Nice movie follows the movie themes, and they explain away the inconsistencies with the original series with the time travel interference. However, in the original series, many of the referred character building events were even less than glossed over leaving many unanswered questions by the events in this particular movie. such as comodore pike's original number one, as well as no mention of the forbidden planet? In of itself the movie was good but the tie ins were severely lacking!

Overall this was a great movie. I think both Star Trek fans and newcomers alike, will find something they like. My only issue was Chris Pine, he had the young Kirk look but did not pull off the Kirk smoothness! All other actors filled the shoes perfectly! The guy playing Spock was nothing short of the perfect choice!

JJ Abrams has reinvented Start Trek for a new audience. By creating an event horizon he redirected Star Trek. Now there can be new conflicts and adventures for J.T. Kirk and the NCC 1701's crew. The movie was awesome, pandoring to the old audience while pulling in a fresh new one. I'm sorry to say, there trully was no room for Shatner in this movie. Nimoy gave credibility to the story as well as a familiar face. I Must agree that some of the events that occured were never brought to fruition in the series. But with some poetic justice it could be understood that the events that occured in the movie just had not happened yet during the series. Not only did the movie move at a fast pace.It will keep you on the edge of your seat.

This movie fulfills the promise that the Star Wars prequels did not live up to. It uses all of the best technology to give you a truly unforgettable Space Adventure. It's fast-paced, witty, intense, and winning in every regard of production. A must-see that deserves a sequel... or rather, many sequels.

I went with my bf because I like action movies BUT I knew very little about Star Trek. I liked this movie because it explained where the "crew" came from and it was very entertaining. The special effects were awesome and I think J.J. Abrams did a great job!!! I love one his shows right now so I figured why not see his movie? Glad I did, way worth it!

WATCH "WRATH OF KAHN!" first to truly appreciate this film. From the first shot you're pulled into the familar world of Star Trek . Without giving anything away, the writers actually managed to create a whole new storyline without dismissing the stories we've come to know and love. Everything was done in fine-tuned Star Trek fashion. Excellent casting! Outstanding effects - the kind that only ILM has ever been able to deliver. Plenty of ommages to the original series as well. As a hard core star Wars fan, I find it ironic that it took George Lucas' achievements in the film industry to make Gene Roddenerry's vision reach the peak it has here. SEE IT and then SEE IT AGAIN!

My husband wanted to see this movie, and so I agreed. I am not a trekkie (have actually never even seen a full episode of Star Trek), but found myself very immersed in the story line. Great action, good suspense, not so out there than a non sci-fi fan can't appreciate it.
My husband, who was definitely more familiar with all of the story lines, really enjoyed it. You don't have to have knowledge of the series to enjoy this movie, though it does make it that much better. Would recommend...

It took several years but Paramount found the way to reinvigorate life into the faltering Trek franchise, all with a wunderkind and his name is JJ Abrams. This movie is a great way to hit that great reset button in the sky, while at the same time keeping the sensibility and the overall tone of the original. The new 'youhger' crew is the same crew that we all know and loved from the originals, but with more energy. Great movie, for fans and non fans alike

I thought the movie was very, very good...but my wife who went in with very low expectations thought it was great!
The movie was action packed...the new characters are awesome: Jim Kirk is better than ever, Uhura is gorgeous, Scotty is brilliant, Spock finally got his heart, Chekov and Sulu were bright and fun...McCoy's still grumpy.
It's an alternate Star Trek universe (for the purists) but a great start on the way to reinventing, refreshing and revitalizing the franchise.

Abrams did justice to all characters, surroundings, bringing the old sounds to the new setting - it was awesome and by far, way better than any Star Wars movies (and believe me - I thought NOTHING could top Star Wars). Abrams made the story line simple for newbies to follow - my teen daughter, young adult son, and all their friends have already seen the movie 2 and 3 times. We can't wait for the new movie to release, and hope Abrams will bring back all the same characters. After all, that's what makes Trek so likeable - to feel like the cast and crew are your own family members. Way to go, Abrams, and everyone involved in the making of Star Trek!!

I loved this movie - I found it satisfying on a lot of levels. The actors did a good job of channeling their respective characters from the series but without being caricatures. The 'alternate reality' premise accounted for the changes to the background of the original stories while opening the door for new story lines. I had to suspend my disbelief about some of the weird science that didn't make sense (red matter!...?) but it wasn't that hard seeing as everything else was so darn fun. Not great cinema - but just a really good action flick. LOVED IT

This movie would have been perfect, for the great actor's, the charactors they play and the endless action scenes. It has one flaw, the story. It does not match up at all with the Star Trek series, with four incidents that never happened in the history of Star Trek. This movie was to start of the franchise again and doing so changed the history of Star Trek as we know it.

The movie was even better than I expected...the new actors were very true to the characters and the effects were great without being so over the top as to be unbelievable. Of course you're going to have a handful of Trekkie purists who can't stomach a new interpretation of the classic Trek cast and story, but if it's good enough for Nimoy it should be good enough for them. They need to get over it.

By far, the best Trek movie. There was action, adventure, humor, and great acting. There were even some unexpected twists.

IF this was the only Star Trek you watched, OK. The premise of the movie is an Alternate Universe. Now anyone that does not like plot line of a Star Trek story can just present their version of an Alternate Timeline. This movie negates the entire Star Trek Timeline after Star Trek Enterprise. I was very disappointed in the ending of the movie. I presume it was done to allow a new story line without having to adhere to the original Star Trek Series, New Generation, Deep Space Nine, and Voyager.

This was a great addition to the Star Trek franchise. It held true to the characters and had a great story line. Even if people are not 'Trekies', they will still be able to follow this movie and find it entertaining and enjoyable. I cannot say enough about how good this movie is. I was impressed with the portrayal of each character. Each actor was well suited for the part they played by not only staying true to the character but adding their subtle touches. I hope this means the franchise is reborn since they've rewritten the history of the Star Trek Universe. I will always love the original and all those that followed, but I feel a renewed interest with this new crew.

This was an excellent job of telling the beginnings of Kirk and crew without invalidating the storyline of the original TV sereis and previous films. Excellent script, casting, effects and film! A great summer movie. Bring on the sequel!

Quick Summary: Great characters, brilliant special effects, tight writing, 90% of the performances are fantastic. Plenty of nods to the Star Trek canon for fans, but even complete neophytes can enjoy the film.
Eric Bana grates as Nero, but his screen-time is blessedly short, and he's completely eclipsed by Zachary Quinto's Spock.
For Parents: Brief sexuality and a fistfight in a bar may make you think twice -- the story, however, deals admirably with issues like grief, loss, sticking by your friends, and doing what's right even when it's hard. If I had kids aged eight or older, I'd take them.
Running Time: 2 fast hours and 7 'Is it over already?' minutes.
