My partner fell asleep on the first 45 minutes but as the revealing of the main character began we both were surprised and enjoyed the second half of the movie. If it was not Damon it would have been a disaster but this shows he can put a weak script on the screen and make it shine.

I expected much better. Matt Damon played the role very well, BUT it was slow-moving and all the funny parts were in the previews. Honestly, the funny parts seemed funnier in the previews than when watching the movie. Disappointing, but I might have paid $1 to get it out of a redbox or something.

I had high hopes for this movie. The trailor made it look very interesting. However, it ranks as one of the most disappointing movies I've ever seen. It was slow, not particularly gripping, and failed to keep my interest. My wife fell asleep during the movie. I know they were going for a specific affect, but it caused the movie to plod along. It tried to be funny, but wasn't quite.... It tried to be a gripping drama, but it wasn't quite.... It tried to be well acted, but again it wasn't quite. I give it a grade of D+.

Yeah...Matt Damon and the cast were outstanding. I think the humor had its moments but left me confused because I was laughing and then all of a sudden, I was feeling bad for the main character- I don't think I should have felt bad for him at the end of the day. Not to mention, my other half passed out during the show and that was not induced by fatigue.
I think this should have been a drama focused movie without the facade of a comedy. I would have liked it much better if I didn't expect roll-on-the-floor-laughs.
Tough sell for me now; I would wait till the DVD came out and rent it as I give this two out of five stars.

I was very excited about seeing this movie; the previews made it look like it would be hilarious. It definitely had funny moments, many of which were shown in the previews, but it felt like it was dragging on a bit. The movie was not as fast-paced as I would have liked; it was kind of like Catch Me If You Can on downers. Matt Damon is very good in it, given the material- actually all the acting is good. However, I would definitely not recommend seeing this in the theaters, but it could make for a good rental.

Decent entertainment, but the book and recording on this american life better. Funny portions from TAL missing: e.g., in Maui, when FBI agents are knocking on door, they kid, "I bet that's the FBI" when in fact that's who it was. And then how he convinces them to meet in Maui is not as well portrayed in the movie. And in the book, his manic behavior is much more clear, e.g., sweeping his driveway at 3 am.

Matt Damon is fantastic and Melanie Lynskey is a great new discovery --- the whole cast is so strong. I would have loved more Tony Hale. Soderbergh allows us a chance to begrudgingly laugh at the greed and corruption and sickness that makes the modern day world go round, but he doesn't take it lightly. For a change, we get 2 gov't characters that we don't hate (Bakula & McHale) and a corporate, greedy (misguided? incredibly smart?) protagonist who keeps us on the verge of hate and like. The inner dialogue of Damon alone is worth witnessing. There are slow moments, but it suits the movie and the subject.

Well if you think that the musical score (in this case from Marvin Hamlish) can actually make a movie funny or at least interesting, then this is the movie for you.
It was just weird listening to either Ragtime or Austin Powers type music accompanying dialogue in which there is absolutely nothing funny or even the least bit humorous. It's as if the director is saying to the audience, "Ok, my movie sucks, but perhaps you'll like this lighthearted musical score that ole' Marvin has cooked up for us". By the way, how may chins does Marvin have by now?

The negative reviews on this website may influence your decision to watch the whole movie. I almost walked out twice based on what I read. I waited. Was it worth the wait? Let me put it like this; this is a movie lover's movie. If you liked Russell Crowe in The Insider, well, this is no Insider. But it could have been. Catch Me If You Can? Yes, that's a good comparison, but this is no CMIYC. In a nutshell, this movie did not get interesting until the end. William H. Macy would have been a better selection for this movie. He usually plays these type roles. Should you go see it? That's a tough question. I went early in the morning, it cost $6 and I had some free time. When I saw this film the audience laughed throughout. The friend I went with was mumbled that Matt Damon's character was a jerk and a dummy but I thought she was missing the point. The point being - he was mentally ill. This was an amazing story of a genius whose mind operated a mile-a-minute and kept hundreds of balls in the air at the same time. Once he started to confuse even himself he submitted to the inevitable. Until that point it was a rolicking journey. The stand-out was Damon's acting. The supporting cast was great. It was overall a fun couple of hours. I walked out wanting to know more about the actual guy and will now seek out his book. Go and enjoy it - not pick it apart!

He's perfect as a bipolar ADM executive selling corn to us, the FBI, and his superiors - who may or may not know when he's telling the truth. The fact that this is based upon a real story and a real sociopath makes it all the more juicy. Enjoy!

I really liked this movie. It had an over-the-top humor yet the characters had real issues. Matt Damon's character was funny but complicated - great acting. Scott Bakula was understated and it worked. This movie has a particular sense of humor - cheeziness - you'll either laugh or consider it tacky.

I enjoyed this movie. Made me laugh. Matt Damon was funny. The whole cast was good but I loved the wife Ginger (Melanie Lynskey from "Two and A Half Men"). I mean her husband kept buying cars and she never said a word. I do think Steven Soderbergh tried to hard to be campy but it worked. Plus George Clooney was one of the producers, can't go wrong with that.

Slow pace, odd and mistimed reveals of plot points, confusing dialogue, and some random humor throughout the plot. Oh wait, I'm in another Soderbergh movie . . . I shouldn't have hoped for more than this. Matt Damon does a great job creating a character, but after you're past looking at Good Will Bellyfat, you don't have much of a movie left. Don't waste your time or money.

Anybody who is ever worked at the upper levels of management knows that this is closer to reality than not and could probably relate to many of the characters in the movie! Obviously everything was embellished to get the humor level up but I really enjoyed how close to reality this movie played.

It's a Soderbergh movie so you should know what to expect....
Humor was dry and witty, no major plot twists here. Matt Damon plays a very likeable character (I can't say more for fear of giving away the plot). All of the actors performances were great.
Enjoyed the movie though I can't recomend it as a 'must see'.
