I gave this movie 5 stars and 2 thumbs up but be forewarned, this is a dark movie and a significant departure from previous the movies in the Batman series. I would even go so far as to say this is the "Pulp Fiction" of the Batman movies. Heath Ledger is fantastic as the "Joker" and the Academy Award for Best Actor should be awarded to him posthumously right now. The world will miss him and his talent on the big screen. His interpretation of the "Joker" was original and authentic and took nothing from or away from the performances by Jack Nicholson and others. However, make no mistake, this is not a children's movie. This is a movie that pits people against other people in evil twisted delemmas to expose the dark side of humanity. The scene involving the ferries is but one example and the only one where the outcome leaves us with a small sliver of hope for humanity. The ferry scene, and for that matter, the whole movie, could be construed as a metaphor for the debate on the death penalty in our society for just as Batman and the people of Gotham seek to eradicate the evil in their world, they risk becoming the evil they seek to eradicate. Enjoy the movie!
