Awesome StarTrek movie. Though, if you are a hardcore fan you may be disappointed. The new movie kinda undoes much of what the old StarTrek movies constructed. Little sad, but the movie is soooo awesome that it doesnt matter

Star Trek New Beginnings

Abrams nailed this one. The best of the 11 Trek movies. Perfect cast for the extraordinary depth of character development. I was impresed by how Abrams was able to systmatically develop the personalities and characters so that by the end, I could see, Kirk, Spock, Scotty, and the whole Enterprise crew growing comfortable in their own skin. I rarely see movies for a second time, but I definitely want to see this one again.

In short, pretty decent sci-fi movie with great special affects. "Loosely" based on Gene Roddenberry's creation. Characters and the ship have familiar names with vaguely similar but different personalities.

Acting was good but the actors were not encouraged to play the original characters.

Trekkies will notice many continuity flaws.
The plot has mechanism seen in other sci-fi movies or TV series. Little originality but never the less, a well done film.

Directing, editing, acting, costumes, and special affects (by ILM) were all very good.

Change character names/ships/Starfleet affliliation and it could have been any other sc-fi movie.

Yes, I recommend this movie.

Star Trek

Whether you are Trekkie or just a movie goer this is cool. If you are a Trekkie then you will love how these youngsters really got the image of the characters from TV. While some may say Uhura is weak... I am glad for the original Uhura who is finally getting the status she deserved. The others you can link easily from Chekov to Kirk... well done.

Star Trek lives!

My husband and I saw this movie and we both thought it was excellent. The cast totally caught the essence of each character, and the inclusion of Leonard Nimoy as Spock from the future was great. I high recommend it, and please see it on the big screen!

Love Love Love this movie!!!

I'm fully aware this film is probably going to make a lot of the hard-core Trekkies upset but come on, was this a great film or what? Superb casting with a few minor glitches, namely Chekov...would have much preferred to see an actual Russian actor but you can't have everything. Loved the story, the concept, the action and obviously the opportunity for more Star Trek films with this new cast.

Star Trek New Beginning

As a Trek fan since the 1970s, it was thrilling to see how the crew got together, but in a new way. Frankly, the old Star Trek universe was getting layered with inter-dependent complexity. Now, it will be interesting to see where they go from here, rather than what I originally expected as a gap filler.

The movie itself is fast paced, great acting, super special effects, and some well placed comic relief.

Cant wait for the next 5 movies

As a prequel to the Star Trek series this is very good. In fact this is much better than the Star Wars prequel. It give depth to the characters that are central part of Star Trek while keeping the action moving along. It is rare to find a film of this length that holds your attention from the very start.
A must see movie.

WOW! WOW! WOW! I would give this movie ten stars if I could! I thought it was that good. I was somewhat skeptical and prepared to be at least somewhat disappointed, but instead I was blown away. People in the theater clapped at some parts and heaved collective sighs at others. How often does that happen in a movie?
The casting was spot-on. I especially liked "Bones" and Spock. Yes, there were some inconsistencies from the old series/films, but the way they were well explained. The only other things I can say are "Go see this movie now!" and "When's the sequel?"

Does J.J. Abrams completely alter the Star Trek world with this movie? Yes. Will there be Trekkies who are horrified at this new look at Star Trek? Yes. Does that mean this is a bad movie? NO!!! This movie simply takes a well know sci-fi universe that in many ways has run its course and recreated it. The new looks at who Kirk, Spock, McCoy, Scotty, and the rest are was bold and refreshing. Long time Star Trek fans and non-fans alike will enjoy this movie.

Captures the spirit and essence almost perfectly!

I've been a fan since I was 10, so I was initially skeptical when they announced that they had recast the characters I knew and loved so well. I had nothing to fear. This exciting new group of actors -- and the production team -- clearly respected and understood these characters, and brought them to life in a very satisfying way, evoking all the best parts of what had come before without mimicking or imitating. The same thing goes for the big E herself as well as all the cultures and technology; they've been updated for a new generation, maintaining the spirit and essence of the originals while adding new and fascinating twists. I couldn't be happier, because it's clear that this beloved old franchise will continue to live long and prosper.

The End of Trekkies

The movies is for the most part fabulous but hard core trekkies will for the most part be lost in despair. This movie essentially only does one thing. Wipe the slate clean. All the countless books and trekkie conventions that have built up a "star trek canon" over the years are burned by this movie. Producers and creators are now free to re imagine star trek with a free hand. The harold and kumar guy as Sulu sucked. Get a new guy an actual Japanese actor would be cool. Same thing for Uhura the actres in the role is cool but an actual African actress would be better.

Whoo-hoo! JJ Abrams is a freakin' genius! He has captured the spirit of Star Trek with a perfectly selected cast and a believable plot to allow an alternate version. Still, it's the supporting players that get my notice:

Karl Urban's country-doctor persona as Leonard McCoy;

Simon Pegg's brilliant, mischievous Scotty (meaning no disrespect to the late, much beloved James Doohan);

Zoe Saldana's Uhura finally gets her props as a xeno-linguistics expert (as well as getting sparkage with Spock).

I'm thrilled to know that this cast has signed up for two more Star Trek flicks. The torch has indeed passed to a new generation, which is well able to carry the flame.

This movie is perhaps the best of the Star Trek Series. While the special fx are great and it is to be expected with movies now a days, the story line was well written. The actors were very well cast, especially "Bones". He captured the true essence of Dr. McCoy. The movie is action-packed, with very few moments for the viewer to relax yet it flowed smoothly enough so that you were absord with the total presentation of the film. If future Star Trek films and/or programs are this well wriitten and entertaining, we can rest assure that this franchise will be "go where no one has gone before".

Star Trek was very entertaining. The plot and action was top notch. From Chris Pine's Capt. Kirk, to Simon Pegg's Scotty. The new actors brought new life into the charactor's without seeming forced. The pace of the movie for 2 hours, 6 min. never slowed down. Even though some time was used to introduced the new cast, I can't wait to see how Director J.J. Abrams and his writers keep us fan interested in the series. WELL DONE !!!

Excellent movie, just what this older Star Trek fan was looking for.

There were moments where it was great to laugh along with my fellow tweens of the 1960's, and to think of how many tweens of today must be wondering what their parents were hearing that sounded so funny.

It seemed like there was plenty for younger viewers to enjoy and to become fans as well.

Can't wait for the sequel.

I am not a trekkie, I have never seen any of the Star Trek movies. I wasn't even planning on seeing this movie til the trailer showed up in Wolverine. Ok this movie was 10 times better than Wolverine, Sorry Hugh but Chirs Pine's charisma is much stronger than yours. His magnatism draws you to his character and pulls you into the story. Spock is played brilliantly by that guy from Heros. JJ Abrams rocks the SFX. Can't wait for the next one

I was extremely disappointed with the movie. I have read some of the reviews and I appear to be the minority.

First, the story line was off from the original series. Example Spock's mother is not dead in the original series but was killed in this release. How do you explain the existance of his mother if this is a prequel to the series?

Second, Captain Christopher Pike was not in a wheel chair as a result of the Romulans nor was he able to speak. He was also approximtely the same age as Captain Kirk in the original series.

There are other points in the movie that are inconsistent with the original series. Again, I was disappointed with the movie and unfortunately would not recommend it to anyone that enjoyed the original series.

No, I do not recommend this movie.
