Wow it started out loud and scarey and as I watched my 4 yr old grandson he had his hands to his ear, sorta kinda scared, but not really, he was totally enthalled in the movie and as he began to know the characters, both the Vikings and the Dragons, he was totally enchanted.
During flying scenes he would whoop it up and encourage Dark Fury to fly faster and higher, during the fight scenes he was practically standing and raring to jump in and help.
He left the theatre completely satisfied with the experience.

I took my 5 year old son and 4 year old daughter to this movie. It was enjoyable for all three of us. It was never too scary for the kids. There was a few moments at the end where it got close, but my 4 year old daughter never cringed (she does at some movies). My 5 year old son was very into the whole movie and I found it enjoyable as well. The movie was also an appropriate length.

This was a very good movie with good morals and lessons for the children. Our six year old was able to follow the story line and understand what was going on. It brought an array of emotions out, which was neat seeing in our child. It is nice to actually get an animated film that the kids can follow.

The characters were very endearing, and very real to life. Toothless the dragon reminded me of my dog, the mannerisms and facial expressions. It was a very sweet story and I didn't feel like I was watching a take off of just another animated flick. It was original and I would watch it again in a heartbeat.

I took my 6 year old to see this and I must say this was a great movie not only for kids but also for adults. Unlike most children films this movie actually had a great plot. BTW I saw the 2d version I'm sure the 3d version is great but in my mind that extra money can go toward popcorn.

When I went to go see this movie I thought that it was going to be another one of those stupid little kid animated movies. It is far from that. This movie wasted no time and packed all the information leaving no hanging threads. Everyone that went to the movie with loved it so all ages are nice. Even a teenage boy got dragged along to see it and he loved it. So it is for all ages. This movie has some romance, action, and heart. I don't get it, how is a movie that is based on dragons only ok? I took my 3 year old son to the movie and he liked it ok, but it didn't blow either of us away. Didn't look like it wow'd the crowd we saw it with either.
Oddly enough the story of the film is really solid, it's just slow. I'm 35 and I was looking for a bit more dragon butt kicking and it just seemed to drag on a bit.
Overall it's ok, it's worth seeing, but it didn't have that wow factor that pushed it into Awesomeland

Amazingly good movie. The kids were riveted and didn't leave their seats even once. Lots of action, no long build up of plots, plenty of activity and details on the screen the whole time...I don't like empty screen space, I want to see the creativity of the animists and background artists. My husband and I have been back to see it again, and plan to see it once more before purchasing the DVD.

Enjoyed this as much as my 5 and 3 year old. Based loosly on a book called "Hiccup the Seasick Viking." This was a good companion piece. Leave it to an animaton studio to deal with themes that other mainstream genres can't deal with...like demonization of one's enemies and conflict over resources. It also dealt well with another running theme in Dreamworks pictures (i.e. Shrek)...individualism and thinking for/being yourself in face of peer and family pressure. The violence is modest and the word "kill" is used a lot. But these are concepts we shouldn't be suprised our kids already know about. Looking forward to the Bluray!
