JJ Abrams has saved the franchise. Leave it to the guy who came up with 2 of the best shows on TV (Lost, and Fringe) to put the Star Trek back in Star Trek. He went back to what made Star Trek 2, Star Trek 6, and First Contact great (Action, excellent story, and of course great one liners). Casting was superb. What can I say, Bravo!!!!!!

I have been a fan of all the Star Trek movies and all of the Star Trek series. The only thing missing were the Klingons! But, it was a very good, sit on the edge action movie. The plot was a good twist, with that mind warping alternate reality/time - space continuum thing going. If you know how the plot of the original series was, you will see what I mean. It was great and very exciting. Dr McCoy's character was played well, as all the others. I get the feeling there should be another movie coming soon. At least that would be my impression of the movie. With Klingons!

I am now going to say that J.J. Abrams is in the line of Spielberg and Lucas with this movie. The CGI, cast selection, and story line was phenomenal. I grew up in a household of Star Trek lovers and this movie is the best I've seen out of all of them. I can't wait to see what is next, thumbs up!

A very good movie, they were able to reset the Star Trek universe and keep the major characters mostly intact and keep the personalities and most well known lines for each character. All in all worth the $10 ticket price.

I didn't expect this movie to be as good as it was!! I'm not a big Trekkie but was looking forward to seeing how the characters met... where it all started. It was FUN! The characters were very well cast. This movie just.. worked for me! I saw it with a girlfriend on Mother's Day. I will go again as I told my husband he HAS to see it!

Unless you are James Tiberius Kirk that is! While the action was breathtaking, the movie was a bit short on plot. Really, another Star Trek movie that uses time travel to explain everything? I have seen every Star Trek movie and I am fine with the "changes" made to the series; they breathe new life into the franchise. However, I think the writers could have done a better job plot wise.
Now that I am done ranting, lets talk about how great this movie is. While the plot was lacking, the character development made me care about this series again. Kirk and Spock's relationship shows a true bond, and I can't wait to see the sequel to see how this plays. The writers did a great job with the dialogue.

I had low expectations, but enjoyed it from beginning to end. Not a boring moment, and that's saying something for a 2 hour movie. Chris Pine evokes the original Captain Kirk but doesn't do a caricature. He is excellent, as is the entire cast. I didn't recognize Wynona Ryder in her brief role, and it would be great to see her in more features overall because she's so talented. Glad they wrote Leonard Nimoy in, in a fairly sizeable part. As the prequel, you get a bit of a backstory on all the original characters you know and love. At this showing, there were people from age six to 80 enjoying it. Lots of fun. They did it right.

I have never been a big fan of the Star Trek tv shows or movies, but my husband loves them. The previews made the movie look really cool, but sometimes they can be deceiving. However, this movie lived up to the hype. It was fantanstic! It was action packed, had a good story and it was surprisingly funny. The actors did a good job of studying the roles and were true to the original characters, but with a younger twist. As a woman, it was a treat to see all these cute guys too! I would love to see a sequel down the road too. It is well worth the money and babysitter!

Ok I am an original series fan along with a fan of Voyager, Deep Space 9, TNG and Enterprise, I just cannot beleive that this movie cmpletely changed the way everything goes!!! I am not sure how I feel, but I did enjoy the movie a lot, so I will go see it again.

A great ride with all of the latest of Hollywood's special effects. Great writing with special attention to continuity threaded between past Star Trek episodes and generations. It's a whole new generation of writers and actors that could easily keep the franchise going for a long time.

I'm a Next Generation fan and never really watched the original series. But it doesn't matter if you're a Star Trek fan or not, you will LOVE this movie! Lots of action and keeps you on the edge of your seat the whole time.

WOW....I grew up watching the original series. This film is action-packed from start to finish. The special effects were dazzling, the dialogue was fantastic and often hilarious and the characterizations were spot-on. I came in with very low expectations because even as a die-hard Trekker, the past few films have been marginal at best. I will definitely see this movie again and can't wait for it to come out on DVD.

I'm one of those original Trek fans who had serious doubts about this movie. When I started seeing the previews on TV and at the theater, I thought, "hmmm, maybe it'll be okay." I was pleasantly surprised to find that I truly enjoyed the movie! I liked seeing a possible way that our favorite characters met for the first time. It took some getting used to seeing Quinto as Spock, since he's so strong as Sylar on "Heroes," but now I'm convinced. And I truly liked the "new" McCoy, having been a McCoy fan from the early series, which I watched in first-run. Overall, great performances, great plot and fantastic visuals!

Star Trek was great fun. I wouldn't call myself a Trekkie, but grew up on the original series. This movie stayed true to the original with great casting and great chemistry with the cast. Pine made a great young Kirk. Quinto as Spock was entertaining as were the rest of the cast. It was great to see Leonard Nimoy onscreen with Quinto. Only one scene with Kirk in bed with a girl, but no nudity, so easy to recommend to older kids, ie, teenagers. No gore, lots of action and great lines! I really appreciate the fact that they didn't need to use the "F" bomb as many movies do. I will go see this movie again and will add to my dvd library!!

My two adult sons decided this was just the movie to take me to for Mother's Day. I wasn't that excited as I was never a Trek fan - neither of them had seen the movie yet and I think that was the reason for the choice. HOWEVER - I LOVED this movie! It was fantastic and I think anyone would enjoy it. All the pieces fit and made a perfect whole. I went into the movie sure I would have a nice nap or be checking my watch every five minutes waiting for the misery to end. When I was kept on the edge of my seat and I was left wanting more.

The performances by all cast members were great. They are lovable and real. This will be the first of many movies, I hope. I always have a problem with time travel because it seems to be so easy to change the future. But, the original series occationally used this convention, so I can't fault the script too much. Aside from the time travel premise, EVERYTHING else was wonderful. Each main character was in touch with the original character. Mannerisms were spot-on. LOVED IT.

Strap your self in for a film that manages to meld action and character development while tackling the paradoxes of time travel and good old fashioned Romulan bad guys wreaking havoc. Nods to the old show are carefully peppered throughout, and worth a second look to count them all. Stellar preformances by Zachary Quinto (Spock) and Ben Cross (Sarek) looking like they were born into these roles. Also suprising is the appreance of Wynona Ryder as Spock's mother... who knew she was a Trekkie? Or is it Trekker? Regardless, just like next Generation there will be those that 'refuse to accept' this next incarnation of the Trek saga, but after Abram's success at the box office, it looks like Trek will live long AND prosper.

I have never watched the original Star Trek series, but I am vaguely familiar with the characters-- who isn't!? Not being a die hard fan, I have to say I got pretty excited about the movie. It did not disappoint! I was never bored (which often happens), and of course there was the requisite romance, and even some humor. We all clapped in the movie theater when it was over. I would recommend it to everyone and might even go see it again!

I loved it! It was action packed and even funny. I loved that they made sure to throw in catch phrases from the original show. What I thought was most interestig though was that all of the characters seemed to try and emulate their original characters, except for Capt. Kirk. He had a similar personality, but not a lot of his characteristics. It was great though! I am ready for a new Trek show to come out now!

Great movie! I thought it did the Star Trek legacy justice. Those who slammed the movie probably should lighten up! After all, it's just a movie. Good story, good visual effects based on great, already established, characters. As much as I love the original cast, I was glad NOT to see a lot of cameo appearances by them. In my opinion, it would have cheapen the movie. This movie needed to stand on it's own new young actors. Having the orginal Spock appear was enough. All 'n all, great movie!

Brilliant writing & Directing! As much as we love Star Trek, hearing about another film version is like hearing about another SuperMan film.. we went because my sister said it was phenomenal. It was! I can't believe that I am actually writing that I think I like it best of all the Star Trek stuff..(that's almost sacrilege).. We're in our 50's & loved Star Trek since we were kids. We also couldn't believe that they found a "Spock" & "Capt. Kirk" who nailed it with extraordinary, big screen characterization & brought the characters even more to life if possible.

This movie only lacks one thing... hard to see the ships fighting due to flying camera angles. Other than that, nothing is missing from this film. Even if you know nothing about Star Trek you will have fun experiencing it here.

Though I found myself pointing out some small technical consternations I had with the film, I thought the action was great and the myriad of stories and insider jokes were great. Kudos to the guy playing McCoy. He really had some of the mannerisms down. I hope they keep making more movies with this crew. They did a great job.

Forget everything you know about "Star Trek," just for a second. Forget about rabid fans in Borg costumes or speaking Klingon. Instead, think of what a good summer movie should be: fun, action-packed, great to look at. Throw in some Sci-Fi and a handful of characters you know, and you've got "Star Trek."
The performances all around were terrific, especially Karl Urban as the ornery Leonard "Bones" McCoy and Chris Pine as the iconic James T. Kirk. The latter has got Shatner's number.
The story is well-paced and the script is actually funny--intentionally. Even if you don't consider yourself a trekkie (or trekker), you'd be doing yourself a disservice by missing this movie. Live long and prosper.
