This is a very good movie! But it's not the greatest movie or direction by a long shot. I believe it takes star trek to a whole new dimension and added 3-D very well I think that the huge success here in the states was in part due to the cold weather around the country.

Sorry...this movie is tooooo long. What it reminded me of is the white man taking over the American Indian lands. This time the Indians won. I heard that this could be up for an Oscar. Certainly for the scenic stuff, but for acting...please. It is so easy to mesmerize the crowds with flash and dazzle.

The 3D technology and the story are excellent. Unfortunately, there are some dialogue flaws, acting deficiencies and inconsistencies which detract from what could have been a much better film.
Unobtainium, come on! Couldn't someone have found a better name? And this was not the only dialogue flaw, but it is the most obvious.
The overall acting performances were so-so at best, not a stellar performance in the cast. While the story sets up front the conditions of the planet, a couple of the scenes seem to ignore the 20 second and four minute rules established early on.
Go see the movie for the effects and overall story, but do not expect to see a great film.

This movie was not only exciting, but very beautiful as well! My 7 year old enjoyed it just as much as I did. I had to explain a little bit to him in the very beginning, but otherwise he understood what was going on the whole time. The language was a little gratuitous at times, but not over the top. Totally recommended for everyone and anyone! Did not even notice that it was just under 3 hours!

I never go to movies twice....its a waste of time. However, I have seen Avatar3D three times. Twice with grandchildren and once with my wife. It so much fun talking to them about the effects, story and what it meant to them. Its an unbelievable work of art and movie making.

I would not call this the best movie ever, but it's pretty close. You must see this in 3D, and visually stunning, story is easy enough to grasp on and moves along quite well given the length of the movie. I've been involved indirectly with 3D movies and products for years through my late-husband's holography business...I was always a fan of the medium...but this film took special effects and 3D to a whole new level for me! The storyline stands on its own...the visual effects are just an added bonus! I want to go back and see the IMAX version now that I don't have to focus on the storyline. Two hours & forty minutes of eye candy!!! Great way to start off the new year!

The 3D effect makes the movie. As one who attended 3D movies in the 60's I can attest as to how far the technology has advanced. Granted you need to be into the sci-fi or tech genre but it's hard not to appreciate the work that went into this movie.

I took my son to see this movie in 3D. When it was finished we were tempted to stay and watch it again at the next showing. The story was classic, the effects were awesome, and the detail was great. This movie did not feel like 2 hrs & 40 mins long. Some people with small bladders should probably hit the restroom before the movie starts but it was definately not too long.

The special effects alone are worth the price of a ticket. The 3D is exceptional and the scenery is sharp and beautiful. I thought the story was too long and could have been shortened up without taking anything away from the movie. The story line was a little thin anyway.

This movie was a glimpse into the future of cinema. I highly recommend you see it in 3-D format, to fully appreciate the film's immersiveness.
There were some weak points. The character development is a bit thin, some of the writing is outrightly silly (Unobtainium??? The Flux Vortex?? The Tree of Souls?), and the movie's message is nearly beaten into the audience by a horde of giant blue aliens. But if the movie is to earn an Oscar, it is not for dramatic depth. It is worthy as a piece of art simply because it will make you wonder what the movie-going experience will be like in 20 years.

The special effects were breathtaking and the story, while well worn, was well executed. Some of the costuming was a little suggestive for young children but overall a fun movie that did not require much thought to follow.

Great story line and overall execution. The 3D and most of the special effects were very good, There were some scenes and characters/creatures that seemed a bit contrived and artificial and lacked a sense of reality. This was probably the case for many of the scenes, but because of the fast action, most of these flaws were easily overlooked. The movie could have been shortened some, but I am not sure what I would have cut.

It's my first 3D movie and I thought that it was really cool. It made you feel like you were right there in the action. I would recommend it to my friends and family.

This movie moved me. The romance was strong enough as to make the animation seem real. The action was wonderfully intense. A rare mix of animation and believable story line. I was completely swept away for almost 3 hours! A must see in 3D!
