The length may throw you off, but it isn't a factor with this movie once it begins. Robert Downey Jr. holds your attention when he is the only actor on-screen and makes the character believable and enjoyable to watch. Jeff Bridges appears on-screen early in the movie and I didn't recognize him save for his voice! He, too, wears the character like a second skin and is the one you love to hate. Gwyneth Paltrow is delicious as Pepper! Overall the impact of the movie: special affects, action, dialogue, soundtrack, presentation are spectacular! We left the movietheater thinking of our own 'Iron' names (irongirl, ironpuppy, ironturtle, etc) for every person and/or pet in our house!

I took my 11 yr. old son and his friends, and I was happy that the movie had lots of action, lots of clean but witty comedy, just in overall an amazing experience. I am so glad I saw it and that I didn't have to feel bad of exposing my kid of inappropriate stuff. Go see it!

Building the plot took a little time but the last 2/3s of the movie was fun and exciting. Little bad language, almost no bed scenes makes me want to see more movies like this one. I want to see it again ( and again ).

I have been waiting for this movie to come out for a long time. I heard about it long ago and waited to see it. I saw it last night and as I was walking I worried that since I'd waited for so long, would this be worth all of that anticipation. It TOTALLY was. Best movie since Transformers in my opinion. One of those movies where seeing it at home would never do this movie justice if you didn't first see it on the big screen.

It is not often that a new movie lives up to the pre-release hype, but Iron Man exceeded my expectations. I have been a long time fan of the comic book series and was ready to be disapponited by the film. This movie rocked! It had a great story, excellent acting and was very well paced allowing for the occasional re-capture of breath before plunging onward. Overall I'd highly recommend the film to anyone.

AS a serious Marvel comic reader since 1972 I must say that not since the first Spider-Man has a movie captured the truth of the comic book. Iron Man was one of my least favorite comics but addictive as a child. This movie has made my top ten movie list. My children LOVED it, I liked it a lot. I would recommend all Fathers to take their sons to the movies. This is one that captures all the male-bonding needed to bridge the gaps of generations. There are the sports cars, the creativity, the action and the gadgets. Yes, GO SEE IRON MAN!

It was my hubby's turn to pick the Friday night movie, and he chose Iron Man. Being female and not growing up with this comic book, I did not know what to expect. However, I was very pleasantly surprised! Robert Downey Jr. did an excellent job as Tony Stark. All the characters were believable and edgy. The plot was intriguing and intense. Of course, the good guy wins in the end, so what more could you want from a movie??

I went to see Iron Man last night, and as a fan of the Marvel comic, I am impressed. They had to update the story somewhat for modern times(Afghanistan instead of Vietnam) , but they stuck pretty well to its roots. The movie is packed with action and has its comical moments as well. The characters were played well, in particular seeing Jeff Bridges as Obadiah Stane (a much different character than "The Dude" ). The special effects were particularly well done, MUCH better than other Marvel movies such as the cartoonish Hulk and certain scenes in the Spider-Man films.
I would definitely recommend this film to just about anyone. There are some pretty intense war scenes and a brief lovemaking scene (nothing really vulgar or offensive), so you may want to leave the very young children (maybe under 10) at home, but otherwise I'd say it's safe.

Jon Favreau makes excellent action film directoral debut aided by excellent acting, excellent screenplay, excellent editing, excellent cinematography,and well placed comic relief that will take its place among the elite of not only this years best movies but will vie for historical comparisons of best special effects (computer generated or otherwise) and/or comic book movies of all time.

I was kinda skeptical about seeing this movie in the beginning. I am not too familiar with the iron man character. Well, the movie definitely impressed me. I thought it was well done. Robert Downey jr. did a really good job and the outfit looked sick. The movie was entertaining to me from beginning to end. I definitely recommend.

Best Marvel movie since the first X-Man. Great acting. Funny. Very, very cool special effects. lt is a story and message that will appeal to people of all ages. The only reason I didn't give it five stars is because since it is based on a comic book, it still had some cheesy elements in it. Such as Tony Starks somehow not noticing that his assistant is pretty hot (Gwyneth Paltrow), until half way through the movie. Meanwhile, he seems to want to make it with anything that has two legs. But that's minor. The movie was very entertaining.

Well worth the 9.00 investment for a Friday night diversion. Marvel Studios had done it again. Im not gonna put spoilers in this reveiw but RObert Downey, Jr. was excellent as Tony Stark. The plot line is VERY timely . You MUST go see this movie as soon as possible. And its definately on my buy list of DVDs when it comes out and hopefully with extras.

I have been so absorbed with my DVD-by-mail membership that I noticed it'd been more than a month (2?) since I'd been to a theater for a flick. Boy, am I so glad it was Iron Man I went to see - especially on the Big Screen! What a very pleasant suprise this film was! Downey's true-life speckled past (and talent) made him the best man for this role of a Corporate Executive (Owner/Genious/Mechanical wonder) who blindly follows the steps of his father (Company founder) in the business of weapons design and manufacture and literally with trial by fire sees the error of his ways and in the process becomes a hero of sorts, righting some of wrongs caused by his unexamined life. Loved the special affects and the sensation of flight (however mechanically aided - hey - lets be real) and the hard rock zepplin style drums and theme Music - Iron Man. The simmering (unaddressed) relationship between the gazillionaire Downey and his live-in "right hand gal" Gwyneth Paltrow strongly lends itself for sharp focus in future sequals and I "way" look forward to it. His milatary friend is also an excellent actor. What a fine cast this is. This time, it really is a recipe for success. Also, there's some great humor this film and you'll have some good chuckles if the huge audience of children doesn't completely take over the theater. Perhaps, a later showing would be more conducive to your enjoyment. I laughed, I cried. I smell a sequal! Hurry to the theater, buy your ticket on-line to guarantee a seat!

I may be biased - I have at least 12 years worth of "Iron Man" comics sitting in my closet. Iron Man has been a favorite character for a long time. I know the backstory of these characters well - I even know the story of Jon Favreau's character in the comics, and what he did before he was Stark's driver. So I can say with some surety that this cinematic adaptation is remarkably faithful to the source material; however, Favreau's direction and the skill of the cast gave me moments of suspense and humor and elation and joy. Every aspect of this movie made me look at these characters that I've known for a long time with fresh eyes.
As with any summer fare, this is effects laden. However, they are crafted so well you can't obviously pick out what's CG and what's real. The armor looks fantastic - as if it leapt off the pages of the Marvel comic. The set pieces are also phenomenal. We've seen flying superheroes for years - how many dogfights with FA-22's?
But the best part of the movie is the cast. Having Robert Downey, Jr. play Tony Stark is/was an inspired choice. He brings depth and complexity and humor to the character of Tony Stark. Gwyeth Paltrow was the picture of elegance as Pepper Potts, and the almost always excellent Jeff Bridges pulled off something I don't know if I've seen in a comic book movie adaptation - a subtle villain (well, until the big fight scene). Terence Howard, though, may have given the best performance - as James Rhodes, Tony Stark's combative best friend. The hint dropped at the climax of the film as to his character's future leaves me downright giddy. All of these actors are excellent. In lesser hands all of the characters would have come off as bland and uninteresting, but all of the characters - even Leslie Bibb's glam reporter - are very well rounded and complex. Last but certainly not least, credit goes to the writers who gave all of these actors intelligence and wit. I think there's a lot of fodder here to think about and discuss.
The bar has been raised for crafting a comic book movie.

Most Comic book-turned movies have the problem of poor character development, weak plot, bad dialogue. While there are a few bad one-liners ("Yeah... I can Fly"), the story is strong and keeps you interested through the entire 2 hour run time. There is not an overwhelming over use of CG and and Robert Downey Jr. seems to be a great fit for the "Stark" character. PS... stay tuned after the credits for a peek into the sequel.

Went in with high hopes that this would be a great movie. I was not disappointed at all! Plot was developed well; pacing was very good (kept my attention the entire 2 hrs 6 min); excellent special effects; great casting and performances. This movie is not for little kids, but older kids (around 12? & up) should be able to handle without any problems (violence, blood, & some adult elements). I never read the comic as a kid, but seeing this movie makes me want to go back and read it now. I'll definitely see this one again at the theaters.

BE CAREFUL! If you are opposed to things like men dressed in metal armor flying around in the sky and SLAUGHTERING EVILDOERS to the sound of HEAVY, WAILING GUITARS, you will TOTALLY HATE THIS. You will scoff at this. If that is the case, I suggest you go back to your lame art movies about art and the artists that make it because Iron Man, he's totally straight. He is a rich dude who has carnal relations with totally hot girls. He makes bombs capable of leveling stone walls like it is NOTHING. NOTHING I TELL YOU. He has a friend who is a general in the army. This general, he's probably done some pretty awesome stuff, but Iron Man, he doesn't even care. He's like "Man, you need to shut up, let's have some whisky" and that general? HE TAKES THESE ORDERS AND DRINKS THAT FINE WHISKY. Then he meets some terrorists, and they tell him to build a rocket. Does he listen? NO WAY! He's all "okay yes I will build your rocket for you" then instead he builds a SUIT OF METAL and KILLS THEM FOR FUN. Then he decides that suit isn't all that awesome, and he builds a new one and continues on a HEROIC DEATH SPREE, liberating innocents. He flies and he shoots people in the head with some kind of insane ROBOT MAGIC. Also, that general? He's going to have a metal suit in the next movie! His name will be WAR MACHINE. Could there be a better name for a superhero? NO. THERE COULD NOT. So if you like awesome things, you should see Iron Man, but if you just like boring things you will probably just scoff and/or cry. So DO NOT BE IN THE THEATER WHEN I SEE THIS. Also, Gwyneth Paltrow makes a HOT REDHEAD. YEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAH!

This was great my kids loved it. me and my husband loved it. Its been a long time since I've actually enjoy a movie that had this much build up. It was better than we thought it would be. Worth seeing again.
