I enjoyed the movie, "Eat Pray Love," very much! Before I begin, I just bought the book on Friday, August 13 and started reading it but the previews up to the opening day made me long for this movie. I could not wait! This movie was like a mirror of my life. I feel like the character and I just don't know what to say or how to feel and the people that I encounter seem to have all the answers. This movie was so real because women, when a woman is going through some emotional junk and how women usually react, especially when she is just not satisfied with what life has been dishing out. Going somewhere else makes for the adventures in this movie and the encounters that she makes are so real. The supporting characters/actors were strong in this movie and this was just not a Julia Roberts flick; it was an everyone who acted in this flick flick.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

The beginning and end were good but the entire middle is pretty much watching her go on vacation. I went with a friend who read the book and she said that the movie doesn't explain any of the characters like the book does and she could follow it because she read the book. As someone who hasn't read it, I would rent it if I hadn't seen it already.

Great performance by Julia & fantastic cinematography! Each character was so deliciously defined. However, I should have brought tissues for the emotional tug-of-war this film gives the audience! I'll see it again next weekend when I take my mother-in-law.

I read the book a few years ago and loved it. I had forgotten a lot of the details, so watching the movie now was a nice way to revisit the story line. Julia Roberts did a great job, and the scenes were beautiful and poignant. It's hard to depict a book in a movie, but it was well done. Worth seeing!

I dragged my hubby to this movie. After about 1 hour I realized I made a huge mistake..so I thought. Enjoyed the travel log totally. I so understood her feelings about leaving her marriage to find herself. Brave and sad at the very least. My hubby and I both enjoy Julia Roberts, in most movies. She didn't disappoint us. Although there wasn't a lot of acting throughout this movie. It was long movie. There is so much meditation you can watch before becoming bored.
If you have ever traveled to any of the places shone in this movie, and even if you haven't, it will make you want to go.
To get back to dragging my hubby to the movies, it was worth watching him being bored after an hour. Today I found out he really got the movie. He called me from work with tears in his eyes, and said I love and miss you. Please don't ever leave me to find you.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

I am one of the few humans on the planet who has NOT read the book. I suspect that reading this is somewhat more meaningful than seeing it on the "big screen".
That said, who doesn't simply love to see and watch Julia Roberts doing anything? She is wonderful in this role. In fact, the movie was extremely well cast on every level. The cinematography was gorgeous...the dialogue was real...I'm not sure any facet of the movie could have been done better. However: it wasn't a great movie. It was a "good" movie.
The journey of self discovery is one that is personal to each of us. Maybe Julia is simply too beautiful to have played this role. Either that, or I am too shallow!
I'd give Eat, Pray, Love a 6 or 7 and STILL recommend that you see it!

I love Julia and James Franco, they are great actors… Love the way the movie take its course, you can actually identify yourself with the story, how many times we are looking for something else, how many times we have committed to something that we are not sure it is what we want.. It is just human nature. The message Live, Laugh, Love to the fullest, it is OK to make mistakes, it is ok to learned and continue with your life, it is Ok to get crazy and do things you never expected to do, to try, or taste, or love.
We are a magical temple, we are centralizing in God, we are God, we are part of everything, and we are ONE. It is just about finding ourselves and be happy with whatever it is that we have, because at the end of the day things can change and chances are the opportunity we been waiting will take its time to come back again.

This movie was very good and definitely met many of my (high) expectations. The cinematography was excellent, the dialogue was inspiring, and the scenes from Italy and Bali were beautiful. I wish that the director and producers had spent more time on India, but I suppose that meditation can only be filmed for so long before viewers will become bored.
There were a great many important details from the book that were left out of the movie that I felt would have helped explain the story better, but I guess that's why everyone always says, "The book is far better than the movie." It's the truth. This movie is still worth seeing even if you haven't read the book.

Overall good chick movie to enjoy with girlfriends. Love the travel, culture differences, but seems like this woman grew up with alot of privilege and never knew herself outside of boyfriends and relationships. She seems to even have men attracted to her while she was trying to discover herself, and the meaning to life. Most real women don't jump from one relationship to another, or have men flocking to them all the time. I found her a little self absorbed. I would still recommend this movie, but husbands would be bored.

In all fairness, I have not (yet) read the book, but I totally and completely enjoyed this movie. Excellent acting that drew you right into each character's persona and made you want to root for every one of them. The cinematography is breathtaking and the movie kept me waiting to see what would happen next. I am going out this afternoon to get the book and can't wait to read it.

This movie WILL inspire you. But you might also end up leaving your marriage if you are TOO inspired.
While I understand that this is a true story, I just couldn't reconcile the celebration of her ditching her husband - who by the way, begs her to "find herself" while reaining IN the marriage. It's heartbreaking to watch. Everything that he says and asks of her is what SHOULD be expected from someone who committed to living their life together with another for LIFE. (we assume that means changing and growing without bailing.)
The way she handled leaving him made their committment seem so unimportant in the scheme of her finding herself. However, her guilt DID seem important and the dialog about her trying to make herself feel better was just...sad.
However, this movie did do what I expected...
Made me:
1) want to travel (to Italy and Paris, at least)
2) want to marvel at something
3) want to be as skinny as Julia is so that when I go on the "no carb left behind" experiment, I'm still only buying a size 6 jeans. (ridiculous).
Without *spoiling* the end...I will say that I found myself really wanting the story NOT to end where it did. It seems so cliche.
Then the girl next to me told me that there was a second book that continued the story.
Ok, so I'll see the next movie.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

It is definitely a chick flick. What I enjoyed most was seeing the locations, especially Bali, and seeing Javier. (Although I am not sure if I could take much more of his calling people "Darling.") I was happy to see that Julia did not rely as much on her smile as she has in so many other films.

Good movie, but needed more depth... after having read the book two years ago, I thought my memory would be foggy, but I remember the angst and emotional torture and turmoil the main character (played by Julia Roberts) went through in the book... way more painful than what was portrayed in the movie. In the movie her divorce comes across as an uncomfortable situation, but you don't really get to experience the pain she went through... it was rushed... and you needed to feel that in order to really understand why she takes a year off to find herself. So it almost feels like she just gets a divorce and decides to go on 3 vacations back-to-back... However, Julia Roberts is a great actress, so it still is a good movie... and the guys were so georgeous to look at!! A+ for casting, too, as all the characters looked exactly like I imagined they would look when I read the book. And the scenic shots are spectacular. The food looked amazingly good... I almost fell in love with the food just like the character did in Italy. Now I want to move there! :-)

Julia Roberts can carry a movie even it's as long and disjointed as Eat Pray Love. With great, all too brief support from Richard Jenkins there are some really bright spots. At other times, I was bored and impatient for all to be over. The point of view was muddled but, mainly, I didn't really care what happened to our heroine.
