Visually stunning, rather predictable plot, but CGI, visual effects, music and production design combined to show one of the best depictions of life on an alien (though not radically so) planet that I've ever seen. This movie displays such sumptuous imagery that you really don't even need 3D to have your socks knocked off. If you love sci-fi movies--or think you don't--you gotta see this one.

Most people here talk about the visuals, but Avatar was much more than that. While I admit that the 3D visuals were absolutely amazing, the messages conveyed in it were beautiful.
Respect nature, accept the hard parts of life, trust in oneself, understand ones place in the grand scheme of life, compassion. The movie also showcases some of the problems our current society is invested in.
Great visuals, likable characters, creative aspects, inspirational messages. Highly recommended.

I was a bit skeptical about this movie when I first saw the trailer, but went on the advice of friends. It was rather long at the plot was fairly standard. However, the visuals were spectacular. It was definitely worth my $14 to see it in 3D.

The time flew ... LITERALLY FLEW by !!! I had an 8 and 11 year old with me and they were glued to their seats WITHOUT any candy or soda to bribe them. The animation was perfect and the action sequences came at the exact moment when you needed them. Great movie! I can hardly wait six months for it to come out on dvd to add to my collection!

Avatar was utterly fantastic! The technology was far superior than I imagined it would be and 3 hours flew by! I can't wait to see it again as there was so much going on in this movie I am sure I missed some of it. I highly recommend it. Our group ranged in age from 9 years old to 57 and we all loved it!

The plot is simple by adult standards, but refreshing amid a time in our society where strength of character, courage, honor, and integrity are all but forgotten values. The counter-insurgency approach of Marines displayed was just not believable

I go to movies for entertainment - don't care to dig deep but want to be amazed, wowed, smiling when I leave - this movie gave the that and more - storyline was cohesive, music was perfect, the creatures and beast on planet were believable - didn't think it was too long at all. I would recommend it to anyone. Thought the use of a leading male actor with a handicap was a plus didn't detract nor make it seem trite. Keep em coming James!!!!

How to ruin a groundbreaking movie in one easy lesson: cram into it every hackneyed Hollywood cliche you can think of. Let's see...evil corporations; evil military; new age spiritualism; the myth of the "noble savage"; murder and destruction for profit; disrespect of other cultures, blah, blah, blah... What was a truly mind blowing visual experience was hijacked by a tired and offensive storyline. I was so annoyed by the end of it, I almost left. At any rate, I reluctantly recommend you go see it simply for the effects. Focus on the visuals and try and ignore the BORING and PREACHY propaganda.

The creativity of this film was outstanding. The effects were absolutely breathtaking. I have seen it twice now and the second time was better than the first. This was my first 3D film and I did not get sick or have any problems adjusting. I definitely recommend this movie.

Avatar 3D is an experience in total immersion and unlike any other movie experience I've ever had. From the beginning, the movie creates a reality all its own. I'm not sure just how much 3D contributes to this, but am extremely glad that I saw it in 3D. To an extent, the plot and even characters are recycled from other stories, but the whole environment of the film offsts that which in another movie would be "ho hum". I think this will be known as a breakthrough film in much the same way Star Wars was when it came out so many years ago. I feel this is a not-to-be-missed movie and MUST be seen in a theater for the full effect. Amazing movie!

I am not one much for hyperbole, but my title says it all. I am also not normally affected by this type of thing and I am not sure if this was the 3D or just the intensity of the movie, but I was short of breath for a half hour afterward. The effects are intense and the storyline draws you in. A definite must see. If you can see it in IMAX, even better!

I usually stay away from the movies that proclaim "amazing special effects" because the plot is usually weak. However, I have to say that this movie exceeded every expectation I had. I felt the storyline had been played out before in Dances with Wolves. This just happens to take place in the future. The special effects were terrific, the 3D unneccessary and the length of the movie a little too long. Overall for the effects alone I would recommend this movie.

This movie looked AMAZING. That being said, the movie was a little light on plot, and definitely in parts a little bit preachy. But overall, I definitely was able to overlook Avatar's imperfections in order to experience a nice (if predictable) plot and likable (if typical) characters that created this beautiful movie's driving forces. I wish there had been a little more emphasis on character development (would have liked to want to root for Sully a tad more) and could have used some fresh plot ideas. But like I said, visually the movie will transport you to a place where you don't mind the slightly lackluster story and players and will move you regardless. Go see it! In the theaters! It's worth seeing it on the big screen!

The best Sci-Fi since the first Star Wars movie in 1977. The 3-D was not spectacular, but the story and graphics are totally captivating, it draws you right into the movie with intense emotion. We can't wait for the sequel to Avatar.

I love the graphic in the movie but it was not that much 3D in the movie. But it was a romantic, action movie. This movie is not for kids it did have alot of cussing in the movie.
