tickets for my mother and sister at a theatre across the country.

So enjoyed this film. Have seen the play and loved it. I think I enjoyed the movie just as much. The vocals were not as good as the play but it made up for it with the beautiful location and fun filled action. Meryl Streep outdid herself in this film. I had no idea she could sing. I was one of those rare individuals who had not seen the play first on the stage and so I went into this without knowing the plot. It was a great time! I know that some of the cast wouldn't;t list singing as their strength but at least it wasn't dubbed and the ABBA songs really allowed the plot to flow. The performances were filled with joy and the audience was singing with the cast and dancing in the aisles! I'll go again and have it on my list to purchase when it comes out in DVD!

Kick back and relax. The music takes us back in time - I have now seen it twice, each time going with a different friend - you come out singing, dancing and putting the Greek Islands on next summers gotta do list. Some movies are just suppose to be fun, and light. When was the last time you were in an audience that actually clapped and cheered at the end of the show? This movie works for everyone: Great rendition of the Abba songs, beautiful scenery, daring acting by Meryll Streep and the rest of the cast including Pierce Brosnan and the young Amanda Seyfried. I'd say Swedish music, English humor, Greek islands and international acting makes a great cocktail for entertainment.

toe tappin music, acting snappy. Funner if you are over 35 and remember the abba songs when they were new. my wife and I had lots of "oh yeah, I remeber" moments. will go see the play now.

I thought Mama Mia was very well done. Meryl Streep was awesome. THere were a few awkward moments that could have been done away with, but all in all pretty entertaining!! No, Pierce Brosnan can not sing!! The daughter was wonderful.

I've always been a big fan of our gay friends, so it is with love and respect that I say this: Mamma Mia was, without a doubt, the gayest thing I've ever laid eyes on. This movie was a total estrogenfest, and I'll never get "Dancing Queen" out of my head, but I loved it with every fiber of my being. I thought Meryl Streep was very believable as Donna, Pierce Brosnan's singing wasn't *that* bad, and Amanda Seyfried was gorgeous and adorable. Colin Firth is one of my favorite actors, but his performance seemed a little forced and awkward. But that might have been the role. I don't really get subtlety. Also, there were lots of half-naked pretty people. Thank you, directors, for bringing in a little something for the ladies, and the men, but I doubt there will be a lot of straight guys there to enjoy the girls. I know the only way I could get my husband to see this is if I clubbed him, dragged him to the theater, and taped his eyes open while holding a gun to his head. There were parts of the movie that were utterly cringeworthy, but as some other reviewer said, this is a script built around ABBA songs, so don't see this if you hate gratuitous cheese. I'd be lying if I said that I don't plan on buying this DVD the day it comes out. Who am I kidding? I'll probably go see it again in the theater. Oh, and be sure to stick around for the credits. Brilliant. This movie wins.
