I've grown up watching all of the episodes of Star Trek although I wouldn't call myself a Trekkie. I didn't like the other Star Trek movies too much but this one was GREAT!!!!! Plenty of action, you could relate to the characters and the storyline was phenomenal. The 2 hours flew by! I would definitely recommend this to everyone.

The effects are incredible but the story loses momentum towards the end. Lot's of interesting twists and turns. Worth seeing but not as good as I had hoped it would be.

Great way to launch the series again. The characters are better than the origionals - especially like the new Spock and Chekov. Having Leonard/Spock in the movie was a plus as well. Eagerly awaiting the next movie.

I am a Trekkie from way back. I have seen all of the Star Trek movies and TV shows. This is the only Star Trek movie that I can absolutely say I will be coming back for seconds and thirds! The writing was tight and the casting was right on. Who would have thought that Spock and Uhura could be lovers! Totally believable.

As a long time, back to the 60's, Star Trek fan, I hoped this would be good. I wasn't disappointed. This is a great "buddy" film that just happens to have great action and effects. The characterizations of the crew are well done, and the relationship between Spock and Kirk are very good. This is a great start to a new Star Trek franchise.

This was a great addition to the Star Trek series. The selection of the actors to play the young crew of the Enterprise was so good that they had total credibility to be seen as young Kirk, Spock, ect.

Apparently the writers and producers found the Star Trek history and character relationships to be inconvenient and so resorted to the device of having history changed. In so doing they have lost my trust as a viewer of any future episodes. What's next? Do they get rid of the Prime Directive?

This relaunch kept to the original enough to please any old fans and still added some new qualities to make the newer viewer get easily hooked. All the cast was chosen well and they lived up to their original counterparts...but I must give extra credit to Karl Urban for the exceptional characterization of Dr. McCoy. He was the only actor in the movie who nailed the original character's persona on the head. They took some liberties on the continuity of the story but explained the differences so well throughout the plot, any old Trekkies won't mind it at all. Hands down the best Trek movie made to date and I hope to see more of this Star Trek movie magic quality either on the silver screen or my home screen weekly.

I knew from watching the trailer that this was a winner. The humanistic and alien mix is such that all can enjoy this movie (even those with no appreciation for sci-fi ). Those with a deep background in early Star Trek (ST) flicks will enjoy the back n' forth mental references between the early ST newbies, and the seasoned (past) cast. All in all, I have to see this movie AGAIN!
One question: should there be a sequel?

This movie does an excellent job setting up the Star Trek characters. The casting is excellent and very believable. The special effects are also amazing, although they make the original series' effects even more laughable by comparison.
One too many fist fights and gratuitous bloody noses, but otherwise a nice addition to the Star Trek franchise.

Oh what a ride this movie is. I thoroughly enjoyed the non-stop-Abrams-Experience. The movie does not let up for a moment. I was at the edge of my seat the entire 2 hours.
The movie never bores you, no long winded love scenes, no dramatic queit pauses... just bad guys, good guys, and characters you love.
The Casting is sensational. I think the best one is Dr. McCoy.
As for the cheese, they managed to cover EVERY single funny line or snap from the original series.
This movie is funny, entertaining and I must admit, I was choking up with tears in my eyes for the first 20 minutes.
10 Stars!

J.J. Abrams and company have made a Star Trek film equally accessible to long-time fans and those new to the series. The action and drama are also well balanced with plot exposition and humor. Good acting, sometimes great, good character development. Good pacing, despite length. Great effects and action. On the downside: a re-hashed plot from a ST:Voyager episode ("Year of H*ll"), some plot devices (supernova that threatens the galaxy; huh?), and some plot inconsistencies (black holes in the early part of he film cause starships to time travel; black holes in the late part of the film cause starships to blow up). I'm willing to overlook the flaws in favor of the positives. But disappointed that Abrams couldn't get tighter, given his budget and timeline. Some of his weekly plots on Lost have fewer seams.

JJ abrams does a fantastic job walking a constant line with this movie. He walks the line perfectly between keeping it fresh and new while also staying true to the original. He keeps it action packed and thought provoking at the same time. Funny any thrilling.

This movie was great and I am not a huge Trek follower.
They did a great job with the cast - not only are they all nice to look at but they are pretty decent actors too.
The special effects were great - nothing over the top but enough to remind you that this is a Sci-fi movie.
And although I am told that there are some problems with the storyline being too unbelieveable, I thought that it was perfect. Action for the guys, a little love scene for the girls and humour for everyone.

Star Trek has been re-introduced with a new and exciting look and feel to it.
I felt the visual experience (sets, shots) was amazing without being over-done by special effects.
It seemed for years Star Wars held the #1 spot in regards to space action movies. I believe this is no longer the case.
