I was 15 years old when Raiders first hit the screen and have been going back to see Indy ever since. This movie was really weak in the plot line and dialogue delivery. Shia was a star in this one. Maybe that was the plan- pass the torch on. This is a rental at best.

Finally a good movie worth going to see in theatre's. Good action and an interesting plot. I was sitting next to some small children, and some elderly people; all enjoyed it. It appealed to a total audience. The movie didn't need to use profanity to get a laugh. Everyone I was around walked out smiling. Shia LaBeouf and Harrison Ford were excellent together.

I was very excited to see this movie, as was everyone else who grew up with Dr. Jones and his cohort. There were great scenes and effects, but overall the film was a disappointment. It seemed as though they were merely going through the motions, which at times could be overlooked.
What could not be overlooked was the layer upon layers of cheese. I felt like I was watching NBC produce a Series Finale to one of their Sitcoms.
It's a definite must see for any Indy fan, but I'd wait til it comes out on DVD...or at least a few weeks til the crowds die down.
I wish they'd left well enough alone.

Going into an Indiana Jones movie, I expected some cheesiness.. this movie met and exceeded my expectations. It was lighthearted fun, but still VERY action-packed. There wasn't a dull moment for the entire two hours. I would recommend it, but not to those who want to go in and nit-pick every detail of the movie. There are just too many cheesy (but fun) moments in the movie for a movie-goer like that to enjoy it.
Overall..Indy can do no wrong!

I came into this movie with really high expectations as I am sure many others did. While I am not upset to have paid for tickets for my girlfriend and myself to watch this movie, I didn't feel this movie lived up to the hype and doesn't fit with the other movies. The first three movies all dealt with religious symbolism and the power of God. If the fourth movie is taken to be true, in my mind it invalidates the first three movies. At one point in the movie my GF turned to me and said, "D_ _ _ George Lucas!" That about sums it up. It is obvious that George Lucas had more to do with the script/premise of this movie than in any of the past three. If this wasn't an Indiana Jones movie it would be great. Make it about any other hero type of character and it is fine but with it being about Indiana Jones, it just doesn't fit.

This installment of Indiana Jones stuck with all the elements that made the previous versions so lasting -- not too serious, a good mix of adventure and sci-fi, humor, double-crosses, a nod to the dual life of professor and adventurer, a youth element, a likeable heroine (Marion avoided the silly screaming that was so grating in Temple of Doom's heroine), and a greedy villain willing to do anything to win. An interesting story line and lush scenery round it off. The opening seemed bland at first, but led to an important surprise. It was a fast two hours and wrapped up some good details. There were fun references to '50's culture throughout. Most importantly, the main characters did change over time from the first installment to this one. Neither was pretending to be 20 years old -- I appreciated that!
There is no way to repeat the freshness of the first Indiana Jones -- once you've seen that one you have the main elements that carry forward into the others. This film was a good extension, not a reinvention. I don't think we need reinvention in this series, we just want to see how the adventures evolve. From my perspective, this film does its job well.

I was so excited to see this movie and also nervous to see where Indy was going in this film. The beginning was a little strange with odd audio and it caused me to worry about the rest of the film. However, the rest of the film was brilliant. The humor and dialogue in this film is sharp and done in typical Indy fashion. Some might a problem with the direction of the plot in the movie, but I think it was a brilliant decision to place Indy in this time and show that he is truely a great old school hero. It's amazing to see that Harrison still has the pizzazz and charisma to carry this role. Overall I loved the film and it left me wishing I'd see Indy again in another adventure.

Maybe it's my age (I'm 39 now, and was in my teens when the first three came out), or maybe it's Harrison Ford's age, but while I enjoyed the movie, I still feel hollow inside. Maybe it was the rampant CGI (visually beautiful, but there's something that is missed by actually "being" there). Maybe they should've CGI-enhanced the lines on Ford's face. I kept thinking to myself, "..A guy that age doing that would be laid out with a broken hip..." The story is OK, nothing great, but it seems to be much more of a stretch than any of the others, if you can believe that any of the first three could have any shade of reality. (I will not give any story details. You need to be surprised, and maybe you'll feel different.) Even my 12 yr old son didn't seem blown away, which was most disappointing, since we watched ROLA and TOD on tv a few days ago and his jaw was on the floor. Like I said, it's good, but you may leave wanting a lot more....

Big fan of Indy. Unfortunately this movie didn't give me the wow factor I was looking for. It was enjoyable, but I would NOTgo pay to see it a second time. (Unlike Iron Man)The plot was ok, the alien idea not the best. Maybe George Lucas should use the Force to envoke some more realism in his movies. What happened to the FBI people chasing him, and how did he go from fired teacher, to married assistant dean? Sorry George the first three movies you do of you sagas are great, but after that it seems you want to sell something.

Good movie overall, weird beginning, my son still keeps asking me the point of the beginning and what its connection was to the plot? We enjoyed it because of the characters, but the plot was weaker than previous movies. It was great to see Indy & Marion back together. Shia LeBeouf did a great job!! Cate Blanchett was just pure evil, creepy! Would I go back to see it again? Probably not, I think I'll wait for the DVD for my next viewing of Harrison Ford as Indy.

The story may seem odd for people unfamiliar with the era that the film takes place, but it is perfectly situated. Whereas, WWII was the quest for religious artifacts that possessed supernatural power, the Cold War was a time in which interest in Paranormal studies were peaking. There were several homages to past characters who are no longer with us and the return of a few who we've missed. If you're a fan of the franchise I cannot see how you'd be too disappointed.

this movie was a "whatever happened to..." and an explanation for the unknown thrown in for story support. there was good action scenes. numerous, almost too many, funny scenes. and despite my early skepticism shia labeouf did quite well for his part im not going to give away any spoilers but the ending made it seem like there may be a spinoff to the series however it also indicated, to me anyway, that noone can replace indiana jones. i give this movie 3 out of 5 stars not as good as the others but close

So the attempt to tie in the old Indy mysterious opening scene into this new movie flopped a little. Not so dark and mysterious as it was kinda pathetic. But from there it got better. There were some good memorable scenes, action, and lines. They played the age thing well, and kept the adventure. It was fun to see the 50's setting and the McCarthyism in the background followed by a romp through the Amazon. You just can't touch the first Indy movie, but it was campy and fun. The ending was a little too "out of this world", but in all my family and I really enjoyed it. :-)

Remarkable was the fact that the "Indiana Jones" specific movie was un-altered. A nice flow or action and good action idea. Good and bad antagonism was preserve as in the previous movies. Special effects were a little too cartoonish (even if perfect technicaly), per my liking, so here is the reason for only 3 stars.

Having been a huge fan of the Indiana Jones series and Harrison Ford, I was very disappointed in the script and overall character development. The first 3 films were so engaging and rich with dialogue and over the top action. Poor Karen Allen spends the 2nd half of the movie grinning maniacally and batting her eyelashes. Very different from the quirky, independent Marianne she played in the original outing. I won't even go into John Hurt's portrayal of a warped madman, redeemed at the end. What a waste of a talented actor! Harrison Ford is, as always, charming as the world weary, battered Indy, but even he can't save this movie. Yes, the hype is there, but the movie does not deliver. Do yourself a favor, rent the orirginal 3 and wait for this one to hit DVD.

I loved the original three, recognizing #2 as being a little dark, as we all know. My expectations were very high considering the cast and director, but I came away feeling a little let down. Didn't really want a "remake" of the originals but wanted more out of #4. Karen Allen was a huge disappointment for me; Kate Blanchett was refreshingly evil! Harrison Ford hit the mark although, he is starting to show his age, but hey, he looked pretty great! Shia L. was a nice addition to the brood. Well acted but, oh my god, the plot is utterly ridiculous. Really. You walk out thinking, "After 15+ years, this is the farce they came up with. Are Speilburg and Lucas losing it?"

Indiana Jones used to be fun because it was 'semi-believable' action with characters that you cared about. Maybe the stories were fiction, but for the most part people were not flying or able to withstand a bullet (or nuclear blast). Lucas and Spielberg managed to ruin this franchise by taking away the things that made us love it.
Biggest issues I had: Indy moonlighted as a spy during WWII??? He can survive a nuclear blast in a refriderator? Mutt can swing through the forest with the greatest of ease at 40 mph to keep up with cars and summon monkeys to attack his enemies? Frankly, I was ok with the premise of the movie and who the gods of ancient cultures were, but they even took that too far in the end.
And for Karen Allen... Same actor? Yes. Same character? No. People change as they get older, but that was not Marion. Indy? He is more or less what I expected, but apparently with superhuman strength that can resist nuclear fallout. Mutt? Forgetable. John Hurt's character was fantastic though. One of the few upsides of this movie.
Don't waste your money.

we took our 5 & 6 yr old who love all the other indy movies. we love them also. my children loved the movie. my husband & i thought it was a good movie. thinking that maybe they would make another would be a bad idea. but it was good, great action & same funny lines as the others - not to many just right. good job overall- surprised to see past characters in the new one & where they lead in the new feature.

was it good? sure.
did it feel like an homage movie like the rest of the indian jones movies? no
when you go from movies where they shot mannequins underwater and jello melting to achieve the special effects to all slick computer it looses some of it's warmth, but that is a problem that george lucas always had.
maybe they should've remember what spielberg said about the original one and stuck to it "I made it as a B-movie... I didn't see the film as anything more than a better made version of the Republic serials."
also i hated the prairie dogs. really? we needed that aww cute moment?

A trip to the dentist would be a better use of your 2 hours, and less painful.
Imagine what Star Wars Episode 1 did to the Star Wars empire. Now, double that and you have this movie.
I originally though I couldn't come up with anything positive about this movie, but I was wrong. It made me realize I don't have to wait to get the Indiana Jones DVD box set with all 4 movies.

Action, suspense, romance, and the desire for knowledge. These are all things that I come away from an Indians Jones film with. This time was no exception. Its all here, everything we have come to enjoy about Indiana Jones. While not my favorite entry in the series it is also not the worst. My one criticism is the character called Mac played by Ray Winstone who doesn't really help the movie along, he's just there. He could have been cut out of he film enitrely and all his lines coul have been delivered by another character or simply not delivered at alll. That aside the film was enjoyable and less violent and not too many scary parts in fact I am not sure why this film is rated PG-13. Oh well, welcome back old friend. You've been away far to long.

Considering the fact that I was a HUGE fan of the original Indiana Jones movies, I was really looking forward to this new installment. I could get past the fact that Harrison Ford is now 65 as long as the story stayed true to form. Unfortunately George Lucas, Steven Spielberg, and Harrison Ford make such a sloppy effort with this movie that it was unbearable. If it wasn't for the costume and theme music, you would never be able to tell this was an Indiana Jones movie. It followed more like a cheesy extension of the X Files. Ford does a poor job of getting into the Indiana Jones character to a point where the facial expressions and lines seem forced. It appears Spielberg and Lucas are more focused on making sure the audience knows that the movie takes place in the 1950's then actually developing the story. No, really guys - we get it.
Where is the archeology and history lessons that we grew to love from the first 3 movies?

You definitely get what you expect with this movie. Ford is Indy aged 20 years, Spielberg and Lucas still have an incredulous MacGuffin, and the bad guys never seem to catch the right break at the right time. While this will never go down in the annuls of great movie making, it was great fun to watch on the big screen. I would recommend it for a fun summer event.
