The film plot is a blend of Dances With Wolves, Star Wars and Lord of the Rings, with some amusing cross references--e.g., the machine that the evil Marine uses at the end is the one Sigourney Weaver used against the Mother alien at the end of Aliens. I enjoy such self referential ironies. The special effects (I did see it in 3-D) were truly astonishing and often aesthetically beautiful. From that point of view, this film will be a hard act to follow.
Yes, I recommend this movie.
