The Dark Night is the darkest and most violent of the franchise ever to be produced and parents should only bring kids if they explain to them that it is only a movie as this will cause nightmares, That been said this film was the best film I have seen in a long time, the none stop suspense the special effects and the no holds bar when it comes to Heath Ledgers "Joker" was incredible.

The best of all the attempts to create a "Batman" and "Gotham City" Blockbuster.
I can't go for another re-do, so this better be it.
They could be wise and create a TV Series from this Pilot. I'm sure everyone would go "Bats" over it for a long time.

i was really put off by the ads for this movie--they seemed to exploit heath ledger's death (joker as disinterred corpse). reprehensible stuff. but the film was actually quite smart, the performances effective, and the production value off the charts. not up to the hype, naturally--wish i'd seen it the first week--but still very good.

This defnitely lived up to the "Batman" standard and beyond. It was a different sort of movie, as far as the Batman movies that have come out before, but definitely in all the right ways. I think all of the characters did an excellent job, but Heath Ledger definitely nailed the Joker part and that is saying a lot after Jack Nicholson set the bar so high. This is definitely a must see for the summer.

Heath Ledger was amazing as the joker - I haven't seen a movie this good in ages!
Anybody who can, go see it, but don't bring little kids - its a little scary for them, unless they like blood, burn victims, etc
Excellent movie - not gory, but enough to get the point across.
Again, the joker was AMAZING

As a fan of all the batman movies, it is hard for me to say any of them can beat the original but this one beats them all! This is definitely the best Batman movie ever in my opinion. Heath Ledger's the Joker makes Jack Nicholson's version look sane. I love Jack as the Joker but Heath was better - I have to say it. I loved this movie and so did everyone in our group. We all agreed this is the best one!

Dark Knight was very disjointed, jumping between too many subplots. It also lacked internal consistency, and many escapes by The Joker went unexplained or were just plain stupid.

I really enjoyed this movie! It's too bad Heath Ledger passed away; he is totally deserving of the Oscar based on performance, but a win will always be tainted by those who feel he just got it because of his death. Can't wait for the next one.

A superbly-written story with fantastic production value and excellent
acting performances. There is a reason this movie is getting the buzz
and business it is getting--it deserves it! And yes, I can see where
others feel Heath Ledger's performance is Oscar-worthy. There are also
some innovative action sequences that will not disappoint action fans.
If you haven't seen Batman Begins, I also recommend it highly, although
this movie stands alone quite well.

Dark Knight was terrifically able to keep the action and the plot constantly engaging and exciting. The acting by the male leads was particularly, and consistently, excellent.
More importantly, however, was the message contained in the movie: People control their own destiny and good people must forcefully take up arms against evil, even at the cost of human life, and passivity in the face of evil will eventually doom good.
This message is particularly important today in a world in which many people equate good with the opposition to taking up force against evil.
Bravo to the group of Hollywood people who were able to produce such a great movie in the face of Hollywood's dominant philosophy.

This movie was very well done. The movie title could of been the "The Joker". Heath Ledger dominated the movie. This was by far his best acting. Unfortunately it probably resulted in his untimely death. Jack Nicholsan apparently warned him about getting to involved with the character. This movie is going to be a tough act to follow for future Batman movies.

When I saw Aaron Eckhart flip his coin for the first time and realized where his character was headed, it suddenly became clear to me how far the Batman franchise has come since Tim Burton's beautiful but empty offerings. The writing in this film is outstanding, and aspires to the best theatrical fare. The movie is too long and the chase scenes too repetitive - too often we go back to "let's watch Batman go real fast." But the story is outstanding. The screenwriters took a huge risk by stopping the action to have the characters discuss the nature of heroes, good, and evil, and the best that can be said of Ledger, Eckhart, Oldman and Bale is that they rose to the level of the script.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

I am not one to go to the theater, especially since movie prices (like the prices for everything else) have gotten so ungodly high. As a mother of two that also works full time, I can think of much better things to spend my hard earned money on, and lately I've felt ripped off even spending the $3 at the video store. Dark Knight was in a class by itself, and for once I left the movies feeling that the feature earned what I had paid and then some. This movie is the best that I have seen in a LONG time, and kept me rivited from start to finish.
As a woman that is not into "chick flicks", I watch a lot of action, and lately have been pleasantly surprised at the number of graphic novels and longtime favorite comics that have been brought to the big sceen. Dark Knight presents some serious obsticles for those other features out there.
Definately not a movie for you to bring the kids to, but it was so good that I literally wanted to walk right back into the theater and watch the whole thing over again as soon as it was done. It seemed to really push the limits of its PG-13 rating, although (surprisingly) doing so with no swearing, nudity, and no real "gore". It is, instead, very dark and sinister, and we see a side of the Batman that is not present in the earlier three movies. Moreover, before seeing Dark Knight, I thought that Jack Nicholson was the "end-all be-all" of Jokers, and was actually quite upset when I learned that Ledger was being cast in the role. After seeing the movie, Ledger was brilliant, and makes the previous Joker legend seem like a silly clown.
A seriously incredible movie that left me hungry for the next installment and even more saddened than ever that Ledger is not here to enjoy the fruits of his stellar performance.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

The action and special effects in this movie are as good as one has come to expect
in the current action/advanture genre. The acting is even better, with the
late Heath Ledger as the Joker virtually (but not virtuously) stealing the
show, as well as all the mob money in Gotham City. But what really exceeds
all expectations is the psychologic and sociologic philosophy underpinning
the entire plot and screenplay. What is The Good? What is Virtue? What is
Justice? How do human beings react to moral dilemmas and why? It's all in
there. Better bone up your Plato's Republic before you plunge into The Dark
Knight!

I had been away in Europe the past few weeks and by the time I got back, everyone I knew had seen The Dark Knight. Of course I got the typical, "Wow, this is such a great movie," "Heath's performance is one for the ages," and much more of the well-deserved praise for what I must admit is one of the best movies I have seen in years.
What no one did tell me was how political it was and how much Christopher Nolan and his scribe brother (Jonathan) commented on the post-9/11 culture in the United States.
Hitting on the obvious post-terrorist-attack elements of fear and vengeance, the Nolans also got across the point that in order to beat the bad guy, you need to sink to his/her level, and make decisions that may be unethical, but necessary to win the battle.
Batman not only walked that fine line of ethics in his war with the Joker, but crossed it, hell, even jumped over it. But I think the point the Nolans were trying to make was that after you crossed that line and won the war, are you able to then go back?
The "war" in the Dark Knight would seemingly be over once the Joker has been defeated. But what about the next villain? What would Batman need to do to stop him/her?
That's also the problem in real life. Who knows when the war will be over? Who decides that? The people who break the rules to fight the war?
Yes, I recommend this movie.

I also think that Heath Ledger WAS the movie. His acting was INCREDIBLE, very captivating and entertaining. A+++
Other than that, the story didn't really grab my attention. I wasn't "into it" at all. I agree with many, the fact that Bruce Wayne has to change his voice when he is Batman is so silly, it seems very forced. Also, toward the end, I didn't really like the sonar effects... Batman being able to "see" everything and everyone on the building just seemed a bit too easy.
Overall, it's a movie worth watching, full of action and awesome effects, but I expected much more. Batman Begins in my eyes, is still the better movie. Too bad Heath Ledger wasn't in it! :)

I've been a fan of the Batman movies since Jack and Michael, which before this movie was easily the best. This movie is easily the better of the two, and the best over all. Heath Ledger was superb. Nothing else needs to be said. Christian Bale is very convincing, and this new era of Batman movies looks extremely promising. I loved the character development throughout and can only wonder what they have in store for fans next. Oh, by the way, don't take little kids to see this movie. It is a little dark.

I gave this movie 5 stars and 2 thumbs up but be forewarned, this is a dark movie and a significant departure from previous the movies in the Batman series. I would even go so far as to say this is the "Pulp Fiction" of the Batman movies. Heath Ledger is fantastic as the "Joker" and the Academy Award for Best Actor should be awarded to him posthumously right now. The world will miss him and his talent on the big screen. His interpretation of the "Joker" was original and authentic and took nothing from or away from the performances by Jack Nicholson and others. However, make no mistake, this is not a children's movie. This is a movie that pits people against other people in evil twisted delemmas to expose the dark side of humanity. The scene involving the ferries is but one example and the only one where the outcome leaves us with a small sliver of hope for humanity. The ferry scene, and for that matter, the whole movie, could be construed as a metaphor for the debate on the death penalty in our society for just as Batman and the people of Gotham seek to eradicate the evil in their world, they risk becoming the evil they seek to eradicate. Enjoy the movie!
