Different - Arty - Dark

This movie isn't for everyone. No doubt that critics will like it because it's dark and different. (Critics love dark and different. That's why they like foreign films so much. I digress).
A friend told me about this movie before I saw and I didn't think I'd like it. I was pleasantly surprised to find I liked it very much. The theme of the movie has to do with an artist putting passion into their art to the degree that they become the art. Unfortunately, that profound theme will be lost on most people because of the sex and strangeness of the movie. Don't expect to laugh or cry in this one. Expect to be surprised, uncomfortable and moved.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

I really tried to like this movie. I've always liked Anne Hathaway. To me she's always had a sort of innocent and understated sexuality that I find appealing. This movie was anything but innocent and understated. In fact; the movie might better be named IN YOUR FACE, OVER THE TOP, SEX, LOVE AND DRUGS...AND MORE DRUGS.
I disliked the movie from the moment it started until the last ten minutes, which I liked. I've never seen a movie try so hard to be funny, to be shocking, to do anything to keep your attention. Every scene was designed to keep you riveted. Unfortunately, the result was a movie that was all effect with very little substance.
The only thing that saved it was Hathaway and Gylenhaal. These are two good actors. Too bad the script and direction didn't do them justice.
There's lots of nudity and swearing. Tthe F word is used often. If these things bother you, you might want to stay away.
That said, there were some touching and almost profound moments near the movie's end.
No, I do not recommend this movie.

Not so good, but attention grabbing

I went to this movie because I thought the premises sounded interesting. The genre was listed as "Action/Adventure." Not true. This is a horror flick. The plot had enough potential to be intriguing, but instead, the director chose shock over substance. By the end of the movie, my wife and I were laughing because of how predictable it was. As soon as things got quiet on the screen we knew something was going to jump out at us, accompanied by a shriek or some other annoying sound at full volume.
That said, I must admit it did keep my attention and the acting was better than in most horror movies.
No, I do not recommend this movie.

Best Marvel movie since the first X-Man. Great acting. Funny. Very, very cool special effects. lt is a story and message that will appeal to people of all ages. The only reason I didn't give it five stars is because since it is based on a comic book, it still had some cheesy elements in it. Such as Tony Starks somehow not noticing that his assistant is pretty hot (Gwyneth Paltrow), until half way through the movie. Meanwhile, he seems to want to make it with anything that has two legs. But that's minor. The movie was very entertaining.
Yes, I recommend this movie.
