I have never been a Trekkie, or a huge sci-fi fan in general. But this was one great movie. Good acting, not just guys trying to imitate Spock and Kirk. Terrific special effects, lots of action, and quite a bit of humor injected throughout. With a huge box-office take this weekend, we can count on seeing more of this crew! Here's hoping the sequels to come will be able to keep up the pace!

Torn between running to see new Trek and worried about changes, the twist/plot point satisfied me. Trek fan or not, this was a great movie. Some actors were great such as Karl Urban's spot on Dr McCoy. Trek’s budget/ effects are unmatched in the franchise. Having much to accomplish for diehard fans and also to just be a genuinely good if not great movie, 2/3 feeling like a buildup of where we thought we were finally going to see the characters&movie go. Bana/Nero and the Romulans never felt like believable characters. Many scenes did feel as if they had been cut down sacrificing plot point leaving just sexiness/ flashiness/comedy. Its still a fantastic movie and hope they have the next installment out soon.

The Special effects were very good. Good acting. In my opinion Captain Kirk as a young punk, it is hard to visualize it. I know he is a troubled person, however, I would have liked the character to demonstrate more positive values. You can be young, restless but be humble and compasionate.This guys are Guardians of the Universe: Knights. No, I am not confused. This values are Universal and transcend time and space. The Captain Kirk I know is different. And what about Spok old and the new Spok together at the end. Old Spok said that he could not be where the new Spok was. It was a good start. Hope that the next two movies are better in developing the characters. May the force be with you.

I enjoyed this flim, but do I think it measures up to all the hype and accolades it's been getting? No.
I place it along the lines of the better television spinoffs that have followed the orginal television series; Next Generation and whatever the one was called that was supposed to have preceded the orginal television series with Captain Jonathan Arthur.
Yes, it had good special effects and lots of action, but I thought the character development was limited and the story far from believable. Yes, it was Science Fiction, but good fiction pulls one into its world and leads to a suspension of disbelief. That didn't happen in this case, and the flick came off pretty much like an enjoyable cartoon.

In a word: perfect! Star Trek is the must-see movie of the season. J.J. Abrams nails the tone and visuals of this film, blending just the right character development and story lines with great special effects. I'm not a trekkie nor one to applaud at the end of ANY film, but this movie definitely took me back to evenings in front of the TV with my siblings watching Star Trek and I DID applaud (along with the rest of the movie-goers) at the end of this movie. I can't wait to see another installment. Great to see Nimoy, but the new cast simply could not be better. Everyone will enjoy this new turn in space, with some old friends!

The insulting "this is not your granddad's Star Trek" didn't keep me from seeing the movie. It wasn't the Star Trek of my Childhood I wasn’t really the audience after all.
The Cash Cow has been cloned, successfully.The Movie is raucous space adventure. As it should be. It's just not MY Star Trek. But I'm ok with that.It is a very good movie in it's own right.The best in-joke in the movie was from the Series that killed the original Star Trek Universe via very bad management.
Overall, a very satisfying movie. Well done, Mr. Abrams.And May The Cloned Cow live long and prosper. So that the memory of the the dearly departed Cow lives on in our memories and new memories and new reaches will exceed our grasp from The Next Generation...

It is no secret that Trek fans know every minute detail of the ST universe and will take exception to anything that steps outside of the established canon. It takes a lot of stones to re-invent the legend. My hat is off J.J. Abrams and Co. for taking this iconic franchise in a new direction. The purpose of the journey has always been "to boldly go where no one has gone before," and this motion picture certainly does that. Trek fans can enjoy a blend of the familiar and the new. The special effects are top notch, the performances original, and the story holds together well.

As a minority, I especially enjoyed the fact that the leading ladies were not blonde and blue eyed, but green, brown and pointed eared. The multi-cultural casting was perfect. The storyline stayed true to the intent of the original Star Trek stories (which were always outside the box). Loved the visuals which were a great adventure ride. Loved how this Star Trek was reinvented. Hope the writers live long and prosper. Can't wait for next one!

Great for my teenage son--lot's of action, high bravado, good comic relief. As a lifetime Star Trek fan I would say this felt a little forced with somewhat shallow characters. Many of the successful Star Trek movies have a bit of self-depreciating humor to offset the "nobody would ever truly act like that" issue-this movie fails to deliver that. However, even saying that, this is a fun good movie and I would recommend it.

Well cast, and the story was okay although convoluted - but from the boring reappearance of the Romulans, their poorly imagined spacecraft - what was that thing...a platform collage?, the silly villain - this dude looked like my neighbor with his Halloween makeup still on, the plot holes, the inane jokes that let the gas out of any hint of tension that may have been in the movie, through to the all too predictable graphically implosive ending that gained my commitment to never see another Star Trek. Were it not for the Sensuround, I would've been in dreamland - with visions of the upcoming and cool GI Joe movie dancing in my head.

Wow! Excellent casting, acting, action, story, it was all there. The 2 hour run time of this movie just flew by with action and drama interspersed throughout. This was the first movie I have been to in such a long time where the audience applauded at the conclusion. Don't miss this and I can't wait for the next installment.

With movies being both so expensive and available so quickly on DVD one need to be choosey about what they see in the theater. This film was definitely worth the money.
