I enjoyed the movie and the flash of colors and excitement. The action of the races and the fight scenes were great!
Now for the reason for two stars: There was one drawback to the movie and that was due to there being too much swearing, and even a hand gesture or two. For a family oriented movie, I don't believe that these tools are needed to be a good movie.
While looking at the movie there were many children present and when the "Bird" was flashed by one of the young characters, it created a "ooooo" to come over the audience. One father was telling his child who was asking what that meant, "Don't worry about it" for 5 min.
The movie was great, but the use of profanity should have been left out. It help the movie any but hurt it in my eyes. I can't believe that as a society we can't steer free of desensitizing out youth.

The movie was Great! Very entertaining and fast paced. . .no time to be bored. After saying that I would like to share the down side: the plot could have been explained better and in an easier way, especially for kids. The foul language isn't necessary!! I was lucky to be the only person in the theater for the first showing of the day. I enjoyed it. It was a fun movie to go see and relax for a while. I would recommend this for the shear fun of it all.

This movie was unlike anything I've ever seen before! The look and feel were totally unique. One technique frequently used was a layering of close-ups and long shots, which gave the movie a continuing sense of motion. I took my two daughters (aged 7½ and 10) and they absolutely loved it, too. There were a few objectionable words and Speed's kid brother makes an obscene gesture. The violence is mostly cartoonish. But despite all the car crashes and gun battles, our body count was zero.

I was not into the Speed Racer series overall, though I had seen a few eps. However, I love Anime, and I love the team doing this film, so I couldn't wait to see what they did with it. I thought it was absolutely fantastic action, the CGI and human characters blended seamlessly and overall it was great. My only complaints would have been some of the truly hokey/annoying stuff with the Spritle (sp?) and the chimp...could really do without some of that stupidity and the movie would seem better by far to me. I really hope to see an even better sequel come out!! I'd love to see how they top this one!

I saw the Speed Racer Movie tonight and I personally loved it. The race tracks were wild like the ones in the anime, and I think everyone that was involved in making this movie did a great job. There were exciting moments, sweet moments, and parts that just made me really crack up (Pops kicked butt). I highly recommend seeing it. Also, any Speed and Trixie fans are going to love it. Unlike the anime (that I still love) where I craved more of Speed and Trixie's relationship, in the movie we find out when and how the two met. Also, Speed doesn't have a wondering eye like he does in the anime, or at least I didn't catch it. The first scene with them in the Mach 5, I couldn't believe some of the things Trixie was saying to Speed, but it was over my little one's head, and I couldn't help but smile.

If you are a true Speed Racer fan then you will LOVE this adaptation. I am still overwhelmed with nostalgia. Casting was flawless and they stuck to the original campiness and excitement I recall. The Mach 5 is still the coolest car ever made! Two BIG THUMBS UP! Magnificent special effects. I so wanted to push a button on my steering wheel and jump a few cars on the ride home!!

Here's a little more:
I was transported back to my kindergarten-aged self as I watched and was thoroughly engaged by this film. I think the anime-inspired storytelling was spot on. The visuals were kind of like a turbocharged Dr. Suess world. The drama wasn't completely unlike an after school special. Christina Ricci looks the most anime of any character in this film. Are her eyes digitally enhanced? These Wachowski brothers have extraordinary imagination and talent. I don't think this film needs a sequel, but I'd love to see more of this kind of cinematic storytelling.

Im a huge Speed Racer fan, (Heck, I even dressed up like Speed Racer to see the midnight showing, homemade costume with the helmet and everything!) and I was not dissapointed one bit. This movie stays true to the fans, even with its sci-fi new element. There are parts when I squealed like a little fanboy because of the little knick knacks they threw in. And youre probably thinking, "But he knows about the show, and I dont, so I wont appreciate this movie as much", that is an utterly false statement. I saw this movie with three of my friends, two of which are into anime but have never touched Speed Racer, and one thats completely out of anything involving cartoons. They all loved the movie! Its much like any origin story for any super hero movie thats come out, (ie: Iron Man, Spider Man, etc), and equally "dorky" if you choose to look at it like that. "But Iron Man was awesome! Its not dorky at all", youre probably thinking, well thats my point exactly. YOU ARE NOT A NERD FOR SEEING THIS MOVIE! One of the biggest gripes I had was the fact that I went to the midnight showing and was one of the 20 people that showed up. My theory is people are avoiding Speed Racer because they think its a childish, nerd fest with no substance. That is also a false statement. Not only does this movie REALLY push its PG rating (expect some fowl language, mainly the a-word, but the s-bomb is tossed in as well!), but its got more story than most movies released recently, as well as more heart. And not only that, if you have no interest in story and just wanna see some really awesome action, this movie has better action than Iron Man did, and I loved that movie as well. The visuals are (not only extremely colorful) but very awesome to watch, simply breathtaking in some moments. And, exactly what I expected from the Watchowski Brothers, awesome fight and gunplay scenes, as well as the highlight of the movie, the Races. This isnt your dad's Nascar! This is cars flipping and battling and duking it out for the finish line no matter what the cost! Be it cheating or illegal weapon mods, the races are a no holds barred fun fest. In the end, Speed Racer made this fan really happy, as well as an audience not accustomed to the japanese cartoon of yesteryear. Amazing, and Im going to go see it again.

I'll admit it. I'm a movie snob. Nearly my entire film collection comprises movies made before 1960, and my TiVo is full of films from Turner Classic movies. I usually hate movies like this: the loud colors, frequent explosions, feel-good dialogue, and inclusion of an animal "actor" should have left me running away from the theater screaming. But they didn't. In fact, 'Speed Racer' was some of the most fun I've had at the movies in years. Anyone not intent on disliking the film can see the color choices are intentional, since the film is literally a huge cartoon. In fact, the movie's strength is that the humans blend seamlessly into their environments, as opposed to other SFX extravaganzas in which the CGI elements stand out jarringly (e.g. the Star Wars prequels). Other critics have blasted the actors for not standing out enough. I disagree, and suspect that those critics were complaining because they were still preoccupied with the colors, and wanted to complain about whatever they could. Finally, some have accused this movie of a 'ridiculously thin plot' that the viewer 'won't care about anyway.' This reveals a flaw common to modern movie critics: they can't accept when a movie is simply meant to be fun. 'Speed Racer' is essentially a giant cartoon, and its plot is perfect because it doesn't take itself too seriously. The movie isn't campy, but it's also not overreaching its own bounds to be falsely great; 'Speed Racer' makes last year's SFX bonanza, 'Transformers,' look bloated and silly. The actors are pitch-perfect; the plot is much better than other cartoon adaptations; the visuals, cutting edge and thrillingly atmospheric. Critics have been wrong about other films, including 'Fantasia,' 'The Wizard of Oz,' 'Jaws,' and 'Dr. Strangelove.' I won't pretend that "Speed Racer" is a great movie like those; but it, like those classics, is simply ahead of its time.

Kinetic and gorgeous, dizzyingly energetic and absolutely enjoyable, Speed Racer is a summer "flash" movie that makes art out of the otherwise forgettable summer movie experience. There's nothing here that qualifies as great cinematic filmmaking, but for sheer adrenaline and unparalleled high-octane fun, this movie is Oscar material.

I had heard a lot of bad hype about this movie. Everyone I talked to seemed like they could care less. I decided to drop the $9 and see the movie because I used to watch the cartoon when I was younger. I expected the special effects to be top notch, what with universal light and sound being on there, and I was not disappointed. The acting was better than I had expected as well. Some had said "Yah, but they got that guy playing speed, I ain't gunna see it!" and my reply to them now is "Yah, well you missed out!" If you haven't seen this yet, why are you still reading this? Go out, buy yourself a ticket, and go see the best movie so far this year!
