First I'll point out the "bad," the movie is a little drawn out for all that it accomplishes, and there are certain aspects of Batman that seem to be left out, I mean he is supposed to be the worlds greatest detective right? The good it gets everything else right for what I understand about Batman and its is a fairly good movie on its own merit. I did enjoy the villain and retrospectively the thematic connections between the Joker, Batman, Gotham, and Harvey was really refreshing.
Webster may have to redefine hero.

I'm sorry but this movie wasn't near worth the hype and hoopla that has been centered around it for weeks, if not months.
The movie was good, don't misunderstand me, but the length was just too much. 2 1/2 hours with at times very mundane dialog was at times nearly unbearable to sit through.
Save your money and get it on DVD and enjoy it in the comfort of your own chair at home.
No, I do not recommend this movie.

Comes in a distant second. Great action scenes, good cinema photography / graphics (though much less effort to change Chicago into Gotham City than last version), but less clear plot and themes. Editing seemed to have a chaotic process of trying to make a story that distracted from the story of the chaos of tenaciously random evil. Numerous meaningless sacrifices portrayed as Meaningful. “Begins” was done much better… on many levels. “Dark Knight” is entertaining, but long and too random for any of the intended metaphors to stick, and will be missed by most.

This movie was pretty good but I was to tired to see it. Its really long. I will enjoy it better at home on a DVD. I did like the fact that it wasn't as DARK as the other batmans. The joker was interesting. Not anything like the comic strip. Seems like he just wears the makeup because he is crazy. Go see it.. but I wouldn't wait int he lines for a hour or so to get a ticket.. wait until the lines die down.

I'm still trying to put into words just what this movie was like and its still not easy but I will give it a try.
Basically this movie's theme was consequence or escalation as some have labled it. Like The Empire Strikes Back this was the darkest part of a potential trilogy that takes the heros and puts them through hell and there only a small ray of hope at the end but not much.
While I don't believe Heath Ledgers portrayal of The Joker was oscar worthy it was a very good performace and the best Joker in the history of film and television. I think this Joker works well because he is very simple, an "agent of chaos" as The Joker puts it.
His sole purpose is to create death and destruction and not much else. We never learn his real name or where he came from and that perhaps is the scariest aspect, the feeling this guy was thrown into our world to wreak havoc by something else.
Bottom line this was a very good entry into what hopefully what will be a trilogy.

I'm not a huge fan of super hero movies but this movie is suburb. The acting, pyro technics, staging, etc was truly outstanding. I really encourage you to see it unless you don't like violences or bad language although the language is really not too bad.

dark and forboding just like a batman movie should have been from the beginning. the dark detective faces his greatest enemy and proves to be his yin to his own yang.

Heath Ledger deserves an Oscar for his performance. He gave the whole Batman movie a new and likeable twist. It's a shame this was his last movie. He was a really good actor. Maggie was at her finest as well. It was just a great movie.

I'm not even an action fan, but this film was flat out amazing! Heath's performance lived up to all the hype. Suspensful, dark, disturbing, but entertaining, and creepy too! What more can I say, other than WOW!

WOW! I am speechless after Heath Leger's performance. There was no visible sign of Heath when the Joker was on the screen. What an amazing performance. What an amazing movie. I will most defiantly suggest that everyone see this film.

When people used to speak of Batman, the first thing that would come to my mind was Michael Keaton, Val Kilmer, or the cartoon Batman we all used to watch as kids. Batman has a new face. Christian Bale gave a stunning performance in Batman Begins, but the long anticipated Dark Knight has finally arrived, and I haven't found a single person who has not enjoyed this movie. Batman returns to the big screen once again with the same nostalgic feel we all tend to get when we see one of our favorite superheroes fight crime. Though this time around, Batman is much more human and the film has a much more adult feel to it. In The Dark Knight, Gotham has found a new hero. Harvey Dent, Gotham's district attorney is the voice of the people and has done more justice and put more criminals behind bars than Batman ever has. While Batman is struggling with the idea of not being the hero of Gotham, a new villain shows his face to the people of Gotham. Heath Ledger arrives as the new face of the Joker and puts on the most stunning performance I have ever seen from him, or any other actor. The insane, psychotic, sadistic madman has made his mark on the town, and Gotham will need all the help it can get to stop him. The Dark Knight is most definitely the greatest film this year, and I believe it will hold that title. Breathtaking cinematography and top of the line acting is just a bonus to the best film of the Batman franchise. My theater was going wild during every moment of this film. After the credits began to roll, nobody moved as we all sat in awe of this masterpiece. This film is a must see for anyone and it is 100% worth your money.

This movie is quite possibly the greatest visual interpretation of the Batman epic ever. Christian Bale & Heath Ledger bring to life the hero/villan duo of The Batman & The Joker in such a way that you almost believe the two characters truly exist. The way in which the Joker creates pure chaos with sheer abandon is the perfect test for this version of batman, who craves order and peace above all things. If you are even a casual fan of the Batman story, such as I am, this will deepen your appreciation for the characters as well as make you think. The underlying themes of the movie, such as justice at any cost or the power of fate and chaos, take this movie to places that most have never gone. This is definitely an action-packed movie, but you will not leave the theater talking about the action on the screen. You will leave talking about the characters and how masterfully they were brought to life. Michael Caine as Alfred is not just Bruce Wayne's servant, but his conscience. Gary Oldman is not the typical version of Commission Gordon who uses Batman as a crutch, but rather a Commissioner who is active in the fight. And Aaron Eckharts portrayal of Harvey Dent, and the demented Two Face, will blow you away.
You will be suprised. This is one of the few superhero movie where the good guys ultimately lose. Highly recommended.

Much more surreal and menacing than the originals. The Joker was an amazing character in this movie. He was funny at times but very dark. I loved it!! A little long but it never got boring!

I am not a huge superhero fan but I really enjoyed this movie. It was incredibly intense and kept me on the edge of my seat. It is definitely not for children under the age of 12. I would recommend this to any of my adult friends!

The movie was very violent in some places, but in the many scenes that Heath Ledger was in, the movie became a hysterical comedy. The violence was okay at some times and semi-disturbing at others. I did enjoy the movie though, the plot was excellent and I would definetely see it again.

This movie is excellent. It has a bit of a creepy and quite dark feel to it especially Heath Ledgers character The Joker. Now there (The Joker) is a complete phsycopath!!!! There were some surprises in the movie that made you cheer, laugh and gasp, sometimes all at the same time. Excellent special effects and pyro-technics. I may have to go see this movie a 2nd time just to catch everything that happened. I certainly will be getting this on DVD when it comes out.

From the opening dissolve, The Dark Knight hits the ground racing like a Bat Pod, only to ease on the gas a touch about to thirds of the way through, just to give the viewer a chance to breath!
Set piece after set piece, TDK delivers. It's mix of genre tones elevates it above other comic book movies, from crime epic to popcorn entertainment to gloves-off horror, TDK never bores.
Heath Ledger as the Joker dominates every scene he's in, with a creation of acting that lingers in the mind long after the credits dim.
But your mouth won't be fixed in a permanent grimace like the Joker's, but an O shaped "Wow" at some of the inventive film making here. Enjoy.!

I saw it in IMAX and then in normal theaters and IMAX is definitely better. Not only is it going to be bigger, but they didn't reformat for the widescreen of normal theaters so you actually have detail being cropped out.
The movie is dark and looks into morals and society and doesn't have a happily-ever-after ending which makes it one of my top favorite movies.

I loved it!! There is one thing that bothered me, Christian Bale's strange lispy, deep voice he uses for batman. I know he had to disguise his voice but, it does sound pretty ridiculous. Other than that the movie was really super cool!!

Even with the specail effects (which were great!) there was a plot. In most action movies there rely on the explosion. Heath was the best joker to date.

This Batman was so much better than the last one and Heath Ledger was AMAZING! It's really long, but doesn't ever get slow or boring. Worth the 20 bucks. Makes you a little sad that we won't be seeing anything more with Heath...
