I am one of those people that read the book before the movie. Usually, I see the movie before reading the book.
I can now understand how absences of scenes can prevent a person that has read in advance from fully enjoying the movie.
As for the movie, I felt like for the scenes that were selected, i.e. the Orphanage & Cave scenes, it did a great job! Overall, I was pleased with the movie, but definitely reccommend reading the book to fill in the awesome workings of J.K. Rowling!

For the length of the book they seemed to catch all of the main important areas in the short span of 2 hr 33 min. I thought it was an excellent adaptation of the book. The acting was superb (as always) by all the characters. Ron's love lorn look was awesome and we finally got to see Draco at his finest.

The 6th Harry Potter film was a good way to spend your evening. It followed the overall feel of the book and contained enough of the story plots to continue the viewer through the time line.
Honestly, the 6th book is not one of my favorites. It seems to repeat a theme with the textbook (Tom Riddle's Diary) and has no one main idea for this installment of the series.
The movie is similar with the advantage of being visual. It is a visually stunning film. This made the movie better than the book in my opinion.

It was good if you like harry Potter movies. Definitely the least entertaining one so far. Hard a hard time connecting emotionally to this one. I found I was bored at times. Hopefully the next one will be better. Still worth seeing tho.

Not having read the books, I enjoyed this movie very much however it is slower than the other movies. I loved how the characters are starting to notice each other and develop feelings for each other. The trailers were also a special treat too, the New Moon trailer was the last one and even took me by surprise! Take everyone to see this one, you will be begging for more!!!!!

Bad editing job on this movie. I get it that the audience needs to know that Ron and Hermione and Harry and Ginny end up together in the end, but to make the entire movie about it...what a waste! I must say I was disappointed. For having pushed back the release date, I was hoping there was a real reason for it other than money. I expected much more than WB delivered here.
The Harry/Ginny thing was glossed over, the kiss anticlimatic. The Ron/Hermione situation was well-done and most of the Ron scenes were funny. Acting superb, script...not so much. 7/10.

Since I have no time to read the books my review is of the movie only. I was very surprised at the PG rating for this movie. I had an idea how dark the general state of the movie would be. However, since we took our 10 year old son with us, even he would not recomend it to anyone younger than him.
Terrific movie though! Now I understand why my wife was so excited for the last book to be released. I am hoping that the last book will be made into two movies. I do not want anything left out.

David Yates and Steve Kloves have done a great job of bringing Ms. Rowling's book to life. There were several scenes which I felt I'd seen before because they were portrayed exactly as I'd pictured the scenes when I read the book. However, there were some serious cuts made to portions of the story-line: The importance of the scenes involving Greyrir Fenback will be lost on anyone who hasn't read the books. I was also looking very forward to seeing Mr. Yates' interpretation of The Order vs. Death Eater's fight in the tower and was very disappointed when it didn't happen. Those who have never read the book will enjoy the movie, though, and I will recommend it to friends. :)

I loved the movie. It was beautifully done. I gave it 4 stars because my husband wanted to see more fighting or action in it but not much happened. Then again, this book was more about romance than the others so that's what I was expecting. I will see it again...but my husband probably wouldn't :-P

Great movie -- but don't sit there and compare it to the book because it will drive you nuts. Yes, there are additions and changes but if you just go and enjoy the movie, you'll love it. Lots of action, lots of comedy, typical teenage angst. Could there have been more action? Absolutely. But it's still a great movie and other Potter fans like me will go see it again and watch it a million times on dvd.

This movie is really good - with action scenes and a bit of romance, it gave us some insight into our main characters feelings and some into Tom Riddle's past. However, it really felt like "a piece in the middle" between 5 and 7 and not a film on it's own. I was also disappointed that we saw so little of so many characters and the movie was just about Harry, Hermione, Ron and Dumbledore. I was happy to see it but left wanting something more.

The movie was good. From the beginning to the middle it was pretty funny. The more serious parts were pretty intense. My only complaint is that the very beginning made no sense to me what so ever. It looked as though they were going to cut to a scene and write "24 hours earlier" on the bottom. But overall, a good movie!

This movie was horrible. The end of Order of the Phoenix had a brilliant battle between Dumbledore and Voldemort, showing their use of high level majic to do battle. With HBP, I was expecting an even more dramatic battle to end this glorious movie........boy was I let down. I left the theater severely upset due to the complete lack of a big ending. I mean, come on......the biggest and most powerful wizard up to this point is slain, and there isn't even a battle between the death eaters and Dumbledore's friends? Had I known this was how the movie was going to end, I would haven't wasted my money. This movie was more of a "how to fall in love" as a teenager movie than it was about the Harry Potter plot.

It was technically well done, the lighting and effects were all fantastic, but I was disappointed by how it strayed from the books. Many scenes were missing, others were changed (not for the better), and some were just completely made up.
In order to make the 2.5 hours, and the PG rating, it seemed horribly rushed and just skimmed over some parts that really should have been looked over deeper. One thing I have to say was done really well though was Draco's mission - I really enjoyed how well they brought a more human aspect to his character through the entire movie with his little forays into the Room of Requirement, his interactions with Snape, and at the top of the tower.

My initial reaction was that this movie was phenomenal and i actually went to see it a second time. the things that were left out of the movie did disappoint to an extent (Bill; Tonks/Lupin problems/Gaunt house + the hufflepuff cup memories/Elieen Prince)but not everything can be added. Hence that last book = 2 movies, everything that is plot relevant (Tonks/Lupin fighting/Elieen Prince DONT fit in here!) will be re-added into the films. The film was meant to show about horcruxes, how he made 7, and how Draco is forced into service and cant do it,and it did just that the battle scene was not necessary seeing as the 7th book is mainly fighting.. I am an avid book fan first and foremost, but i do not believe that this movie was bad at all.

You definitely have to have been a fan of the books (or first few movies) to understand what was happening in this film. However, if you are not into the Harry Potter series, one may still enjoy this movie for its use of creative technologies. I felt as though the imagery I created when reading the book was put into this movie. Every scene was exactly (if not better then) the way I imagined it. This is the sixth installment with one more on the way - I cannot wait to see what they do next!

This was an exciting and enjoyable movie. If you are a book purist, you might miss some of the subplots of the book (as mentioned in other reviews.) It had been a while since I read HPATHBP, so I didn't realize I missed these scenes until I read the other reviews. The final fight in Hogwarts would have made the movie a bit better.

I looked forward to this latest Harry Potter movie. I was glad to see a modern sort of grungy look to the cinematography. But that was about the only good thing to me.
It just seemed to me like the movie never got started. Maybe that is because it is the same movie as all the other one's with the addition of some teen angst. In fact the more I think about it, with the exception of the teen stuff, I can't recall any thing we haven't seen before.
I would have left half way through, but I thought my wife was enjoying it. Turns out she didn't like it either. She wouldn't have left but also found it incredibly boring.

I thought this as a great show! The actors are finally acting, the dramatic parts weren't cheesy, (except for one little part, but come on, they're teenagers) It had some really funny things going on, the"bad guys" were well played, and Slughorn and Tom Riddle were great! I loved all the cutesy relationship humor as well. I just thought it was a really good show! I think it's the most well done of all of the Harry Potter movies. Ok, so it doesn't follow the book. When does ANY movie follow a book word for word? They HAVE to leave stuff out, come one! It's a great movie. I really liked it.

Basically a teen-coming of age plot in a Harry Potter setting. No new magic here, nothing really thrilling that makes this a Harry Potter movie at all. The death eaters barely exercised their tyranny despite multiple opportunities to do so and there was no climax to the movie at all. Hermione was a completely lame duck in this movie. Very disappointing and I would give this one a miss.
No, I do not recommend this movie.

I have always been a big fan of Harry Potter. Every time a new movie comes out I am first in line to see it. HP6 was wonderful and awesome.

I believe this movie to be an excellent movie for what I saw. There were 4 preteens that thought they needed to get up at least 7 times during the movie and then play texting during the rest of the movie. The ultra screen really was great. The opening scene were they were flying through town gave the stomach a flip or two, lol. Yes they missed a few key parts of the book but you can only put so much of the details in the movie in 2 hours 33 minutes thus the final book is going to be a two parter. All in all a very excellent movie! A must see again (when the parents of the teens have put them into bed for the night)!

I thought the movie was good, but there was room for improvement. Definatly some things were completely different from the book, but they had to cover up details that they had left out in the previous movies. Ending was a little different, but still the point got across overall decent movie definatly excited for the last 2 they should be amazing
