I thought they had the characters down to the "t".
Especially Bones, Spock, and Scotty. Really enjoyed it as a youngster I watched Star Trek all the time and have seen all the other movies also.

As a long-time trekkie (I grew up with the original series) I really enjoyed the different take and feel of this film. While I wasn't okay with the iffy time-line scenario, the casting of the characters was first rate. More action than previous Star Trek movies. If this is going to be the 1st in a new series of Star Trek movies, I can't wait for the next installment.

I had very high expectations going into this movie, as I have been a lifelong Trek fan. I must say that my expectations were certainly met. The casting was excellent; I'd swear that some of the actors were channelling the originals. I'm intrigued by the alternate reality aspect, and I think JJ Abrams did a fine job with the "reboot." I don't get out to theaters much, but I may see this one in all its digital goodness again.

If you get hung up in the "but but but but..." then you might not enjoy this as much as you should. It's a lot of fun and the re-imagining of the new alternate Trek universe is well done. Definitely worth seeing on the big screen - don't wait to Netflix it.

An incredible adventure. What a great science fiction movie. I have been a life-long Star Trek fan and thought that these young actors did an excellent job of portraying the original cast. Even though they all were great, the young Spock was truly marvelous. Exciting special effects and nice set up for another movie. Loved it.

My husband is a trekie and I have seen them all. I really enjoyed this Star Trek Movie. It had a wonderful story, exciting action sequences and powerful drama. The actors did a great job respecting the characters and the actors who came before them. I really enjoyed Lenord Nemoy and his part in the movie. His reaction to seeing the young Kirk made me tear up. I think that people who are not Star Trek fans would enjoy this movie. I would definitely see this movie again.

As a Star Trek fan, I wondered if they were going to be campy with this movie, to my suprise they did not make it campy. What a great movie!
The producers nailed it with the cast. Chris Pine (The Princess Diaries 2) was superb as the womanizing Kirk, Zachary Quinto (Heroes' Sylar) is perfect as Spock!
A few spots where it could have been cut, but overall it was well worth sitting for 2 hours. Lots of action, great special effects...Loved it. Will see it again and again.

This is a wonderful movie. That succeeds where other films did not. It acknowledges that there should be NO assumptions made about the characters within. And in that, it allows the movie to have fun with what we already know. That, plus amazing battle sequences are awesome. My one detractor is the bridge of the enterprise looks like a cross between the Apple Store and CSI Miami.

An amazing blend of homage and update, the new Star Trek movie pulls off the miraculous feat of pleasing fanatics while satisfying new viewers. What makes the movie accessible to newcomers is the vibrant interplay between reason and emotion--the same engine that drove the original show and all its previous movie iterations. The young actors in the movie are forceful, conveying a can-do spirit, and the plot balances small human drama with galaxy-wide conflict. I will confess to being a supreme Trekker, and I shouted and even cried multiple times. But I was surrounded by 20-year olds who laughed at the jokes and thrilled to the drama, and who seemed just as caught up in the Kirk-Spock dynamic as I was.

i have made it...i have completed my journey from geek to nerd...i love this movie so this is not a bad thing...my husband is a 3rd generation trekkie...since we met i have heard nothing but great things about this franchise...i think that the casting was great...i have been a fan of simon pegg and zachery quinto for a bit now....and the rest of the cast was great as well...the action was great...the movie for me was more then a movie but an experience..that is the true sign of a great film..
i would go and see this movie again in the theater and i cannot wait for the blue ray...

Overall, a great movie! A terrific origin story for Captain James T. Kirk and Commander Spock. Chris Pine and Zachary Quintos were outstanding as Kirk and Spock. The supporting cast was excellent. Special effects and action sequences were not overdone...all in all, a credit to the Star Trek history. I look forward to the sequels, which will depend, in my opinion, on holding on to the outstanding writers here. Don't let them go! As a long time trekker, I noticed some minor discrepancies, but not important enough to take away from the overall quality of the movie!

Very enjoyable flick. Not perfect, but the positives greatly out weigh the negatives. This is obviously an intro piece for what the studio expects to be another series of Trek films. The story for this one is mostly the establishment of the new/old characters. I like the angle the film makers took to put us back in the time frame of the original series without making any of it beholden to the original story lines but still allowing us to revisit any of them. The potential is there for the series to be the best movie series ever.

Saw it with my boys who are big Trekkies too. The only disappointment was the Spock-Uhura thing...yuck. Otherwise we left without any doubt that this may be our favorite. Characters did a fabulous job recreating the originals, lots of credibility to the backstory. And of course, fistfights galore - how Kirk!! Can't wait to see it again!

I could start this review by discussing how the acting was brilliant, how the characters worked well, how the character origins unfolded or how the story pacing was fantastic, but this all of this is false.
Instead, JJ Abrams has decided to rewrite the series and, indeed, the Trek universe. Using a temporal anomaly lets Abrams take complete creative control over the 'new' Star Trek series .Anomalies are cop-out writing techniques. To base all future films or series on this anomaly event is completely pretentious. It basically says, "I'm J.J. Abrams and I'm better than Roddenberry ever was".. Take the film for what it is as a standalone project, bet let's leave Abrams film alone as an anomaly in itself. Trek does not need this.

It was really refreshing to see a well put together reboot of Star Trek. I came out thinking that this is what Enterprise should have been. The dialogue was light enough that it was not bogged down with long speeches. And managed to make all of the characters interesting. I do not see much room for improvement ( Except for the door on the creature planet). But over all I would recommend this movie to just about anyone.

Great film! Has the comedy that was in the early movies, and shows you were it all started. Very good casting for all our beloved characters from the Star Trek world.
I was impressed with Karl Urban's grumbling doctor the most I think. Then of course the casting of Spock and Kirk was great.
Was so enjoyable to see them as the talented young students and yet they already had the chemistry that made the other films so great. You get to see them more as a team I believe than before.
You really get the sense that you are glimpsing your favorite characters in their iconic growth towards their destiny.
