It has been 18 long years waiting for this sequel. The Crystal Skull delivers! 2 decades in Indiana land has changed the dynamic a bit, but the overall Indiness remains the same. I had read a lot of reviews prior to viewing and I think some have been too hard on KCS. It isn't like the other three, but how could it be. Indy is an old man, the Germans are gone, what do you expect? They do keep true to the Indiana Jones formula and the action is awesome. Indy shows he's not too old to get after it. Spielberg, Lucas, and Ford Let's knock out #5 before its too late!

The movie was stocked with the action, special effects, humor and characters one has always found in Indiana Jones movies. One had to suspend disbelief in a major way here, but one was still completely absorbed in the movie from start to finish. This movie, however, had a funny aftertaste. I believe it had such implausible premise that you didn't leave the theatre wondering, for instance, where the Holy Grail was or was there a lost arc? Your thoughts were more along the lines of "Yea, sure". These are clearly among the greatest filmmakers of this generation but one must still craft a plot that in some way matches up with the viewer's sense of reality. I'm afraid this Indiana Jones offering didn't. You ARE left wondering if there will be other Jones movies with Shia Labeouf in the lead role. He did a wonderful job and he's not too old to be credible in later films.

I liked it, but a lot of it felt like homage to the other three as well as other movies too. It was like a mix of National Treasure, The Mummy, Tarzan, and Indiana Jones. Not too terribly original in many respects. Plus the plot seemed like it was just thrown together. But again overall I did like it. I definitely recomend it to Indy fans, but Indy fan's don't need a recomendation. LIke me, they are going to to see it regardless. To newer fans and average movie-goers, I recomend seeing it, but also watching Raiders.

To prepare for this movie I re-watched the trilogy. The Indiana Jones series is what it is. It is a lot of fun to watch and experience. What it is not - realistic. And the great thing is that it doesn't have to be! It's a movie! If you go in wanting to see a historical explanation of archeology then watch the National Geographic channel. If you want to see action in an interesting, if unrealistic, setting. This is your movie.

The new Indiana Jones movie was a great tribute to the series. Very funny at parts, having tid-bits of things from the old movies tying it in nicely and still achieving that great Indy feeling when you are watching it. I would highly recommend the movie to anyone who has enjoyed the previous three movies.

While I have to admit that at first I thought that Shia LaBeouf would bring the movie down, I was pleasantly surprised. He worked out really well.
I also for a second had an issue with the Alien component, however I quickly reminded myself that the Ark, the Thugee Cult and the Holy Grail are about as far fetched.
All in all It was a good time, had the feel and fun of the originals and fit in well with them.
Bring on the next two!

I thought this was a great movie. They certainly kept it in true Indiana Jones style rather than trying too hard to bring it up to today's movies--something that was lost in the "new" Star wars". It was the "campiness" that made these movies great back then and still today.

The plot was excellent for this movie. Acting was great also. Harrison Ford's age had me a little leery at first, but as I got through the movie it wasn't as big of a deal to me. Adding in Shia LaBeouf was a good thing I think. I like him anyways as an actor, but he also brought a young feel to the movie too.
Visual effects were on par with a Steven Spielberg movie. Although the movie at one time gets a little extreme and unbelievable on the waterfall scene. 2 waterfalls and they don't fall out of the car?...Ok I can overlook that for the rest of the movie. This movie didn't have the feel to it like the previous 3, but it was still great entertainment. At 2 hours when the movie ended, I was still craving more Indiana Jones.

Putting aside its clunky title, this latest Indiana Jones movie was a rollicking, high-spirited (and high-minded) and nearly perfect action movie that should have wide appeal. Spielberg and company capitalized on the Baby Boomers' penchant for nostalgia and hit themes which resonate with progressives. I note that two grumpy men in my party complained about the implausibility of the plot, the multiplicity of movie homages, and what they deemed to be over-the-top denouement, but I beg to differ. It was a joy to watch from the beginning to the finish. (There were some nasty bits, but I was blown away by the moviemaking magic involved in creating them). Perhaps the grumpy old men were annoyed, but have yet to realize, that Crystal Skull really is an action-packed chick flick (Indy hits hard and quotes Milton) trapped in the body of an action movie.

I always enjoyed the Indiana Jones movies growing up, especially Raiders of the Lost Ark which when it came out was something "new" in that it was a throw back to the light entertainment adventure serials of my grandmother's day. And I went to see The Crystal Skull out of nostalgia and only out of nostalgia so I had no expectations outside of the fact that I was about to see an Indiana Jones movie, so I was not disappointed. All the elements are there, from bugs, to snakes and Indy's fear of snakes, to booby traps, skeletons and decaying bodies falling on people or being handed to people and of course daring escapes. I had not read much about the film so was surprised by the sci fi element which isn't sci fi at all if one knows a little bit about ancient Mayans. I would give the movie 3 out of 5 stars and would recommend it to friends and family if they liked the Indy movies of the past. I would not recommend it to any pseudo-intellectuals expecting some earth shattering philosophical experience. This movie is an entertainment, not rocket science afterall. It's to help escape which we all need sometimes. I like to think and go to smart and difficult films too, but sometimes it's nice to be taken on a carnival ride.

Ive gotta say...that movie was friken awesome. All the action, and the thought that a hero may grow old, but he will never let up. The touches they added were extremely cool. Plus the new animation of the year 2008 made it unlike any IJ movie before. If the tickets were not so expensive, i would watch it again. The only bad part about the movie was....ABSOLUTELY NOTHING!!!!!!!!~~~

I did enjoy the movie overall, just to start. There definitely were a few parts that I thought were too far fetched, even for an Indiana Jones movie. But those parts were a small portion of the movie.
I don't want to give any spoilers for those that haven't seen it yet. But, I would say about 95% of the movie is classic Indiana Jones, and even feels nostalgic. The other 5% are maybe too much over the top, but in no way ruin the movie. To me its not the unbelievability, it more the style of the unbelievability doesn't fit other Indiana Jones movies....
The true test to me will be how everyone feels a few years down the road after seeing the movie multiple times. Will the things that seem over the top suddenly not seem as such? I would rank this movie as the 3rd best Indiana Jones, with Temple of Doom pulling up into last place.
Definitely see it, and don't let the few over the top moments ruin an otherwise classic Indiana Jones movie.

No sequel will ever be as thrilling as the first Indy Movie. And the chemistry between Harrison Ford and Sean Connery was a magical combination that is rare which made for a superb movie. But I thought Cyrstal Skull was thoroughly enoyable and a very satisfying conclusion to this beloved franchise. I followed the Young Indiana Jones Cronicles faithfully and should they choose to expand this franchise to the next generation using LaBeouf, I would certainly give it a try.

I loved the part when Mutt threw a rat snake at Indy to get him out of the sand... Hahaha! Also, when asked for any last words, Indy said "I like Ike!" hahaha! Only the older ones and the History Buffs would get that one, but it was just perfect for the movie's setting. I'm not one to look for a "RING OF TRUTH" in Indy movies... instead I'm always thinking, "Cool, how do they come up with this stuff?" All the effects were great, except I only need to comment on the crystal skull. It looked like a piece of plastic filled with cellophane paper (like something you can get at a discount store). I wish they spent a little bit more time making the skull look more like crystal...

Let's face it, there will never be another Raiders of the Lost Ark, but the return of Indiana Jones to the big screen is the biggest treat any moviegowers have seen in theaters since "The Last Crusade". The fact that almost the entire gang is back, makes it feel like a family reunion. The plot is just for fun, an excuse to give us almost two hours of pure movie magic, and exciting entertainment!. Thanks George, Steven ,and Harrison for giving us another classic that will live forever and entertain many generations still to come. Do not wait to watch it on your TV, there is nothing like the giant screen experience.

Of course I took my 8 yr old opening weekend. Yep he loved it. But I ran into a grownup friend out at the popcorn midfilm who said "I am soooo bored" -- which just about sums it up. For a sentient adult it was like being trapped in a videogame, much like National Treasure 2: both plots depend on advanced civilizations who for some reason excelled at massive stone-based hide-the-treasure technology. Guess you don't need to oil the mechanism over the centuries. The Spielberg "magic" felt awfully creaky despite the game efforts of the cast. And why why so many cobwebs? Yale has never looked better though!

We enjoyed this movie, but all agreed (even kids) that they "jumped the shark" with this one. The movie would have been just as good without the excessive plot twists that did little to advance the story line: Indiana Jones surviving a nuclear blast in a refridgerator, Shia LeBeouf navigating the jungles by swinging on vines like George of the Jungle. The Indiana Jones series has always required its audience to suspend disbelief for the sake of keeping the action going, but this one just went a couple of steps too far.

Great fun, nonstop action, kept me on the edge of my seat. I appreciated all of the elements, characters, underlying themes and the adventure. The 50's theme was fun, too. There was a little bit of ET, some Close Encounters of The Third Kind . All of it was wonderful. It should "launch a thousand ships" of discussion (nukes, communism, extra-terrestrials, Peru, etc.) between parents and children, grandparents and grandchildren. So, I'd suggest you all go together!
