Nostalgia and all the usual Indiana Jones elements

I always enjoyed the Indiana Jones movies growing up, especially Raiders of the Lost Ark which when it came out was something "new" in that it was a throw back to the light entertainment adventure serials of my grandmother's day. And I went to see The Crystal Skull out of nostalgia and only out of nostalgia so I had no expectations outside of the fact that I was about to see an Indiana Jones movie, so I was not disappointed. All the elements are there, from bugs, to snakes and Indy's fear of snakes, to booby traps, skeletons and decaying bodies falling on people or being handed to people and of course daring escapes. I had not read much about the film so was surprised by the sci fi element which isn't sci fi at all if one knows a little bit about ancient Mayans. I would give the movie 3 out of 5 stars and would recommend it to friends and family if they liked the Indy movies of the past. I would not recommend it to any pseudo-intellectuals expecting some earth shattering philosophical experience. This movie is an entertainment, not rocket science afterall. It's to help escape which we all need sometimes. I like to think and go to smart and difficult films too, but sometimes it's nice to be taken on a carnival ride.
