My wife and I watched the original series early in our marriage. We watched the different spinoffs. This movie is the real deal. Fun, excitement, drama, and all with characters you can believe in. Live long and prosper, STAR TREK.

J.J. Abrams has remade this old series using both poetic license and homage. The excitement level is at warp five throughout and for those who have been loyal trekies there are plenty of Easter eggs to tickle your fancy. Better still, if you are new to Star Trek, you're in for a thrill here. The cast is excellent and the way they are assembled to tell the story behind the story weaves a seemless tapestry explaining the backstory that gives this new version a sense of purpose. Sure you have to suspend your disbelief and accept a lot of questionable elements, but if you are willing, its well worth the effort. As the commercials say, "its not your father's Star Trek." Its more, much more! I can't wait for the next installment.

To All Trekkies,
I am sure that you would all agree that, the interesting turn of events that unfolded in thismovie, is totally surprising to everyone, but Due to the fact that it is a different generation, a good storyline and great special effects makes for a great movie, and this movie had it all. Just like any other Sfi-Fi stories including the Comic books, there are always changes to the stories to blend in with the generations.
All I can say is that you have to see it and see for yourself. Looking forward to the "Next Generation" Alternate Timeline.

Excellent special effects, but what really makes the movie is how the story ties togeather the other shows/movies of years past. "Sylar" from "Heros" made an excellent "Spock".

I want to start by stating, the movie had great acting and the effects were just as impressive. However, I don't know if I'm the only one, but without giving too much away, the idea of turning 40 years of Star Trek lore on its head is disturbing to me. The story was great, the idea of alternate universes and timelines is not new in the sci-fi genre, but the turns taken in this movie, to me go against what is accepted Star Trek mythology. Go see this movie but if you're a Trekker or even the casual fan just be prepared.

This is one of the best Star Trek movies, but still has a few flaws. The story is engaging and holds your attention throughout. The characters are a little more fun than in the original series because they are younger, more passionate and brash. The special effects and music are first rate. It is also interesting how the story ends with the potential for a whole new series of Star Trek adventures without having to worry about anything conflicting with a previous episode. My biggest complaint was several coincidences that were hard to believe. But, hey, it's fiction. Are warp drive and transporters that believeable either.

This is by far the best movie ever made to date. The action in this movie is intense. It is a well written script, a group of extremely talented actors, and an amazing director, J.J. Abrams. This movie blows any other star trek movie out of the water! It is an incredible story, and the CGI effects are beyond incredible. If you haven't seen this movie, see it. If you have, see it again. It is worth the extra price.

Finally-- a sci fi movie that appeals to all audiences! You don't have to be a trekkie to fall in love with the characters of this film, but a even a seasoned fan can leave satisfied that the integrity of the orginal was not only preserved, but accentuated by great special effects, and a contemporary cast. Humor, action, drama, suspense, and just great writing... I never thought it would be in prequel/ sequel? to Star Trek. I grew up with my dad watching this series, and I never thought I'd say it, but I'd definitely see it again in the theatres. In fact, I can see a whole new generation of fans develop if they keep this going.

Loved the movie. Being a trekkie from the original broadcast series in the 60's, I enjoyed the repartee, and pranks that the new movie revived. The only thing that I did not anticipate was the Uhura-Spock connection, but I did enjoy the new storyline. The FX were spectacular!!!. I really enjoyed the links to Spock Prime, and the young Spock who looks remarkably like the original Spock. I hope that this movie has many sequels. Live long and Prosper!!!

I think this movie, while most appealing to long term fans of the Star Trek universe, would work for almost any fan of fun summer action films. I think the casting across the board was superb, with all actors evoking the characters we know without slipping into parody - hard to do with such well known characters! I could quibble here and there, but I feel like I got my money's worth for sure - and I'd see it again!

I love action movies and I loved the Star Trek TV Series with William Shatner although I don't consider myself a Trekkie.
This movie was great - it was true to the characters of the original series but with a current day believability.

I simply must say here and now, What a Great two hours. Outside it was sunny and warm...inside dark and cool...and the most fun I have had thus far this year! Kirk, Spock and Bones came alive on the screen...The crew was the Center of the movie, while the story line had me holding on to the arm of my chair. When I left that afternoon, my thoughts were, how did the actors full it off? They all were great.

I'm a die hard fan of the franchise and grew up idolizing the Original Series -- esp, Mr. Spock. This movie exceeded my expectations with a suspenseful plot The action and battle sequences rocked! The characters were well developed -- loyal to the original but with enough twists (Spock & Uhura) to make the familar SO much more interesting. Good casting especially on Scotty and Sulu and giving them (& Chekov) plenty of key scenes to make them relevant. The diehards like me appreciate how Leonard Nimoy doesn't have a simple cameo but a TRUE ROLE. I'm so psyched for the sequel -- BRING ON the KLINGON! Good popcorn movie with loads of eye candy and entertaining substance in this handoff to a next generation.

I was hoping that I would like this Star Trek movie, and I really did. As a fan of the TV series, I enjoyed seeing how the orginal cast met. I wasn't comfortable with Spock kissing Ohura because it was so out of character. Who knew? It was great seeing the original Spock too. The action was great. I have recommended the movie to friends and family. I left hoping that they'll make a sequel to this one!
