Good story and good characters = great movie

The right length, a well written story/screen play, and characters that make you want to care about them. All of this - in an aninmation movie! The music also adds a lot, but you will realize that when the movie is over. Be sure to stay for the credits as well.
We saw the 3D version, which is better than our last experience a few years back. But, I would enjoy it as much with/without the 3D.

Ron Howard is a great story teller

I almost missed this picture due to the poor critic reviews and all the fuss over the "truth" of the story. As Ron Howard and Tom Hanks have stated - this is fiction. Just enjoy the story. And we did.
I liked this better than the DaVinci files, and recommend it to anyone who wants to go to a movie and be entertained. No great social issues, no historical insight, just entertainment. And that is what I seek.
The length looked long - but was just right. There were no lulls at midway or in the last 30 minutes. Be sure to see this movie!

The franchise is reborn

Great way to launch the series again. The characters are better than the origionals - especially like the new Spock and Chekov. Having Leonard/Spock in the movie was a plus as well. Eagerly awaiting the next movie.

Poor story, directing, and ending

This movie has an interesting premise and some good acting that is wasted on a poor script and an over indulgent director that lets the movie run on and on for 2 plus hours and then has no idea on how to end it. I recommend that no one waste their time or money seeing this.

Well done parallel earth sci fi

First, I am neither a "fan boy" nor had I read the graphic novel. I learned what I needed from the movie during the flahbacks and opening sequences. Living through the 60s helps gives some perspective that younger people might miss. The music selections were great.
There are two types of Sci Fi movies - those made by and for non-sci fi people, and those made by and for dedicated sci fi readers. This is definitely the latter.
The time was longer then I prefer, but it did not lag as some overly long movies do. The plot and subplots kept moving forward.
The casting was great.

This is a great escapist movie to just relax and enjoy. The shorter time does not allow the movie to bog down - kudos to the editing. It is a well told story - of course actionized wrt what the actors do to each other - but this is action at its best.
