UNREAL!!! This takes everything to a new level. The story-line was the only aspect that could be considered "ordinary". Everything else was breath-taking. Pay extra for the 3D or better yet go IMAX. Do not wait till it comes out on DVD. 2hr40min wasn't enough.

Well done, beautiful film. I give the movie 5 Stars! The movie did a good job balancing the politics of ecology and corporate greed. I found it refreshing that the movie showed the relationship between cultural anthropology and imperialism. Worthington played a very realistic paraplegic. The only drawback is the typical, save the the alien by the earth human.

I of course heard all the pub about this movie before seeing it. How the effects were amazing but the storyline wasn't as good. After seeing the movie in 3D, the reviews about the effects don't do them justice. The 3D technology is greatly improving and the effects in this movie were amazing. I left the theatre exhausted from all the exhilaration. The storyline itself was much better than what I read as well. If you see this movie, you need to see it in 3D!

This movie is a must see, and also a must see in 3D, it was filmed in 3D and in my opinion that is the only way to see it. From the opening scene to the last it did not disappoint. Run dont walk to your nearest theater that has Real D 3D and prepare for 2 hours and 40 minutes to fly by! Enjoy!

You know those B-movies people say "it's so bad it's good"? Well, Avatar is the opposite: it's so good it's bad. Thankfully, the 3D version stunning visuals are very enjoyable and the 2.5 hours go by fast. It's a beautifully rendered cartoon, predictably plotted and fast paced. Yet, it's still a cartoon. Cheesy writing, ham-fisted acting, condescending voice over. Why spend all this money and have to come up with something so grandiose and well designed (its great for once to see spaceships that make sense) to then dumb it down so much? It felt like being in a restaurant where they cooked this amazing meal, just to toss it all in a blender so you could suck it up in a straw. It still tasted great. But it could have been so much better.

Honestly, how does somebody top their last effort when that effort is TITANIC? It broke every record in the book and brought people in droves back to the theater at a time when home theaters and DVD players were becoming the rage. Now, with the stakes upped, and home theaters loaded out with HDTVs and blu-ray players, James Cameron delivers a masterpiece that can only be experienced in 3D, at a great theater. He did it, he beat TITANIC. Seeing this movie is like seeing a film in color for the first time. It is a game changer. I don't go to the movies often. Can't afford it. But this is one movie I had to see in the theater, especially in 3D. I was not disappointed. I know the story line was predictable and the characters somewhat stereotyped, but I don't care. The 3-D is technically brilliant, especially with the absence of "throw it in your face" effects. It is so good that 15 minutes into the movie you stop noticing it and just sink into the space of the image.
The audience actually cheered at one point and stood up and applauded at the end.
Avatar is probably too intense for children but when the "buzz" gets going on Avatar they will beg to see it. Parents! Go with the kids to hold their hand.
It has three very strong female characters and two well played villains. The hero is laconic, his avatar is a warrior.
Is this all a metaphor for our tragic misadventures in the middle east?

The film plot is a blend of Dances With Wolves, Star Wars and Lord of the Rings, with some amusing cross references--e.g., the machine that the evil Marine uses at the end is the one Sigourney Weaver used against the Mother alien at the end of Aliens. I enjoy such self referential ironies. The special effects (I did see it in 3-D) were truly astonishing and often aesthetically beautiful. From that point of view, this film will be a hard act to follow.

Just saw Avatar 3-D last night. It was excellent. Been waiting for another James Cameron sci-fi epic and boy did he hit the nail on the head with this one. It was a great movie going experience and I think audiences of all ages could appreciate this story. Though the script and somewhat predictable story (though not bad) were a little weak at times, Cameron's fantastic fictional world and it's characters, and the amazing action scenes that he is known for made up for it.

1. Must see in 3D only. 2. Do NOT go for the story line, which is predictable, simplistic, and has the unavoidably preachy morality play comparables to modern society (war for oil; treatment of First Nation indigenous peoples; etc.) 3. DO go for the 3D effects, the color, the imaginiation, the total visual experience; it is the best I've ever seen. 4. I've heard that people susceptible to motion sickness should not see this ... not true. I suffer from this and had no such problem. I give it 4 of 5 stars.

I appreciated the 3D and the amazing cinematography. The details of each plant, creature were impressive. I did NOT appreciate the political statements. As a mother of a military son, I did not like how our military was portrayed.
Story line was simplistic, predictable and done before. I felt like I watched an amalgam of Pocahontas and V.
I find it inappropriate that they are marketing TOYS for this movie. It is NOT appropriate for children that would be playing with the toys.
