My 20 year old son and I saw Dark Knight last night at midnight. It is a dark movie with a compelling performance from Keith Ledger. It is not appropriate for children under 10-12. For a 2 1/2 hour movie, we were focused on the movie throughout. As we talked on the ride home, we agreed that this was definately a 5. It is relatively rare that we will agree on such a strongly positive evaluation. I suspect that my son is trying to figure out who he will go with to see it again. We have seen earlier Batman movies, and this is a complete departure from the earlier and much lighter fare.

Excellent writing and storytelling. Gives the 1989 Batman movie a run for it's money. THE MOST AMAZING COMIC BOOK MOVIE EVER. If you love the batman storyline and the sinister joker from the 70's comics, this is THE BATMAN for you. Absolutely Perfect. So much development from "Batman Begins." Excellent performance from all the actors, especially Ledger. It is a shame he passed away. Props to Terry from Army Wives as well.

Great job, dark and gripping.
This movie was a great follow up to the Batman Begins and was even better in my opinion.
Heath Ledger did not try and redo Jack's role as the joker but reinvented the charactor and he did an amazing job capturing the nut job that is the joker.
Do yourself a favor and go see this, I already saw it once, but I will probably see it again before it hits the DVD stands

This has to be the best Batman ever. Great story, fabulous special effects, tons of action, and a little dark comedy throw in for a wonderful mix of a movie. I do however have one small complaint......Maggie G. I really coudn't see her in that role. Other than that no complaints from me. Can't wait for the next.

The greatest Batman movie to date; Heath deserves his praise! We've all waited since Batman turned over the Joker card at the end of Batman Begins to see the best villain in the comic book series and it was well worth the wait. Heath has set the bar for whichever actor attempts to play the role of the Joker in any Batman production. You will not get enough of his presences during the movie. It’s as if you always knew this was how the psychotic nemesis of The Dark Knight was to be performed and you do not want it to end. The death of Heath has added an extra element to the role making you conscious of the fact this is the last character he will ever portray which amplifies your love and wanting of adulation from his peers. The Oscar is a funny topic, because Superhero movies are never looked on seriously for lead roles. But this is different. The contribution he made to the industry with this role and to this franchise is now embedded in the essence of the villain we love. He has taken a character and made it his own. Just as Reeve’s was Superman, Heath Ledger is now The Joker.

Keep in mind that I didn’t even want to go, especially on opening night, but sometimes dads do things like that. I never got around to eating my box of malt balls because this movie kept me engaged from start to finish. Ledger’s portrayal of Joker lives up to all the hype so I won’t re-hash it. The special effects were excellent but the story line dominated: Mankind is depraved and TDK reveals many facets of that depravity. You’ll come away questioning which way is up (morally speaking), especially if you take note of the camera angles during Joker’s final scene.
If you look for character development you’ll be satisfied. If you enjoy plot twists you’ll be in knots. If you like cool special effects, chase scenes and blowing things up then you’ll have a blast. But if you want everything to end “happily ever after” then you’ll find out why reviewers are almost universally characterizing this film as “dark.”

Heath Ledger did an incredible job with his role as the joker. It was the joker that made that movie so great, the villian complimenting the hero. Its a shame we lost Heath Leder but he will always be remembered for his fantastic portrayal. Christian Bale did another great job as batman. To me he is the best batman ever, no other batman actor in the past can do a dark role as good as him. The movie is very entertaining filled with exciting scenes and non stop explosive action. I look forward to the third installment in this franchise, keep up the good work Cristopher Nolan

In all seriousness, Dark Knight is probably the best in the Batman Series. The introduction of characters was superb, the plot and the action were perfectly in sync, and the acting is, well, just go see it. The movie feels like you are watching a two parter because its longer than expected, but you leave the theater with such an adrenline rush!

Good movie. Solidly enjoyable and well executed, but not as good as all the hype led me to hope it would be. Heath Ledger is amazing and his performance is every bit as intense and inspired as you have heard it is. The movie is worth seeing for no other reason than to see the Joker as you never have before. Insight into the mind of a completely broken man.
Other performances are solid, but not inspiring. All of the title actors have been better elsewhere. Bale is great, but I can't stand the hushed, smokers-voice every time he dons the cowl.
The action is well filmed, realistic compared to many comic-adaptations of late, and constant! But in spite of that the movie drags in places. I think and editor with a good pair of scissors could have improved this movie a lot.
Dark... yeah, it's dark... but not as dark as the press would have you believe. I was expecting, nay, looking forward to leaving with my soul in utter turmoil. If this movie were chocolate, it would be Hershey's Dark chocolate - tastes like dark chocolate, but leaves you feeling like all they did was add artificial dark chocolate flavor to a regular Hershey bar. Much of the film takes place during the day, and Gotham is more brightly lit than I remember from past visits.
In short - it is not as good as the sum of it's parts dictate it should be. On paper it's an amazing movie. In action... it's solid, but misses the mark by just a hair. I think Iron Man is still the comic adaptation to beat this summer.

Forget everything you thought you knew about Batman movies, this one is far darker than the many that came before it. I know you've heard it a thousand times already, but Heath Ledger's joker could be one of the scariest villians of all time. Unlike previous batman installments, where the devious plots to destroy gotham seem campy and unrealistic, the joker seems real and believable, making him all the more terrifying. With great performances all around, incredible action sequences, stunning visual effects, and a well written script, Dark Knight may very well have surpassed Batman Begins as the best batman movie to date. If your looking for a movie reminding you of the campy original batman tv show, this is not your movie. But if your looking for a darker and more realistic spin on the comic books we've all grown up with, then this is your movie!
