I am not one to go to the theater, especially since movie prices (like the prices for everything else) have gotten so ungodly high. As a mother of two that also works full time, I can think of much better things to spend my hard earned money on, and lately I've felt ripped off even spending the $3 at the video store. Dark Knight was in a class by itself, and for once I left the movies feeling that the feature earned what I had paid and then some. This movie is the best that I have seen in a LONG time, and kept me rivited from start to finish. As a woman that is not into "chick flicks", I watch a lot of action, and lately have been pleasantly surprised at the number of graphic novels and longtime favorite comics that have been brought to the big sceen. Dark Knight presents some serious obsticles for those other features out there. Definately not a movie for you to bring the kids to, but it was so good that I literally wanted to walk right back into the theater and watch the whole thing over again as soon as it was done. It seemed to really push the limits of its PG-13 rating, although (surprisingly) doing so with no swearing, nudity, and no real "gore". It is, instead, very dark and sinister, and we see a side of the Batman that is not present in the earlier three movies. Moreover, before seeing Dark Knight, I thought that Jack Nicholson was the "end-all be-all" of Jokers, and was actually quite upset when I learned that Ledger was being cast in the role. After seeing the movie, Ledger was brilliant, and makes the previous Joker legend seem like a silly clown. A seriously incredible movie that left me hungry for the next installment and even more saddened than ever that Ledger is not here to enjoy the fruits of his stellar performance.
