The special effects were amazing and compelling. The story line missed many links if you had not read the book. I didn't but my husband filled me in on details that would have enhanced the movie. Recommendation - read the book THEN see the movie.

I am not a HP fan, I have never read any of the books so I guess in that way I look at the movie for what it is a movie, not a adaptation from a book which we all know never matches our reading. I believe the movie was well done, in the age where you are compared to the comic movies and other higher grossing cinea, this movie gave you just what you needed to see. The story line flows very well and when called upon the action and comedy reach the needed levels of what you want for 2 1/2 hr's. You will be pleased with this movie and it will satisfy you in your movie thirst, now as for the book lovers it might not follow to the T, but this is part 6 and even George Lucas knew when to quit. Overall I give this a 5 out of 5. Enjoy

Being a huge Harry Potter fan, I could not wait to see this film - it is long over due! However, I feel the film let us fans down. Crucial points of this installment were missing. My biggest disappointment was the Harry/Dumbledore relationship. It seemed to by downplayed. The movie hardly touched on the fact that Harry came to accept the fact HE was the chosen one and might have to die in the future to rid the wizard world of Lord Voldemort. It seems Dumbledore and Harry had a deeper relationship in the book. Then the whole Dumbledore ending was not done even as close to touching/beautiful as it could have been. Some of the added scenes were totally irrelevant to the story. Storylines were created for what purpose??

Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince is simply spectacular. The visual effects are incredible and the action sequences are trilling.
Alan Rickman and Tom Felton are both given more significant roles in this film. Alan Rickman, as usual, turns in a solid performance as Severus Snape, deftly layering deep emotional complexity under the usual surliness. Tom Felton is stunning as Draco Malfoy. He brilliantly portrays his character's internal conflict at the unenviable task that he has been assigned.
This movie is well adapted from the book that inspired it. All the important plot points are represented in a well paced manner that keeps the action going.

The movie was fantastic. Regardless of the plot changes (obviously some things were cut out...and several things were altered and changed to make the movie understandable to non-readers and also to set up for the 7th/8th films) the effects were SPECTACULAR. There is a bit more emphasis on the love connections between characters, maybe even more than the book suggests, but that's fine and adds to the overall mood of the film. Watching this, I felt like it was one of my favorite movies of all time and I can't wait to see it again!

While the acting was excellent, I was disappointed with the script. Many scenes in the book that I considered crucial were left out, and I was left wondering why a few particular scenes were added in. I'm a huge fan of the books, so I would still recommend the film to others. However, I would have preferred sitting through a four hour movie that stayed true to the book.

As she went on in her series, J.K. Rowling packed a lot of plot into her books...too much to have everything make the cut. Along with that, to make the movies fluid, the screenwriter would have to write fillers to keep the main plot moving...especially with so many subplots cut.
With that said, I think that they did a good job. The set and cinematography were outstanding. The acting has come a long way for a group that started out as small children, and have grown into their young adulthood. Their talent has definately grown over the years.
So sit back and enjoy it not as a stand along (for none of the HP movies stand alone in the series) but as a bridge to move the plot towards the action of the final installments.

This movie is definitely a lot better than the other Harry Potter movies. The effects are amazing and unless you're a die-hard Harry Potter fan you won't really even notice the parts of the book that weren't there. you can definitely see the characters developing, along with their hormones. The acting was great, the best I've seen so far, but I think that the ending could have been better. The battle at the end and Dumbledore's funeral were both sorely missed.

It was Great. The actors have really mastered becoming these magical characters.
I am a big book fan however and wish that they followed a little closer to the book. (I am aware that the movie would have been four hours long if they did.) But I gladly would have sat there another hour or two. It was fabulous.
I laughed, I cried (really I did). I will probably see it another three times in the theatre.

The movie was very fast-paced and exciting - I was on the edge of my seat and fidgeting with excitement and anticipation throughout the majority of the movie. I didn't like how open-ended the ending was, but I suppose it left us wanting more. For Harry Potter enthusiasts, this movie is a must see. However, screen writers took very liberal privaleges with the movie's content from the original book, like melding several parts and completely omitting other crucial ones like Voldamort's family history and the battle with death eaters at the end. I hope they try to include most of the last book's details in the final movie, even if it means the movie is 3 hr.s long. Go see it and add it to your collection when it comes out on dvd.

One star lost for loss of content. I agree with some viewers that some serious story lines are missing. However, if you judge the film by itself it is fantastic. A movie is a different animal than a book and the powers that be have to decide what will translate best onscreen. Everything cinematic has improved, acting, special effects, etc. The action is non-stop and riveting. Tom Felton did a beautiful job portraying Draco in his desperation and you could really sense how heartsick he was. I will definitely be seeing this again (at least once).

This was my favorite of the whole series of movies, and it was definitely not my favorite book. The movie hilighted great action and intrigue out of Half Blood Prince, which contains a lot of setup for the final book. The mood and visuals in HBP was stunning. My only complaint is that it was toned down to appeal to the younger fans. This would have been an opportunity to create an even darker and more interesting film. Overall I enjoyed it a lot!

On the whole, I did like the movie, but was disappointed with the content that was omitted. I feel the Tom Riddle memories should have been included to understand more. I also would have liked to see the fight scene at the school and Dumbledore's funeral. I feel there was more that enough teenage love and snogging and not enough magic in this one... I certainly hope the last 2 follow the book a little more closely.

The most disappointing film of the 6 based on the inconsistencies with the book - understand the need to reduce details for the sake of a film, but with all the important back-story required for the 7th film, why sacrifice time/money putting in story that didn't exist? Leaving out Dumbledore's Army battling death eaters at Hogwarts - unbelieveable! Did I read the right book? Because that movie wasn't "The Half-Blood Prince" I read. I remember the book being about Voldemort! This movie was ALL about teenage angst and puppy love! My Husband has not read the books, and I ended up having to explain everything they left out b/c he was confused as to what this movie was about! Very disappointed after waiting so long for what I thought would be an illustration of J.K. Rowling's brilliant writing. A complete waste of what could have been THE best movie yet, as this book was so powerful and full of insight into who Tom Riddle was and WHY he became who he is....that was barely addressed! I was so bummed out abou tthis movie. It was so anti-climactic. They left out the major fight scene that leads you into the next movie. Overall it was a good movie leading up to the series end. However, the most dissapointing part was the end. I hate it that there was no battle between the students and the Order, versus the Death Eaters. And I don't understand how you could leave out Dumbledore's funeral at the end. It wuld of made a great ending. It doesn't follow the book as closely as the others but still a great movie I would recommend for anybody.

Boring. That's all I can say. Set up movie for next films which should be good. Way too long and worst of the movies thus far. Comedic elements were nice change of pace but overall, action was limited. Book was much better. Obviously it is difficult to condense the book into a 3 hour movie, but other movies did a very good job of that. This one didn't. I guess you have to see it if you're a fan and plan on seeing the next two films, just don't go in there expecting much. Bummer. My son and I waited with such anticipation for this film. Big let down.

I really enjoyed the movie, it kept the closest to the actual story. While I would have like to have seen more regarding the gnomes and the love relationships (and where was Percy), it was still very good.

I knew the books were better than the movies, but this one didn't even come close. Someone's ego and artistic license got in the way of what could have been a great movie. Too many significant parts of the story were left out. Sections were changed so much that there was no resemblance to the past or future HP storyline. I'm wondering if they held back parts to create "flashbacks" in the next 2 and final movies. If so, they've run the risk of losing fan interest by producing such a disappointing movie. I won't bother going to the theater again, I'll just rent the movie for the next two. I hope they don't wait another year! Shame on the producers, director, writers and studio for taking great material and creating such a mediocre film.

After arriving home after seeing the movie with his dad, my son's response was that it was just OK. He said that much was left out and things were added that were never in the book at all. And although the book was his favorite, the movie was his least favorite. My husband, having not read the book, enjoyed it more than my son.

I enjoyed the fact that the movie was dark, but disappointed that there was such creative license taken. I understand it is hard to fit an enitre book in 2 1/2 hours and do it justice, but this is by far the worst HP out of the series. Hopefully the next movie will fair better.
