This is a wonderful movie. That succeeds where other films did not. It acknowledges that there should be NO assumptions made about the characters within. And in that, it allows the movie to have fun with what we already know. That, plus amazing battle sequences are awesome. My one detractor is the bridge of the enterprise looks like a cross between the Apple Store and CSI Miami.
The backstory was cool, although not really connected with the Marvel Comics. The plot seemed to swerve all over the place with a couple of different objectives all through the movie. It was fun and captivating, and well worth the watch.
I have read the graphic novel several times. The movie hit on the key parts and most memorable, and even added some more grittier and memorable parts of their own. But, the whole thing was almost undone by the happy ending between Dan and Laurie. It wasn't in the book, and I don't think it was a necessity for the movie.
