This back-in-time adventure is sprinkled with humor and pathos, and liberally doused with over-the-top action. The hand-held camera is at times so jumpy a Dramamine is suggested for those with motion sickness. All in all a very entertaining movie with a perfect cast. Perhaps the sequels will forgo a bit of the violent action in favor of greater character development and interaction.

Finally, a remake of a classic TV series that wasn't too "Hollywood", and really kept you interested throughout the movie (had to go to the bathroom, and didn't want to go!)

I am by no means a "Trekie", but I loved this movie. I had not see any of the original movies and had only seen a handful of the original series. This movie had a great story, great special effects, and good acting. Syler was a great Spock! Go see this movie, you won't regret it. I can't wait for the next one!

As a Trekie for over 35 years, this movie is the best movie yet! Constant action, hints of old episodes and movies and famous one liners. Fun for all ages. My daughter who never cared to watch an episode believes it was the best action movie she has ever seen. This movie will start an entire new generation of Star Trek fans. See the movie, you will find it worth the money. P.S. many fans clapped at the end of the movie, giving it the clap of approval.

Without spoilers, it can be said as it has been said before..."Best STAR TREK movie ever". Fans of the work of JJ Abrams will see his signature style and pacing, coupled with an excellent sountrack and seeing characters you knew be given the respect they deserve in this full REBOOT of Paramount's new re-annointed "cash cow". After seing this movie, you will say that these type of TREK MOVIES needs to "Live Long and Prosper"!

I went to the theater thinking this was going to be a prequel to the television series, I was wrong. The movie was action packed with a bit of humor injected into the movie in a way that Star-Trek fans will appreciate and likely be the ones to pick up on the subtlety of that humor. I thought the casting was great and all the actors were very true to their predecessor's characters without imitating them. There may be a few disappointments to the die-hard Trekkies in the story line.I thought the movie was fantastic. Definitely a movie that I will own when it is released on Blue-Ray.

Opening scen moved me greatly. Decent story. Funny lines from Spock: "You're in my chair". Yay, Bones and Scotty.
My Number One peeve: J.J. Abrams has what in cinematography is called a "flare" (blinding light) in almost every scene! In the old days, a flare was a MISTAKE, a no-no, and might lead to a reshoot of that scene. Flares are (a) distracting, (b) repetitive, and (c) hurt my eyes 3000 or 4000 times.
Spock and Uhura kiss in the Transporter Room? On a military vessel? It's not a pleasure cruise!
SOUND? OVER 100dB.

smashes the old saw about odd-numbered star treks being inferior.
Second, it's true they depart from the canon in some ways, but they explain the differences and are well aware of them. It's like the TNG episode "Yesterday's Enterprise".
this film is reminiscent of Wrath of Khan. Like TWOK, this is put together by a star trek "outsider" but one who knew how to make entertainment while paying homage to the franchise.
the actors are terrific, I especially like Krik and McCoy. They clearly spent time watching the original actors and their tics and do an admirable job alluding to them without parodying them. It's also wonderful to hear the "first time" the many star trekisms are uttered, "are you out of your vulcan mind" and so on.

It is a good movie. JJ Abrahams created a good story line that has nice ties to the existing Trek lore. The actors were believable in their roles, a very tough task as most fans know the characters as well as they know their families. The special effects were good and did not overtake the storyline.
I think Gene Rodenberry would be proud.

Of all the sci-fi movies I've seen this is the first to keep me on the edge of my seat since Return of the Jedi. The action was fast-paced and exciting from start to finish. The base characters were very well cast. None of them could be classified as over-acting or a mockery of the original cast. When Leonard Nimoy appeared I actually started clapping. His appearance gave more realism to the movie and tied together the long-standing animosity between Vulcans and Romulans which I never quite understood. I had only been a fan of the Star Trek: Next Generation era, but this movie far surpassed First Contact which had been my favorite in the series. What a wonderful kickoff to the summer blockbusters! Live long and prosper.

I am NOT a trekkie in any way,shape,or form. I never watched the show when Shatner was Kirk, never watched the new STNG series, and had no desire to see this movie. I only went as a date night with my husband. I LOVED this movie! I was pleasantly surprised, in more ways than one. The characters were perfect, there were enough twists and suspense to keep me wanting more, and I am anxiously awaiting a sequel. I recommend this movie to everyone.

We are old trekkies-loved the TV shows and (most) of the Star Trek movies. This film took what we knew of the beginning and stayed pretty true to it. The actors were well cast in keeping with what we know of them as grownups. It was fun as how they all ended up aboard the Enterprise. There is plenty of action, a little romance and a good story line. Must see in the theater on the big screen, and you will rent it when it comes to the little screen to go back over all the details time and time again.

Never had any interest in seeing the other Star Trek movies, they seemed like they were just trying to do something bigger, more effects. This movie is well done, actors are great in the roles, liked that they "explained" how the original characters all got together on the Enterprise, with a little twist. Already told a friend I'd see it again if she wanted to go see the movie. Great job!
