It's Julia Roberts...of course you'll go!

I am one of the few humans on the planet who has NOT read the book. I suspect that reading this is somewhat more meaningful than seeing it on the "big screen".
That said, who doesn't simply love to see and watch Julia Roberts doing anything? She is wonderful in this role. In fact, the movie was extremely well cast on every level. The cinematography was gorgeous...the dialogue was real...I'm not sure any facet of the movie could have been done better. However: it wasn't a great movie. It was a "good" movie.
The journey of self discovery is one that is personal to each of us. Maybe Julia is simply too beautiful to have played this role. Either that, or I am too shallow!
I'd give Eat, Pray, Love a 6 or 7 and STILL recommend that you see it!
Yes, I recommend this movie.

Great Summer Film

Any movie with Sandra Bullock starring in a comedy makes me laugh before I arrive at the theatre. Add the absolutely adorable Ryan Reynolds to the film and a perfect supporting cast and this movie has little chance of failure.
Sandra once again shows perfect timing in her role as a tightly wound, over-the-top, professional book editor who strikes fear in the hearts of every person in her building, let alone her office.
The cast couldn't be better; the dialogue witty and quick; the scenery magnificent; the music perfect and the laughter unending.
This is a perfect date movie or chick flick. Take your pick!! I loved it.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

Don't wear your watch...

I suggest you not wear a watch to this film as you will be so frustrated that you can't see the time and then you won't know how much longer you need to sit there!
I loved the whole series of books by this author, but the movie: NOT so much!
Although the acting is fine, (has Tom Hanks ever made a bad movie?) the movie is slow, plodding, fairly predictable and if you HAVE read the book, don't even see the movie. Let the images and excitement of the written page stay with you rather than having to slog through a long movie that has none of the excitement, anticipation, intrigue or visual effects that you have imagined while reading.
In short: Don't waste your time or your money on this one!
No, I do not recommend this movie.

Complex and Haunting

Although there are a few comic moments in this film, this is most definitely NOT a comedy. This is a powerful, emotional, haunting movie that was cast pefectly and shot in a way that brings the viewer right to the party. We are sitting at the table, on the sofa, in the room with these characters. Every emotion is displayed so perfectly that the lift of an eyebrow or the pause between words is meaningful. It is a stunning film so complex that it is worth a second or third viewing just to recognize all the nuances there are to savor. Anne Hathaway: unbelievable. Debra Winger: amazing. Don't miss this film. It will take your breath away. But do NOT go if you are looking for a light comedy some Saturday night. Not even close!
Yes, I recommend this movie.

Flash of Genius

Brilliant character study as Greg Kinnear delivers a magnificent performance within a movie that is simply too long.
The viewer sees the slow and painful disintegration of a man and how that affects everyone in his life, especially his family. A good man seeking the "right thing"...a man who can't see the forest for the trees, but prevails in the end. But to what end?
If you are a Greg Kinnear fan and you love a stellar performance, you will not be disappointed with this film. If you want to be "entertained" for 2 hours, see another one!
Yes, I recommend this movie.

Entertaining and witty with some very funny as well as tender moments. You will laugh out loud and shed a few tears. This won't win any Academy Awards, but you won't be sorry you went and you leave feeling good. Performances are wonderful by all! See it and enjoy your evening.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

Pretty Good

Jack Nicholson and Morgan Freeman were wonderful with what they had to work with.
The trailers for this movie lead you to think it is a comedy - and there are comedic moments. However, those moments are sprinkled within a story about dying from cancer and the ugliness cancer provides.
This movie is about a 3 star movie because of the wonderful actors in these roles. If anyone else were to have played them, i think it would have been a "2".
Yes, I recommend this movie.
