I have been a fan of Batman since I was 6 years old. I've always been fascinated by the characters, the mythology, every aspect you could possibly think of. I can say without a shadow of a doubt that this is the Batman movie I've been waiting my entire life to see. Enough said

With all of the expectations build by the Hype Machine for this movie, I was expecting it to be okay.
This one may actually have lived up to some of it's hype. All of the cast were solid, the story was great, and the late Heath Ledger should be at least nominated for an Oscar for his role as The Joker.

Is it possible that a movie based on a comic book could make the list of this years best films? Well, if the movie is The Dark Knight, the answer is a resounding,YES!
I understand why his movie is the first in the franchise to not have"Batman" listed in the title. The reason is quite simple, because it was much more. The philosophical questions that the movie asked were very thoughtful. And the writers were smart enough to make a complete movie with out giving you the answer. THe same themes questions asked in the first installment of the new Batman movies continued and were broadened. How far do you go for good? I will be thinking about that one for awhile. (atleast until I go see this movie again.)

I never would have imagined how good this movie actually was. The past two have really stayed true to the themes of the comic books. This one is by far the best one yet. It was somewhat bittersweet seeing Heath Ledger in this because it was, in my opinion, his best performance, and it just reminded me of what a great talent we've lost. And he would have been proud of this movie and his role in it. I can't say enough wonderful things about this movie. From the great acting, to the awsome scripting and special effects and stunts. I hope everyone makes time to go see it.

Heath played the best Joker in y opinion. Not because of his recent death, but because he was so dark in this movie. there was alot of action and drama. It will be top on my list of movies to buy when it comes out on DVD.

Regardless of the hype surrounding this movie, it is a must for any moviegoer. Heath Ledger's The Joker is unbelievable, and you will be reminding yourself several times who is playing that character. This is one not to be missed.

Yes Heath Ledger is wonderfully dark and disturbing Joker. But for the rest of the movie....disjointed choppy action that your not sure is necessary to sustain any sort of plot. Its like someone forgot the point of the movie when they edited it. no chemistry between the actors. Caine, Freeman, Eackhart, Oldman, Gyllenhaal. None at all. And any more closeups of Bale whispering in a gravely voice and I thought I was going to puke. Not even Gotham City was any good. Clearly shot in Chicago. On a nice sunny day. In the Middle of the day!!
There were some minor parallels drawn between our current terrorism obsession down to even the ethics of wiretapping, but it was all a little to lame.
No, I do not recommend this movie.

I loved Batman Begins and was hoping that this movie would exceed my expectations as well. It did however, I was thrown off by the corny, cartoon representation of Harvey Dent's (Two face) face. The make-up or special effects were so over the top that I lost my connection with the movie. Besides that, they did a pretty good job on the movie overall. Heath Ledger gave an amazing performance as The Joker, which made the whole movie worth seeing.

This was close to a perfect film. Mr. Nolan was clearly influenced by Heat and the French Connection in terms of pacing and structure. This film had all the elements of a classic crime drama. The overall tone was extremely somber but ended with just enough hope to send even average filmgoers home happy.
The only flaw was pacing. Strangely, the movie was both too short, yet had subplots that could have been edited or eliminated in order to retain the same running time. The ultimate transformation of a central character would have benefited from a few more minutes of character development, and the first few action sequences seem a bit episodic and disconnected from the central plot.
The minor quibbles with pacing are not enough to prevent this film from deserving all the praise it has received. The late Mr. Ledger's performance does take the film to another level and he is deserving of an Oscar nomination. However, Bale and Eckhart certainly hold up their ends, and Bale, particularly, seems confident being the center of tentpole film. Overall, this is one of the two best films I have seen of the past two years (the other being Sidney Lumet's brilliant Before the Devil Knows You're Dead), and this is certainly the most well-conceived and well-executed summer blockbuster I have ever seen. If Return of the King can receive an Oscar, this brilliant, thought-provoking (albeit slightly flawed) fantasy/crime epic deserves at least three Oscar nominations: Best Picture, Best Director and Best Supporting Actor. Please go see this film.

Let me first say that the wait was definitely worth it. This was by far one of the best movies I've ever seen and the BEST Batman movie ever. It didn't feel like the movie was 2.5 hours and it was over before I even knew it. Heath Ledger gave an amazing performance and still gives me chills when I think about it. Bale was also unbelievable as usual. Basically the whole cast was phenomanal and I would definitely recommend this movie to anyone and everyone.

Maggie G was a poor choice for Rachel. She did not bring the same innocence and toughness to the character.

Don't be scared away by the long run time--you'll be glued to your seats every minute!! It's amazing what just the right casting can do for a movie. Moreso for a Dark Knight/Villain. Even moreso what a good story line will do. Christian Bale, as previously, doesn't disappoint as Batman. Heath Ledger is whom totally caught me off guard with his portral of the unpredictable Joker. It's such a tragedy that we lost such a talented actor. His final role will be forever burned into our minds and hearts as the Joker. This Batman movie has such a dark plot, such a sad twist at the end, but hey, I wouldn't have had it any other way if we want to continue seeing more...

When deciding on whether going to see a movie in the theater these days is really worth the cost I listen to what critics and viewers of advance screenings say.
Unfortunately, they may love a movie that I hate, and vice versa. So it helps when they say why they like or do not like a movie... what it was that satisfied them or turned them off.
So, what can I write that hasn't already been written, or said, already. Everything about this movie was outstanding, and not just from a standard superhero/action/adventure movie standpoint. It has so much more depth and complexity than even it's predecessor, Batman Begins.
Each of the major characters is head and shoulders above where they were in the previous movie. Even some of the most minor characters, in their brief appearances on screen, have more impact than those in most any other movie out there now.
Everyone has said, and I'm confident will continue to say that Heath Ledger delivers an Academy Award winning performance. It's true, he absolutely does, without question.
Well, I guess I have one question - How is anyone going to follow THAT act?

I haven't watched the Batman movies in some time but this one did not disappoint. This reminded me of the Michael Keaton versions in its darkness and such. Kudos to Heath Ledger as Joker for he made the part his own. A very dark Joker giving you a bit more insight into the past of the Joker .

This is by and far the best of the Batman movies, past and present. All of the actors were fantastic. Heath Ledger's performance as The Joker makes me sad to think of the future performances that will be missed since his untimely death. He totally became lost in this role and added to this character depth and irony that was sorely lacking in the Jack Nicholson performance. In addition, Maggie Gyllenhaall was much more believable as a tough D.A. than Katie Holmes' weak performance. Christian Bale, as usual, delivered as The Dark Knight. He proves never to disappoint in any role he tackles. And I have to say that Gary Oldman, Michael Caine, and Morgan Freeman, three of my favorite actors of all time, give this comic book story an heir of legitimacy that makes you feel that the story is far more important to society than it really is. This film is filled with delicious irony, a fire truck on fire, The Joker sanitizing his hands, as if there was enough sanitizer on earth to cleanse his hands of the death and destruction he creates! Also, Morgan Freeman's poignant acknowledgement to Batman that his newest toy gives too much power to one human being (which by the way smacks an insult to the current administrations eavesdropping/wiretapping policy) makes this story relevant, as much as a fantasy comic book story can be, in today’s culture. This movie left me longing for the next tale of the Dark Knight, while woefully mindful that for the Joker to continue, another actor will have to step up to give the performance of a lifetime. Heath Ledger left behind very big shoes to fill. Good luck to the man who tries.
